Cainy

Cmon on guys give him a break,

Since his team got knocked out of the Pak cup he has to post somewhere,

the question is Will Cainy return to the field or will he take like his brother and start to wear the strips??

Or will he just continue being small and annoying?

good luck in Provincials!!

SU 2 vs PA 2

It was a pretty uneventful game ...until the team handshake. PA went up twice and SU came back...once again we were ripe for the taking although we did outchance (and outmiss) our opposition with only 11 men in the 2nd half (does that mean we actually played better when ballbaby left to go coach??) nahhhh

Pretty much everyone agrees that the incident was above and beyond any of the regular machismo that happens on and around the pitch...it was downright nutty.

BullyB...I must take issue with your "I'm not taking sides" banter...sounds like it to me. The hit on James was late and out of place but I've seen a lot of that this year from many players on many teams (this does not excuse any vicious/stupid tackles by SU players) Where do you draw the line between on field stuff and premeditated sucker punches in the handshake?? There has to be some context within the game or it is just plain assault in my opinion.

Rabbit Ears: I know you were as interested as the next guy but did you have to stick your ears/nose that far into the matter?? It honestly was a bit much from our vantage point...did you submit your witness list?? Maybe you're too jacked up from watching all those Matlock reruns.

5bts: you spoke well for your team. It's time to move on.

Cainy can play on my team anytime. As small as he is, he makes up for in strength and determination. Pretty much one of the tougest guys on the pitch. It's just that the cold turns him this funny colour.

Sillyrabbit, you got your team sorted out? Disgraceful turn of events and NO ONE should defend his actions, if you get my drift! So be careful what you say(if you decide to say anything) OR expect the appropriate responses.

There are all types in this world we share.

Speaking of that team handshake. I am nearly 37 years old. I'm kinda getting tired of cheering "hip hip hooray" three times after a game. Am I the only one who feels this way? I felt goofy doing it when I was eight for crying out loud. Not to mention, you finish chanting hip hip hooray, proceed down the line to shake hands, and then take a sucker punch to the head. That's a stark contrast to the intent of hip hip hooray.

Let's just shake hands like gentlemen, and then if you are going to take a cheap-shot sucker punch, at least you don't have to dwell on the fact that ".....and I even said hip hip hooray three times, and he still punched me!"

Hand shakes only

Ballbaby:

Since coaching men's soccer after juvenile, I eliminated the three cheers and simply have my team shake hands.

I don't even like three cheers for kids but that is different than adult sports.

At times new players ask me why we don't cheer and I simply tell them that we don't do it and that is that.

I know we must be in the minority as most teams do it.

reccos,

I am sorry to say that you may have prevaricated in saying that you have always advised your men's teams to refrain from the hiphip hooray chants. I have just been contacted via e-mail from a very dignified well respected LURKER on these forums, who also happens to be an ex-player of yours, that he was never advised to refrain fron the chant. He in fact feels he was encouraged by you to lead the chants due to his experience in cheering.

What do you have to say about that? Also, I played for you as well, and I remember the three cheers. At least I never lead such a sorry display of silly exuberance.

I hope this doesn't cause an unnecessary controversy on TTP.

As for this lurker, I cannot divulge who he is. I want to but I can't. Perhaps one day he will come forward and grace us with his quillmanship.

Where Does one Start?

PA - 2
SU - 2

Aves nailed it. Quite a boring game and SU provided to be a handfull even with only 11 men at the end. Not much to talk about other than the now infamous hand-shake incident.

Uncalled for to say the least, well managed? Not in the least. The whole incident was handled very poorly in my humble opinion. Does House deserve a crack in the face after the games over, in the hand-shake line? No of course not!!! Absolutely immature and unprofessional, childish really. 3 games minimum, rest of the season max!

Should the police have been called? I don't think it was necessary. (BTW-someone tell Hughes, Municipal Police have Jurisdiction for the Province.) Did an assault take place? Technically yes! Some discretion should be used in an incident like this. Could this matter have been handled informally and civilly between the two teams in question? Yes of course! To what end, I'm unsure....It depends on the individuals and whether they can settle it respectfully between them.

I can tell you PA will deal with the perp! (as Hughes, Ballbaby, BullyB would call him, they're all up on Police lingo) ;)

As for the Chant

Ballbaby,

I could not agree more...It's unnecessary for us old men to chant.

Incident

Aves, I forgot your the only one allowed an opinion, you were so busy seeing red that you didnt even see what I was doing..... you guys were mauling the ref, I was simply saying what do you want him to do ?? he didnt see it , what was the point in 8 of your guys trying to convince him what to say? Did you see me go to our player .... Way to Go, Glad you hit him??

The only thing that pissed me off was your usual intelligent Fcuk off!! I understand you were pissed but cmon, did I do something to you? I was trying to talk to you and ask you what you wanted the ref to do and your best line was ... wait for it... fcuk you and fcuk off.. Is it wrong for someone from the offending team to find out what the ref is going to say? I guess we all should have put our tail between our legs and ran to the dressing room......

