Great course

Did a trip a couple years back that included, Fairwinds (not bad), Morningstar, which probably would have been better if it was pouring rain with 30km/hr winds, Crowne Isle., and Storey Creek. I think Storey had to be the second best next to Crown Isle. All courses worth playing.
Storey was pretty tight and tree lined with not much room to spray.

Has anyone played the fairyly new Point Roberts golf course lately?
I played it a while back and was brand new. Had a portable for a clubhouse as they were still building the log cabin clubhouse. Was a gorgeous course with tough, hard as rock greens.

Point Bob, is now playing in the proper order with an actual clubhouse. Greens are a little softer now that they have been able to punch but they are still hard. The only problem is the damn brush has grown in a little more making anything a little bit into the trees a no finder. It's a tough trek trying to find how to get to the clubhouse even someone who lived in Tsawwassen all his life and has relatives on the Point. The price is really reasonable for twilight during the week and even regular feees are not too bad. I love the course.

I played Falls and Sandpiper last weekend on a deal where for 189.00 per person you get 2 nights in hotel and chilliwack and green fees. Hotel was pretty nice and really enjoyed the courses. I would play the Falls again even thought it's expensive but am not sure if Sandpiper is worth the full Price. The back nine is gorgeaus and if the whole thing was like it it would be a definte return visit but as it is I will go back one more time for their deal before summer is out.

Note for those who play the Falls. If you slice bring lots of balls. I've got a bad wrist and I've got a not so little slice in my game right now. It's a killer here as most of the holes are OB right as your ona mountain. I lost 16 balls and shot a 99. Thankfully the bad wrist has dramaticlly improved my short game as I now basically never three put and my chipping and wedge play is great as it doesn't bother wrist. I'm looking forward to my company golf tourney tommorrow as I expect my short game will win my group the tourney. :wa: :bronco: :knvb:

Anyone been to the Dunes inthe Loops this year. Hoping to play Friday of Next long weekend before the Soccer tourney?

Storey Creek is amongst the trees and wildlife and a nice track. Plenty of deer. Shitty little clubhouse that pales in comparison to Crown Isle.
Point Roberts is a cracker.
Too bad the Revelstoke trip is a one day trip. I usually do an annual trip through there and down to the Kootenays for some rocky mountain golf.
Courses to check if you're ever in that neck of the woods: (in order of preference)

St. Eugene's Mission - has everything including a casino!
Eagle Ranch - immaculately maintained.
Trickle Creek - beautiful.
Greywolf - stunning views - Cliffhanger!
Bootleg Gap - newer course that needs to grow but a great layout
Copper Ranch - new course that i haven't played but heard great things.
Radium - some very scenic holes.

Smallsy,

You do know that you could bake a cake at this time of year? I understand it's a lot cheaper this time of year but that some really find it unbearable to play in.

Personally, I love playing golf in the heat. Lots and lots of beer. After the round a dip in the pool and more and more beer.

I'm excited as I have been given the OK to start swinging a club again.

Should be a ton of fun Smallsy.

Arizona Heat

I played in Tucson last Friday and it isn't to bad (85 degrees at 7:00am) if you get the early start. Afternoon tee times will kill you though!!

I played the Troons at the La Paloma Resort and would recommend it to anyone who makes it to Tucson. It is a 27 hole, Jack - I love my freaken bunkers - Nicklaus course. The track was emaculate but the greens went from being soft to concrete in the 4 hours.

yes, it will be a challenge to beat the heat down in Tuscon, but i think we're up for it. green fees this time of year are dirt cheap which is the reason we're doing it.
will post a full report upon my return.

Actually going there to play in a slo-pitch tournament so we only have 1 day open so we thougth we'd squeeze in a round of golf.

I've heard St. Eugene and Trickle were stunning courses as well.

Played Northlands the other day out in North Van, I must say a great course for the 53.50 green fee. Course was in great shape some of the fastest greens I have played on.

However I would not recommend to walk the course splurge(sp?) the extra 15 dollars each and get a cart much needed espically on a hot day.

Has to be the most memorable course so far of my career as a golfer.

Cheers

I had the pleasure of playing Bear Mountain on Vancouver Island this past weekend, and without a doubt, it was the most beautiful golf course I have ever played. The views are phenomenal, the ads on tv don't really do the real thing justice. It is framed by mature forest all around and carved from solid rock in places. For a brand new course, the greens were surprisingly receptive, although the fairways were a little hard in places.

