*Arizona 14, Detroit 10
The Cardinals and Lions, weak on both sides of the ball, will fight for little more than pride. In Tempe in 2001, Jake Plummer and Charlie Batch combined for seven passing TD’s in a 45-38 Arizona win.

*Carolina 21, Cincinnati 9
Against the Panthers’ stingy defense, the listless Bengals may not manage more than a field goal or two -- much like their only previous meeting, three years ago, when Carolina clobbered Cincy 27-3.

Denver 26, *N.Y. Jets 21
It’s almost do-or-die for the Jets, but they’ll have to hope for some big breaks against the Broncos, because they certainly can’t stop them. Denver beat N.Y. in ’00, the last time they faced off, 30-23.

*Green Bay 35, Minnesota 17
Brett Favre’s record as a starter in the Metrodome fell to 2-9 as the Vikings intercepted him three times three weeks ago on the way to a 31-21 upset. Minnesota will run well again, but a sweep? No way.

*Jacksonville 20, Cleveland 19
A near toss-up, but the Jaguars will win with their ground game, the Browns’ defensive weakness. In their AFC Central rivalry, Jacksonville won seven of eight, finally losing to Cleveland last season.

*New England 25, Buffalo 19
Tom Brady threw four TD passes in the Patriots’ 38-7 Week Nine spanking of the Bills, Buffalo’s worst home loss since ’83. The Bills’ pass defense is better than that, but N.E. will sweep them again.

New Orleans 19, *Baltimore 16
If the Saints were run-only (like the offensively challenged Ravens), Baltimore’s defense could handle them, but N.O. throws as well as its runs. The Ravens are 2-0 in the series, with ’96 and ’99 wins.

N.Y. Giants 15, *Washington 13
We said there’d be field goals last month: the Giants’ Matt Bryant kicked four, and N.Y. blocked one to get past the Redskins 19-17. The Giants will sweep Washington for the first time in seven years.

Oakland 27, *San Diego 21
LaDainian Tomlinson’s OT TD led the Chargers over the Raiders seven weeks ago, 27-21. S.D. also gave up 353 passing yards, and that’s what’ll keep them from sweeping Oakland for the first time since ’92.

Philadelphia 24, *Seattle 14
They have solid pass defense, but the Seahawks don’t have much else, while the Eagles have everything else. Donovan McNabb threw for two TD’s and ran for another as Philly shut Seattle down in ’01, 27-3.

*Pittsburgh 32, Houston 16
With pass defense that’s anything but solid, the Steelers haven’t exactly been a sure thing, but if they can’t make short work of the weakest passing game in the league, they’ll raise legitimate doubts.

St. Louis 21, *Kansas City 20
Here’s our throw-a-dart-blindfolded pick of the week: The Rams don’t run well, the Chiefs don’t throw well, K.C. has no pass defense but it’s playing at home . . . The Chiefs won last, two years ago.

San Francisco 28, *Dallas 17
The Cowboys pose no offensive threat to the 49ers, so this one’s all about how well Dallas defends against S.F.’s ground game. The Cowboys were 27-21 upset winners over the 49ers at home last season.

*Tampa Bay 25, Atlanta 14
Do the Falcons pose any offensive threat to the Buccaneers? Maybe if they run. But that’s what T.B. will be looking for. The Bucs knocked Michael Vick out of their 20-6 win over Atlanta in Week Five.

*Tennessee 21, Indianapolis 19
Despite scraping together only 198 total yards, the Titans made the most of Colts turnovers and beat them 23-15 in November. That was an upset, and this will be too, given Indy’s superior air attack.

Monday, December 9, 2002

*Miami 34, Chicago 16
Another matchup that sounded good in pre-season but probably won’t look much like these teams’ last showdown, a thrilling 36-33 Bears win in OT in ’97. Miami should dominate with and without the ball.

Well, Parkputz, you must be getting VERY frustrated. That would be FIVE wins in a row for the Captain and his source........:)

I am currently at 9 - 5 and you're sitting at a rather pathetic 5 - 9 . There are only two games left on this week's schedule, so it is a slam dunk for the Captain..........

