How can a team represent both the North Shore and Surrey?
Not exactly beside each other....I could understand Surrey/Delta....or even Netherlands and Holland....

I have aready explained the fcuking Dutch thing.

A person can represent both Holland and the Netherlands the same way someone can represent BC and Canada.

How a player may represent both the North Shore and Surrey at the same time is a question for NextToGod or Regs, not me.

Go on, try it.

The answer is simple really. We're just that good.

Who said that?

I think you were far better when you guys came just from the North Shore, the glory days. How does that song go again, "we are good old boys, we come from the North Shore/Slurrey errrrr....."

Anyone know the word opposite of superlative? I'm thinking it's HOS, but I just need to confirm.

HOS downfall....

It started in the summer of '01.

It seemed just like yesterday, HOS was the poster boy for the Friuli....clean cut, blue collar...

I've got the word knvb,

The performance was like a Bike attempt by knvb:

Painfull to watch, funny as hell, and very uneffective.

Funny thing is, I was in having a joke with Azzi on Friday (we lost our cards and he needed new pictures), it was a superlative conversation, and I am sure he is going to have a go at me this week.

By the way, you better keep your head up, my stroller is coming for you.

WEEK #12 -- 2003-11-26

This past weekend did not solve anything in the Group 'A' table of the Premier Division as all seven teams are still jockeying for positions. In fact, all seven teams could still will the championship, qualify for the Province Cup, or get relegated! Talk about parity!! The highlight game of the week took place Friday evening at Newton Athletic Park where Pegasus FC hosted ICSF Inter. On paper, these are the two top teams in the league--or at least in Group 'A'. The game, which ended in a 2-2 tie, lived up to its expectations with both teams having numerous chances to score. Pegasus needed a victory to pull away from all the rest of the teams at the top of the standings, while Inter was in desperate search of a result to stay away from the dreaded relegation zone. Perhaps it was this desperate need that motivated the visiting team to take the game to Pegasus right from the start. In fact, young Tino Cucca and veteran Sal Cuccione gave Inter a very early 2-0 lead, a lead that could have been even more emphatic had it not been for a couple of key saves by goalkeeper Steve London--on shots by Cucca and Brian Van Schagen. Before the end of the first half, Pegasus stormed back and got a goal from veteran--and former Whitecap--Mike Dodd. London once again rose to the occasion early in the second half when he denied Tom Adamson who had raced in all alone on a clear-cut breakaway. Midway through the second half, Pegasus got the equalizer, once again from the talented foot of Mike Dodd. Soon thereafter, another Whitecap, Paul Dailly saw his brilliant free kick saved by Inter's fine young goalkeeper Dennis Kindel. Late in the game, once again London came up big with a brilliant save on a wicked drive by Van Schagen. All in all, a very exciting game which ICSF probably deserved to win. The tie leaves Pegasus alone in first place, while Inter is now only 3 points ahead of last place Westside Rino.

Also on Friday evening, at Port Moody Town Centre, the Metro-Ford Wolves faced the visiting Westside Rino in yet another extremely important match. The game did not produce the excitement that was anticipated, probably due to the fact that Metro-Ford was forced to defend for most of the match due to the early expulsion of midfielder Jamie Fletcher. The Wolves took a very early lead on a phenomenal goal by Ryugo Fusa who controlled a great cross from Whitecap Andrew Veer and chipped the ball over the outstretched arms of veteran goalkeeper Mike Wicken. Minutes later, Fletcher was sent off for a late tackle and the game deteriorated into a monotonous affair. Westside carried the vast majority of the play but was unable to create any meaningful scoring chances. On the other hand, Metro-Ford seemed content to defend the slim lead and did so very effectively. Defensively, young Brook Scott and veteran Elliott Smith were pillars of strength for the Wolves. The final 1-0 result in favour of Metro-Ford leaves Rino's team in last place in Group 'A', an unprecedented occurrence to say the least! The Wolves, on the other hand, are now 2 points behind league-leading Pegasus FC.

