The Big Show says, my internet privleges(sp?) have been revoked due to my excessive, and compulsive porn habit. I will however get my own account next week when I have access to a computer in TheRob's office. I may lose my job if my porn habit re-appears. Don't tell Leigh
Thanks mate. Good battle as always. May have been different if you had been there earlier.
The key for us this summer has been numbers. I don't think we've had less than 16 or 17 at any game. The full line changes help. Thinking about that, I think it would be a good idea to allow unlimited substitutions in VMSL, except perhaps Premier.
It would raise the standard of games in my opinion, and also give teams more opportunity to keep everyone happy.
We are, after all, all amateurs.
Not sure who you're playing for in the winter, but good luck.
You're absolutely right. All the divisions, including the elite premier, should have unlimited subs. Most of us are not getting paid and it would make for better soccer in the long run. It is a fcuking joke that we can't make unlimited subs. Good luck this year.
Unlimited subs is the only way to go. It will cater to better football in the long run. Teams can try new players out in different positions every game, if they choose and not have to worry about "wasting" subs. Of course, there is always the issue of a team which has used up its' quota of subs, gets an injury and has to play short. We're not fcuking professionals so we should do what is best for the league.
Can someone give me a good reason why the league should not adapt the unlimited sub rule besides "Aaah, it will slow the game down."
I don't see a problem with the lower divsions using 5 or 6 six subs per game...it's just beer league.
As far as the premier division goes, I believe it should stay in-line with what the FIFA rules state. It just makes the division seem more legit (opposed to bush league).
Over 30's OK...cos we're old wankers. But the young'uns should bloody well be fit enough to play for 90 mins. We already allow 5 friggin subs as it is...unlimited subs would surely lead to chaos for refs 'n'all. "Didn't I send you off 10 minutes ago"...its a slippery slope that can only lead to a small meal at half time...a bit like we do in cricket. Oops.
How are you gonna get better players if they're spending so much time watching the bastard game from the bench. The 'competition for places' attitude gets replaced by some 'west coast' primary school 'don't worry guys, you're all gonna get in game' bollox. Load of crap...balls should have laces in 'em too!
Lovely to be amongst the bullies and swots of the new and improved TTP.
Luch, I surrendered both my kits last season, thanks for lumping me in with Ginge and that massive twat JR and their ilk. And Tim, I almost forgot that untrustworthy tit. I'd love a Peg hat, however, thanks. E-mail it to me.
Dazza, you handed me a pink slip? First of all, what the fcuk is a pink slip, secondly does anyone else know anyone who is a big enough cnut to use such a naff expression, and thirdly you still haven't told me how you're planning on staying up in Div.1 when your only good player won't even sign for Pink Slip Athletic? Answers on a postcard.
TEE, when's that deck of yours going to be finished? Wanker.
I think I see what you're getting at but you still haven't given a strong reason for not changing it. It is not an issue of fitness to me but rather tactics. You would hope at the premier, 1st, and even the 2nd division for that matter that the majority of your players could go 90....... It would interesting to ask all the coaches/managers what their preference would be. For some reason, I think they might choose the unlimited. Having said that, I would accept CDs proposal of just having the elite Premier league continuing to use the current rules........
Nice to hear from you again, Gaffa. I hope you and the family are doing well.
I can see your point as well, but I really think it would raise the standard of the games. It probably wouldn't be abused either, as players would need to keep warm during the winter and wouldn't be on and off all the time.
Gaffa has it right. It's the competition for places and game time that drive player's to be their best.
Captain/Dazza,
I'm no soccer coach but if you wanted your team to preform at it's best...the thing to do is to make sure your players are as fit as possable. Tactics are over-rated, especially in the VMSL. It's the quality you have on the field that determines the success of the team.
I'm off topic again....uhm..
Rumor has it that I will not be playing in the VMSL this year.
If a team has 18 players out to practice and EVERY player is busting his hump for a spot, is it fair that 2 guys(possibly more) sit out every game, despite paying X amount of money at the start of the season. I don't think so.
People say summer soccer is much more relaxed. In some ways it is, but I have reffed Jammo, Colin Pettingale, and few more lads during the summer. If they get more worked up than they did during these games, I would be frightened of them in the winter. My point is summer soccer has unlimited subs and it seems to work out fine. As I have stated, the Gods of soccer in the Premier league can keep their rules as professional as possible, just in case they're going to have that last moment of glory at AC Milan or Ajax. For the rest of us, let us make subs and try to keep as many players as happy as possible. Think of how many times in your careers when bitterness sets in quickly because of the limited amount of subs available during a game. It festers and quite often leads to bigger problems.......
So for now, I will leave this issue and I fully understand the opposing sides' views. However, after looking at the pros/cons of unlimited substitution, I am definitely on the PRO side. How do I go about getting this rule changed?
Unlimited subs is stupid. Defending the idea because we pay money to play is even stupider...
This talk of bitterness setting in is bollox and you know it. The only bitterness I see is when Subterfuge starts talking about the VMSL Premier. Why is that Stephen?
I'll be "pro" on this one as well. Well, at least as far as Div 2 & 3. Despite the sometimes fierce competition, they are essentially beer leagues. As far as Premier goes, no question, remain status quo.
However, Div 1 is a bit more of a pesky situation: several teams are ligitimately vying for promotion, however, others are simply flash-in-pants, one-year-only Div 1 wannabe's. That said, I see Div 1 as a essentially a breeding ground for Premier type players, and as such, should go by Premier-style rules (3 or 5 subs, your choice).
