zenga....you know why cassano isnt in the line up. he played well in euro and i figured Lippi would give him a good oppurtinity in 06. Is he injured? Or just no room for him?

1-1? did they play poor? They still have a strangle hold on group 5 so im not too worried. I think this is one of the best midfields theyve had in a while De Rossi and Pirlo are playing really well and Gattuso is as tough as anybody. Liking the chances this year. Just need the best keeper in the world to get healthy!

Didn't see the game myself, but got the review from my father (who is a biased Italian of course :D )

He said Scotland came out strong, getting the first goal early, but many more chances for Italy after that. Vieri missed a couple good chances, one open net side-foot volley from inside the 18 apparently. Why they continue to play him is beyond me!!

If Norway get a result today, they'll be 2 points back.

I agree, Vieri hasnt been there in 4 years. Totti is almost in the same boat. Both havent produced internationally for a while now. They have to start bringin some of the younger guys into the fold, nice to see Grosso get on the board. Norway did get the result and are only 2 points back.....the azzurri play belerus on wednesday in which i hope should be an easy 3. Hopefully Vieri finds his form and Totti starts potting.

Outkast,

Italia played ok.

But they always seem to play at the level of the opponent. Scotland didnt play bad but they had one chance and scored, Peruzzi touched the ball one other time.

I though Totti played ok, not his best game but not his worse. Lucky again not to get a second yellow when he sort of threw his hands in the face of one of the Scotland players. Vieri missed a sitter in the 6, his right foot is shite.

Having said that three offside calls that were not and the ref missed a peno for Italy in the first half.

Cassano will be in the squad, I dont think he has been playing much with his rumored move to Juve but come next year he will be there.

Zambrotta was great so was Nesta. For me Pirlo wasnt playing advanced enough, Gattuso should play in front of the defense allowing Pirlo to go forward.

Anyways would like to hear a Scotish view of the game.

The atmosphere at Hamden (hopefully I got that right) looked amazing from TV.

Cassano wasn't chosen b/c he's been frozen out of the Roma lineup due to his contract problems.

My view of the match and on some of Lippi's selections.

Scotland did what they could: early goal and defend, Peruzzi wasn't tested the rest of the match. Scotland would have won this match if Lippi didn't pull his head out of his ass in the second half.

Zaccardo's international career should be over after his give-away against Ireland and then his nap on Miller's goal - hence the half time sub. Second chance - he's done. Grosso did well to get up the park when he came in. De Rossi didn't deserve to start ahead of Cameronasi. He may have been a U-21 stand out but hasn't shown enough. Vieri is done. He hasn't scored an important goal for Italy in years. He barely played last season and he won't be a regular at Milan. Luca Toni (my bias) is a big man with skill should start on Wed. Iaquenta has his chance today and showed nothing. Wednesday's trident should be Luca, Gilardino (if still not injured) and Totti (while Cassano is still out). Zambrotta played well at left back but will be suspended for Wed, Lippi should bring in young Chiellini. Totti (painful to say his name) only get going when kicked, his dead balls were terrible today. Nesta, Canna were tight at the back as usual.

With Norway's win, a not so easy match at Belarus is critical. The 3 point cushion is gone. A cockup (which wouldn't surprise) will leave this a battle to the last day. Italia can never make it easy on themselves.

Out.

Unbelievable how tight Ireland's group is with 4 of the 6 teams undefeated........ The U.S. has just stuffed Mexico and they're through.........Ukraine has qualified for the first time ever(granted it has only been a country since 1991(I think?). Well done......Poland continue to lead England for the automatic qualification and Serbia/Montenegro have still managed to avoid conceding a goal in the qualifying. Impressive stuff.....

Ireland, with a win against France on Wednesday, could set themselves up for a good chance for a playoff at least......:( Come on, Ireland......

Scotland pulled out the win but England are playing with fire in Northern Ireland. Its 0-0 after 55 minutes with the boys from Belfast knocking on the door. Its all Frank "Super Goals" Lampard fault I tell you. Where are the goals Fat Frank?

OK - Now I'm gonna chirp

I am fcuking stoked.

I watched the whole Italy match with my old man and to somewhat disagree with the Ities here (Dego bastards ;) ) I thought Scotland very much deserved the tie.
In fact, Kenny Miller was brilliant copmpared to Vieri and Totti and Barry Ferguson took Gattuso to school.
My opinion is, biased of course, we should have got all the points until we were caught napping on the rebound and not one, but two guys left wide open at the back stick to tie it up at Hampden.

Getting a deserved tie against a powerhouse like Italy and knocking off Norway has me for the first time in a long excited about our National program.

Also, nothing like looking at the bench having the Old Firm in Wally, Tommy, and Ally running the show.

We are the people,

RF

Croats tie Malta 1:1

Sweden wins with a goal late in the 90th minute 1:0 over Hungary.

Sweden now takes over the lead in Group 8 by 1 point.

Huge game coming up in October in Zagreb against Sweden!!!

I managed to catch the first half of the England/NI game downtown at the public house pub while on lunch. The game seemed choppy and lacked any decent flow. I never thought I'd be saying this, but Beckham was the lone bright spot feedingt a few smart balls to Wright Phillips. But other than that, the game was a disappointment.

The straight arm that Rooney delivered seemed more deliberate than the one Mido of the Spurs landed against Chelsea. Mido was quickly rushed by the ref, waiving red and sent off. I think this yellow for Rooney means he's out for the next match...great player, but a little hot in the head.

England have yet to impress with the overlap of similar playing styles in the midfield (ie Lampard and Gerrard). Let's hope they come together quickly: there will be much disappointment if this squad fails to make a significant impact in the world cup.