The other Group 'A' match was also a very important affair as both teams, Indo FC and SportsTown Firemen are both in the middle of the pack in the standings. SportsTown took the early lead on a goal by Peter Berholz, survived some Indo FC pressure late in the first half but managed to go to the dressing room with a 1-0 lead. The second half belonged entirely to the Firemen as they dominated proceedings from start to finish. Whitecap Jeff Skinner scored twice for SportsTown, while Chris Jarvie added a goal of his own to the winning cause. Karm Lidder, one the top goalscorers in the VMSL, tallied the only Indo FC marker. All in all, the final 4-1 score in favour of SportsTown appears to be a fair result. Indo FC is now in penultimate place in the standings, only 2 points ahead of Westside, while SportsTown climbed to within 4 points of league-leading Pegasus FC. It should be noted that the Firemen have a game in hand and, theoretically, could climb to within one point of Pegasus.

In Group 'B' action, Sporting Club continued to impress by clobbering a lethargic Khalsa SC by a 6-0 score--by far the most one-sided result in the Premier Division this season. As the score would indicate, Sporting dictated the pace of the game from start to finish and punished the lacklustre Khalsa at every opportunity. Veteran Carlos Batista and newly-signed youngster Steve Frazao each scored twice for the winners, while Mike Gomes and Paulo Almeida added singletons. It should be noted that Almeida's goal puts him in a tie for first place with Columbus' Alex Elliott for the GOLDEN BOOT AWARD with 7 goals each. Defensively, Mark Gomes was outstanding, shutting down the Khalsa strikers with remarkable composure. The result leaves Sporting Club in first place, 4 points ahead of the idle Surrey United. However, the Surrey team could easily climb back into the race since it has two games in hand.

Also in Group 'B', the two bottom feeders, Clan Alumni and Columbus FC settled for a scoreless tie in a game played on Sunday at Riverway Park. Clan Alumni dominated the first half and, had it not been for the outstanding goalkeeping of veteran Luca Dalla Pace, could easily have taken an insurmountable lead. Columbus made some key substitutions at half time and, as a result, took over the reins of the game in the second half. Therefore, the final 0-0 score was probably a fair result. Clan Alumni is therefore still in last place of the Group 'B' table, 6 points behind Columbus but with a game in hand. These two teams must play each other again later in the season in a match that could easily turn into a "relegation-avoidance" battle. The other Group 'B' game saw the revitalized Burnaby Canadians edge the struggling Trollers FC 1-0 on a goal by Ryan McNab. The all-important cross-over match between Surrey United and the Sapperton Rovers was postponed due to the frozen conditions at Cloverdale Athletic Park. Both teams are in the thick of first place races in their respective groups.

TEAMS OF THE WEEK: SPORTING CLUB and SPORTSTOWN FIREMEN for their impressive, and emphatic victories over Khalsa SC and Indo FC respectively. Sporting's victory, by a 6-0 margin, places the Portuguese team in first place in Group 'B', while SportsTown's 4-1 defeat of Indo FC confirms the fact that the Firemen are true contenders for the Group 'A' title.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: STEVE LONDON of Pegasus FC for his magnificent goalkeeping performance in the match against ICSF Inter. London's phenomenal saves kept his team in the game for the entire first half and allowed Pegasus to 'steal' a 2-2 tie. For his efforts, London wins a prize of a pizza for two, compliments of PAZZO TRATTORIA AND LOUNGE. The prize is available anytime, except for Mondays, up to 2003-12-17. The pizza must be consumed on the premises

Player of the week should have been KNVB for his highly successful act in convincing the ref to postpone the Premier and the CAT games vs Sapperton last Saturday.

The irony was that the match could not be called until the noon kick off time as there was a hotly contested match being played on the unplayable grounds. :p

It's OK Zenga, I scored 4 goals in one game on a keeper who had an outstanding performance and got a shut out in week 13 the week he didn't even hand out the fcuking award.

You're not alone. ;)

Nothing against London and his great performance vs. Inter (I am still in the keepers union), but didn't Dave Morris score 8 goals in an 8-nil drubbing over the Serbs. Not sure if this is a regular happening in Div. 1, but should he not at least get a mention and one slice of pizza pie.