Captain Shamrock It's your turn to pick first

Let's look at this quote for a second, First off the winner of the previous week always picks first. Second and most important, When did you start making picks there PUTZ!! It should be boring for you because you probably don't even know who is playing!!:D All you do is highlight, copy and then paste when you get on TTP!!

Here we go. BTW, I am currently up on you by 6 weeks to 3. Before I won the last five weeks, you had won 3 / 4, so I am going to be ahead at the end of this week either way.

Sunday, December 15, 2002

*Atlanta 29 Seattle 14

The Falcons should be able to run at will on the Seahawks' NFL-worst run defense, and Seattle continues to struggle on offense. The 'Hawks won their fifth of seven games in this series in 2000, 30-10.

Baltimore 17 *Houston 15

This is a toss-up whose most noteworthy stats are defensive: the Texans actually rank higher overall than the Ravens and are near the top of the league against the pass. These two cities last met in '96.

*Denver 32 Kansas City 27

In October the Broncos came from two TD's behind in the fourth quarter to beat the Chiefs 37-34 in OT. Denver will exploit K.C.'s weak pass defense and get its first sweep of the Chiefs in four years.

Indianapolis 24 *Cleveland 18

The same applies here: the Browns' secondary will have to play way better than usual to keep the Colts close, because Cleveland's offense won't be much help. Indy was a 29-28 winner over the Browns in '99.

Jacksonville 26 *Cincinnati 16

A former divisional rival will be missed: the Jaguars have won seven of their last eight against the Bengals -- 30-13 and 14-10 last year. This won't be pretty, with Jacksonville staying on the ground.

*Miami 22 Oakland 21

A potential game of the week, which may turn on the Dolphins' defense, which won't be threatened by the Raiders' running game and so can focus on their potent passing. Miami got by Oakland 18-15 in '01.

*New Orleans 27 Minnesota 19

The Saints will hurt the Vikings through the air, though Minnesota can hurt N.O. just as badly on the ground. The Saints ended a four-game series losing streak with a 28-15 win over the Vikes last season.

*N.Y. Giants 20 Dallas 14

Kerry Collins threw three TD passes to lead the Giants past the Cowboys in a less-than-thrilling Week Five contest, 21-17. Dallas's defense isn't half bad, but N.Y. will win again if it keeps on throwing.

N.Y. Jets 17 *Chicago 16

You'd never guess it from their respective records, but the Jets are almost as unproductive on both sides of the ball as the Bears, so this game could easily go either way. N.Y. won last, two years ago.

*Philadelphia 32 Washington 10

While Donovan McNabb was throwing for two TD's and running for another, the Eagles' defense allowed the Redskins across midfield only once in a 37-7 rout 13 weeks ago. Philly last swept Washington in '95.

*Pittsburgh 16 Carolina 13

Closer than it looks? Solid on the ground and excellent through the air, the Steelers face a Panthers defense that's solid against the run and excellent against the pass. Their series is even at 1-1.

*St. Louis 25 Arizona 9

Marshall Faulk rambled for 178 yards and had 58 receiving yards as the Rams dispatched the Cardinals last month, 27-14. At home against Arizona's inept defense, St. Louis should win even more easily.

San Diego 24 *Buffalo 21

Another toss-up, with the Bills able to shred the Chargers through the air and S.D. able to dominate Buffalo on the ground. The Chargers won their fourth out of the last five in the series in '01, 27-24.

*San Francisco 28 Green Bay 27

The Packers have won eight of their last nine against the 49ers -- 25-15 in a wild-card playoff last year -- so this is our upset of the week. S.F. has to do it with the run; G.B. shuts down the pass.

Tampa Bay 29 *Detroit 7

Losers of four of the last five in this rivalry, the Lions weren't sad to see the Buccaneers head south. T.B. is capable of shutting Detroit out, but the Bucs better score often against the Lions' D, too.

Monday, December 16, 2002

*Tennessee 25 New England 21

The Titans will rediscover pass defense and win. The Patriots, 27-16 winners the last time they battled Tennessee, in '98, are among the league's worst performers on Monday night, with a record of 9-18.

I have gone with a few upsets this week, so you have an opportunity this week, Parkputz. Do you know what network Jimmy "The Greek" worked for?