5bigtoes said it all very well in his post.... was it right! Fcuk No, should he be punished by the league, damn right ... Our player will be dealt with by the team as well......

But Aves you can think what you want but I dont remember hearing me say anything to defend the player but I must admit I did get heated but I think its natural to react when someone is telling you to fcuk off, but I guess you only see your side, but Im used to that, OH and by the way when someone comes over to make amends you usually say something more then UGH,

Ballbaby.... dont remember defending him, you and Aves might want to get your stories straight... I believe I said something along the lines of at the dressing rooms.... its natural to want to look after your player and deal with it in house... in other words find out what the ref saw and go from there and I said to Aves I guess you would never defend a teammate, which brought another stream of fcuk yous and fcuk offfs...........

oh and did you talk to Duncan or is it okay for him to stick his nose in to?

Ballbaby, what can I say!!!!

I may have a bad memory but I cannot recall EVER having our teams do the 3 cheers crap. That lurker, whoever he is is wrong.

Guys like you were always class guys and as far as I recall when you were there we didn't do the 3 cheers. In fact, my non- cheering policy was fully endorsed by class players like John Connor etc and you were then.

I can only surmise your therapist has provoked this memory of cheering that didn't happen. You know that recall situation where people recall things that never happened but now believe them to be true.

:p

Three cheers for eliminating 3 cheers!!!

ooh you're not the only one with an opinion Aves

Rabbit ears: I was prepared to leave it as is with the Matlock piss-take but if I must....

Re: "mauling the ref" nice choice of verbs...what we were doing was trying to get the ref to put it on the game report that the assault took place..something you were trying to cover up. The ref said he heard the smack but didn't see it. We said "everyone knows who did it"...but you wanted to be the handshake lawyer and make a case that if he didn't see it then it doesn't count.
That's why I told you to fcuk off...so deal with it. If the shoe fits...
Oh by the way , someone on your team did stand up and do the right thing and told the ref who did it...about 30 seconds after I told you to fcuk off for being a guy who doesn't know the difference between standing up for a teammate and fessing up to a diabolical act by someone on his club...ok I can understand why you wouldn't want to volunteer the info but don't get high and mighty about defending the twat.

As far as making amends...you offered your hand, I shook it...and bit my tongue because I felt like saying a lot more. At that point I thought...enough...however,you still deserved somewhat of a piss taking...and my sentiments pretty much sum up what we were all thinking about your involvement in the whole affair.

That being said, you did come over and express some remorse and it was duly noted by me...and I was prepared to leave it at that + the minor piss take...soccer and more importantly, life goes on. So maybe switch over to Law and Order to get some new material for your next defense:p

Damn it Aves beat me again!

Firstly, 5bt's and sillyrabbit, you guys have a great team who certainly do not need players who are going to act in this manner. I know you know that.

Secondly, I have always had a hard time defending teammates who act in a stupid manner. I am not one of those guys who will go through a wall for a teammate who has intentionally brought an act of refute upon himself. I will try to remediate the situation but not defend him. I will, however, go through a wall for a teammate who innocently or justifiably acts in a manner that may be perceived as questionable.

It appears we all agree that this act on the weekend does not fall into any category that justifies defending by his teammates. I am relieved that you both seem to agree.

Whether it is justified that the police were called can be debated until we are blue in the face. It becomes a personal issue. You know what the real sad thing about this whole fiasco is? My youth team was playing right next to this debacle. If I happened to be the unfortunate one to receive the sucker punch, and my kids were there to witness it, (they watched the first half) I would have to have acted in a manner that would set the best example. So what does that construe? Do I fight back? If I have to defend myself. Do I turtle? Only if I cannot get my bearings. Do I seek the perpetrator out and give him the same treatment? No, because I risk a criminal charge, and he certainly IS NOT WORTH THAT? Do I ignore the whole thing? Absolutely not! That is not an option in this specific case. So, I might call the police and let them decide if it is a criminal matter or not.

I think our player is doing what he feels he needs to do in this case. It might just stop at where things are right now or carry on. It is up to him. I had some explaining to do to my kids. Such is life!
It isn't the first time nor will it be the last time that such an act will happen.

Man do I need to get fit.

I remember reccos

reccos,

I do believe you are a little older than me and may possibly suffering the effects of dementia earlier than I will.

I do remember your hands thrust into the circle, one upon another, (yours always first) and your very distinctive voice screaming the rant. While you were so gleefully partaking in this tribal ritual, you would look proudly at all of us, as if to say, "enjoy this moment friends for it may be our last. Now walk proudly toward your opponent, grasp their hand firmly and shake it as if you never want to let it go" I remember this reccos.

Maybe three cheers isn't so bad after all.