WEEK #13 -- 2003-12-02

Once again the unpredictability of team performances in Group 'A' of the Premier Division came to the fore this past weekend as Westside Rino climbed out of last place with a resounding 3-0 victory over first place Pegasus FC. The match, played Friday evening at Newton Athletic Park, saw Westside take control of the situation from the opening whistle with youngsters John Chou and Steve Deblasio, as well as veteran Colin Pettingale, leading the way with superb performances. Near the end of the first half, Westside took the lead when another youngster, Nenad Stojanovic, received a fine pass from Deblasio at the edge of the penalty area and unleashed a first-time blast to the top corner of the net. Deblasio himself capped off a fine individual performance by scoring the insurance marker half way through the second half when he raced in all alone before beating Pegasus' fine goalkeeper Steve London with a cleverly placed shot. Late in the game, Deblasio was once again involved as he set up yet another youngster, Alex Kosanin, for the final goal of the game. Despite the loss, Pegasus remains in first place, albeit by a very slim margin in the incredibly tight Group 'A' standings, where only 5 points separate the first place team from the last place team!

In the cross-over match, ICSF Inter demolished the struggling Khalsa Sporting Club by a decisive 6-2 score in a match played on Sunday at Adanac Park. ICSF took a 3-0 halftime lead and never looked back as Khalsa's defense had a great deal of difficulty containing Inter's quick and energetic young forwards. Tino Cucca, in particular, was a going concern throughout the match with brilliant penetrating runs that the Khalsa defenders seemed unable to control. Cucca and Brian Van Schagen each scored twice for Inter, while Whitecap Steve Kindel and Joe Scigliano added singletons to the winning cause. Matt Mori replied for Khalsa with two rather late goals. The victory places ICSF in second place in the Group 'A' table, only one point behind league-leading Pegasus. Khalsa SC, on the other hand, now seem to be out of contention for the Group 'B' title, 7 points behind Sporting Club.

Sporting Club remained solidly in first place in the Group 'B' standings despite a 1-1 draw with the ever-improving Burnaby Canadians. The game, played on Sunday at Hastings Bowl in Vancouver, was a hard-fought affair between two teams that had not lost a game for the last few weeks. Burnaby took the early lead when recently-signed Maks Kisielewski scored his first goal in a Canadians uniform with a well-placed shot that eluded Whitecaps' goalkeeper Alex Marques. Before the halftime whistle, yet another youngster--Steve Frazao--restored parity for the Portuguese team. All in all, the 1-1 final score seemed to be a fair one since neither team deserved to lose. Sporting now has a 5-point lead over the once-again idle Surrey United. Surrey, it should be noted, has 3 games on hand. The Canadians, on the other hand, are in second place, 4 points behind Sporting Club.

Also in Group 'B' action, Trollers FC defeated the last place Clan Alumni 3-1 in a game played on Sunday at Hillcrest Park in Vancouver. The score does not tell the entire story as the Clan fought hard--particularly in the second half--and deserved a better fate. Rick Marando scored twice for the West Vancouver team, while Steve Lake added the insurance marker. Craig Richards scored a late consolation goal for the last place Alumni. Trollers' goalkeeper Marco Durante was outstanding, perhaps the main reason for the Trollers' victory. The loss leaves Clan Alumni in a very precarious last position, 6 points points behind penultimate Columbus FC.

The other 3 matches scheduled for this past weekend (Surrey United vs Columbus FC; Sapperton Rovers vs Indo FC; and SportsTown vs Metro-Ford) were postponed due to field closures.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: WESTSIDE RINO for its brilliant, if unexpected performance in its 3-0 victory over league-leading Pegasus FC. An excellent mix of youth (Steve Deblasio, John Chou, Alex Kosanin, Sean Sasges, Nenad Stojanovic) and experience (Boban Aleksic, Colin Pettingale, and Alex Percy) seemed to be the answer to Westside's problems.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: STEVE DEBLASIO of Westside Rino for his outstanding performance in his team's 3-0 victory over Pegasus FC. Deblasio scored a brilliant goal and set up two others--by Nenad Stojanovic and Alex Kosanin. For his efforts, Deblasio wins a prize of a pizza for two, compliments of PAZZO TRATTORIA AND LOUNGE. The prize is available anytime, except for Mondays, up to 2003-12-31. The pizza must be consumed on the premises.

Cheers
