Inter 1 Cracovia 1

Not much to say just that it wasn't a great game. Cracovia scored a very weak goal and we had our chances. We had much of the play but...
The field was absolute crap and the refereeing wasn't much better. However, you need to play through these things.

Good win on a small pitch. :knvb:
Besty from 2 yards out on a clean header hit a sprinkler head and it caromed up to hit the bar and stayed out. He made up for it though a couple minutes later with an outside of the foot 16 yard bender to put WV up 3 or 4-1 at the time.

The dancing bear, Brolly, in his first start since his kick in the head concussion last March, had 3 for Peg.

VFF next week, the 9 or 10 firemen on the WVPeg side looking forward to that one, should be fun, maybe followed up by 18 @ Riverway...

Westside 6-3 SFU

Man it was hard running and a tough game but I figured they couldn't keep it up for 90 and we finally had our way after 60 or so. JC and Al McGrath with 2 each. Just call us the Oilers...

SCP ............. I know you are getting your Mouseketeers ears right now, but can you ......... or anybody comment on the 2-1 ABD game for PCOV v. Firemen. Does this possibly mean some suspensions for Firemen in our upcoming game this weekend????

No Suspensions for anyone...the referee just decided to call the game after 80 minutes after he thought he heard something from our sideline especially after the FF score their second goal to go up by one...jags, they will have thier full squad next weekend unless the c shift is on duty or is it the b shift???

Peter:It will be a win for FF...I will speak with WA in regards with the Golden Boot...Currently in the Open they only give it out to the Premier Division leading scorer and it maybe just the same for us as well....

cheers

Hey Peter. What's with all of the goals? You have to do something about the goals against though! All we can say is that we're happy to be back on our home field at Hastings Bowl. At least there's some grass there. We're all stiff and sore from the barren field at Strathcona. All others beware. If you play there expect everything!

SCK, the obvious answer is Johnny's on fire. But I'll add that he's only had 2 of his 7 goals during the course of play, 5 have been on penalties (3 spot, 2 within shooting range).

He's a tough guy to mark and a lot of guys end up fouling him...and then paying the price. I can tell you from experience that even when you foul him you might end up on the long end of the pain stick, he's pretty big and has great control of where he's falling ; ) But we have a lot of guys who are hungry to score and keep up with him and I can't see him keeping up this pace.

You're right: we haven't been very good at defending this year and there's no way we expect to keep scoring this many goals. I hope when we slow down we are able to plug the hole in the D as well. Merkl and Bun have played out of their heads too. In my pre-game talk it's all about stopping the other team from scoring and we haven't been very good at it.

It's pretty exciting to watch though, so we'll just keep going the way we're going and see where it all ends up in this world we never made.

Holy Deja Vu all over again Peter. Just read your last post... change a few names and your were talking about us, save for we do not (yet) have a 7 goal scorer. But it sure does ring a bell about giving up a weak goal aftertaking early leads...so far this year I am pretty sure we have been up 2 bagel in all 3 games within an hour only to give up a weak one and then wake up again; maybe its better to go down one like you did Sunday...In any event, we cannot continue that (nor can you I would guess) over the next few weeks and expect to hold our positions(s).

Anyway, just figured I woud log on and post. It is a lot cheaper than the beating I took in the Casino tonite, playing here is a lot different than the Friday nite game at Dicken_Sider's place...
Only down $260 so far, big comeback tomorrow...:knvb:

Johnny is on fire huh? That truly is a scary thought. He is definitely a handful, not only for his size and athleticism, but mostly for his brain. The guy makes the most intelligent decisions on the pitch and on your team, that makes him stand out like a sore thumb. ;)

Peter, it sounds like you are sticking to coaching duties, with your wonky knee and all. I can imagine your pre-game talks on a cold Sunday morning, your team huddled around you, and your Saturday night Scotch breath vapourizing in the cold air, mixing with the cigarette smoke eminating from a couple of last pre-game drags from a couple of your lads. I've seen it before. If we are both lucky and play like we can, I will see it again, when we meet in cup play.

It's going to be a long season. Do they get longer as one gets older?

Since I gave up the Chelsea game to watch, might as well comment... the two goals against, both headers off crosses: one by Doug Thomas and one by Steve Hobbs - hardly weak, both pretty nice looking efforts, but lack of a big centre back obvious from the peanut gallery. Rudi and/or Paul Dickson probably would have cut those out had they been available. Impressive ball movement from Deeth and Hillier in return though, they answered well. With so many watching from the sidelines or away, WVFC sure showing their depth early.

Good entertainment and nice to be home and out in the sunshine.

BTW, took in the Wickham/Metro Ford game Friday night. Great action and hard spirited tackling for an early season game - the guys had a great time. Was sceptical at first, but now looking forward to lacing it up with the Masters crowd if I ever get back to the Shore.

CJ good observations, missimg our 1st 4 center back selections (actually maybe 6) netting us a central defence that had to wear heels to dance with Paula Abdul did not help on those headers...l

This is not a lobbyng effort for a spot is it?

Balls,

The early, pregame huddle can still be a little like that although we have a new beer guy (Wilmsy) who hasn't seen clear to spring for a single malt yet...and he's a stickler on clearing tabs. And I think we picked up a (cigarrette) smoker in the offseason so now we've got 3 or 4.

We also instituted a 3-digit IQ signing requirement (although we have a couple of grandfathered guys) so your intelligence slag is moot this year. Those smart guys ask too many questions though and I'm thinking of going back to the old "chug-3-beers-blindfolded-without-using-your-hands" test next year.

It's been a couple years since we've had an SU/WS tilt and if it happens this year we'll be sure to have a bottle o' beauty on hand for the postgame session—or do you guys still hang around for a few after the game since signing Regs the killjoy?

I do like to watch... and who wants to be second fiddle when they could be seventh! The transfer fee that Bob would demand might be too steep for you though - do you have a ball with Paula's name on it?

There's a new thread with match of the week voting on it but no redictions yet so here goes.

Sapperton v Columbus—Sapperton Park
Lobbans v Cracovia—Queen's Park East
Inter v SFU—Hastings North
Westside v PCOV—Hillcrest East
Firefighters v West Van—Riverway

My picks: Columbus, Crakovia, SFU, Westside, FF.

I don't like to take ties and a couple of home field advantages might make the difference this week. I can tell you we will be in tight with a bunch of no-shows and injuries. Time to juggle the back line...if we even play with all the rain.

Sir M, my predictions of you guys losing are just wishful thinking and also another veiled attempt to get Scotty on here tossing out his thoughts on matters from the firemen's POV. A couple more posters could liven up the mix on here but I know it can be tough to step up and say what's on your mind when your team is going through rough spots...particularly when it's all grey and rainy and depressing and everything.

The weather report is for mixed conditions from here through the weekend. Park closures are left up to each civic area so there are different criteria and notification protocols out there. Here are some numbers (I don't know if they're all current):

North Van 983-6444 x503
Vancouver 473-6206
New West 527-4634
Richmond 276-4383
Burnaby 294-7984
West Van 925-7209
Coquitlam (604) 927-6969 x 6
Pt. Moody (604) 469-4551
Pt. Coquitlam (604) 927-5455
Surrey (604) 501-5000 x 1, 2, 2, 2
Maple Ridge (604) 467-7321 x 3, 2

Most make decisions Thursday or Friday.

So that will tell you if a park is closed but you should always check the Excellent Site to see if your game is cancelled or changed to a different venue.