I was an island resident for the weekend ;) so it was $95 instead of $120 (not that I paid anyway:D ). The carts are mandatory and are GPS equiped which is a nice touch, nothing like ordering my hotdog from the 8th fairway. All in all, it was a great course, and not even it being my first round back with my gimp ass ankle could dampen it.

I played Point Roberts last week and was humbled by it once again. Not that I needed a lot of humbling. I shot a 95 thanks to some dodgy putting. It is a very difficult course, which leaves little room for error. I scored a 106 the week before and actually putted okay. Shoc-king. $35 Canadian is a great price when you tee off before 7:30 or after 4:00. The fairways are slush and there a lot of fcuking bunkers. Very difficult to say the least. I found 8 golf balls but refused to look anymore once I saw a cnuting snake. There is a massive eagle's nest right by the second hole. Overall, a great layout but still not as nice as my all-time favorite course, Shuksan. There is nothing bad about that course.

hackers

I fogort to mention that I played golf with a few other TTP hackers and one of them got a hole in one. Gomesy16 then went on to pretend like the hole in one was nothing and he had done it before:rolleyes:. We played Mylora the sidaway course and I think I played the last few holes more excited then him. Then to top it off I thought I would be a good guy and give them a stroke a hole for skins because they told me what they shoot and I thought that would be fair. For some reason they had to think about that, I even gave them a stroke on all the par 3.

Had to forkout a whoping $9, damn it.

To top the evening off even more the bastard didn't even buy the people he was playing with a round of drinks, nevermind all those in the clubhouse.

Point Roberts

Captain,
Are the greens still as hard as rock? Last time i played it was just after it opened and they had a portable for a clubhouse. Course was in great shape but the greens were as hard as rock. Couldn't keep anything on the greens.

Played Revelstoke last week (87), 2 over on back 9 coming into #16, finished 8 over.

Played The Quail, (in running shoes) forgot my golf shoes, shot an 88. 2 eights and a nine in there. Should have payed the $2 for the course guide. Didn't know where the hell i was hitting to half the time.
Gorgeous course with blind tee shots and some target golf. Only dissapointing thing was the $115 green fees.
Marshall told us that they were pumping a million gallons of water a night just to keep the course green.

Almost played The Bear as well but didn't think the wife would have been happy if I left her to pack up by herself to come home yesterday.

They were still pretty hard but certainly not as hard as last year. However, I was short of the greens most of the time, so it was hard to judge. :(

Haven't played Point BOB yet this year but would have to agree with everyone's assessment of it from the few times I have made it out, QUALITY!

Captain, played Shuxsan (sp) last week for the first time and was quite impressed. Cheap day out, $45.00 CAN + $12.00 for half the cart (all of this being mid week) and the place was empty. Some target golf, which I like but not overly challenging but definetely difficult to score well if you are not straight:mad:

Cheers,

John (91)

What I've heard

I have heard there are some great deals across the border for canadians at places like:
Avalon
3 - 9's to choose from (Carts include GPS)
Daily Green Fees
Monday — Thursday
9 holes $20.00
18 holes $35.00
All Day $35.00

Canadian Money at par on Wednesdays

And i believe Homestead has a similar deal as well.

Handicap (Index) Calcualtors

Anyone who is interested in finding out what their handicap is can sign up for either of these 2 Handicap Calculator websites.

You can plug in your scores hole by hole and it will keep track of your handicap for you.

I have used BCGolf.com Handicap Calculator for the last little while. Very easy to use as it already has a list of all the courses in B.C. there, you just pick it from the list and it fills in the slope and rating for you.

In the past I have used Playerlink Handicap Calculator . This one you have to enter in the course name and slope/ratings yourself, but it puts it into an easy drop down list so you only have to do it once.

You're a member there?

I used to be Junior there years ago.

What kind of shape is the course in with all this hot weather?

i am a member at Pitt....have been since 2000. i was actually a junior member way back in the day 84'-87' when i grew up out in the ridge (that's a little more than three years ago). the course has grown up alot since then with the new clubhouse and some excellent drainage work.
i haven't played much lately due to recent road trip in arizona (which was fantastic) and work commitments.
last time i was out the course was in great shape. i'm sure it is struggling with the drought like conditions, but smaller greens are fairly easy to maintain.
i'm playing tomorrow so i'll get a first hand look.
