Ah, mystery solved. And he would have gotten away with it, if it weren't for those pesky kids.

A very difficult game awaits against the mighty South Delta Royals. It always hard to be always playing against teams and coaches who know more than you, but hard work sometimes prevails.
I will be back after the game with the reports that all of you love to read.

Campo will shitkick Delta, neither team will shower. Delta will remain the better club.
The way I see things. This will be a very difficult game for Campo. Perhaps this is more challenging and less probability of winning it than the recent games with Rinos Tigers and CCB.
I have seen South Delta play in the summer and through the years. They have something very valuable and dangerous, which is the heart to play hard. This in my opinion is more important in many game situations.

For sure, this will be a game with a lot of fireworks and like hand to hand combat situations exhausting on both sides.
Given their experience last year, and that Campo comes from the humble Division 2, I see South Delta Royas as the favourites.
I must say that I still have in my memory a game with them from several years ago at Ambleside, and those guys ran and fought to the end like no other team.

ps. yes, they are a better club because they are attached or linked to a youth club. As the years go by, it is very difficult to survive without the influx of a youth base.

Thursday means it's time for the @Ion powered Weekly Predictions!!

Bingers v NorVan
MOTW Part 1 to start the schedule down at Memorial on Friday. Bingers are replicating their first half form from last season as, if you account for their game in hand, they are top of the table. NorVan got a point off CCB at home last week, but are treading water as serious promotion candidates even this early in the year. It will be crucial for them to at least not lose to Bingers and Tigers this week and next, lest they should concede more ground in the promotion race. The Army, for their part, have yet to allow a goal and NorVan aren't exactly banging them in at will at the moment. If things go right for NorVan and they get an early goal they might just knick this one, but all signs point to a hard fought 1-0 or 2-0 for Bingers.

GN v Rino's Vancouver
An intriguing match up in Surrey Friday as GN come off a comprehensive win on the road last week and seem to be finding their feet in this division. Rino's remain unbeaten, but have only one win in 4 games against bottom of the table Metro. I think the points are there for GN to take, but Rino's are the draw specialists, so I'll hedge and say they split the points.

Romania v Metropolitan
An early relegation 6 pointer as the league's two current bottom teams go at it. Metro have had a brutal start to the season with Romania's performances only being slightly better; they picked up their first point of the season last week. This game is likely to come down to which group is still buying in to their team dynamic. Metro has consistently underperformed this season and there comes a point where that means they aren't actually underperforming, that's just the level that they are at. Add a long weekend and a likely vacant campus for Students, and if Romania doesn't get the all three points this week, I'm not sure when they will.

CCB v Rino's Tigers
MOTW Part 2 goes Saturday in Surrey when ambitious CCB host title favourite Tigers. This is CCB's chance to send a message to the league that they are for real again this season. That being said, as usual, it is tough for me to bet against the Tigers and their free scoring ways. I think CCB has every chance to win this game, but I'll pick Tigers to consolidate their promotion campaign.

Campo v South Delta
Not much to analyze here. Campo are in form, SD are not. The Tsawwassen boys (and yes I am aware that South Delta encompasses BOTH Tsawwassen and Ladner...) seem to have suffered from the rumoured loss of players to Richmond or elsewhere, as their results are well out of step with their performances last season.

Thank you for the predictions. They are always appreciated. Almost all is very reasonable. I might just see Norvan with tie at Bingers. Norvan should regroup by now, and Bingers (though very good - the results might be over-inflating their performance). I also would not underestimate the Royals. They might be awarded more points depending on how the protest goes. As we know the bucolic communities have a way of forming very tough teams.

The VMSL October board meeting has taken place. There will be no change to the result of the 4-4 draw between Rino's Vancouver and SD Royals.

As someone with children playing in South Delta, no the SD Royals do not have a youth attachment. Two entirely different clubs. May want to brush up on your knowledge before posting.

I do not think so, but if you do not want to see it. Then, so be it.

Binger's Army 2 - NorVan Lions 3

or the Army seems to have become the Sisyphus of Division 1.

Year after year the Army starts winning games, expectations get high, until one or two losses happen. The games start to go by, until suddenly the season is over, and then the process starts all over again. Yesterday's game has made very clear that this will be another year of the same dynamics. Like the tale of Sisyphus.

I decided to attend this key game in the division last night. I was actually rooting for the Army as I feel that they deserve to win promotion for once for all their tribulations and perseverance over the years. The game was simply not meant to be won by them. However, the most relevant aspect of the game was that it is clear that Norvan is very likely to outperform the Army during the season. This leaves the Army competing with Rinos Tiger for another promotion spot. Very unlikely that they will finish ahead of the Tigers given the strength of the Tigers and possible support from the other two Rino's Teams.

Norvan started with a very early lead. Strategically the game was very repetitive for about three quarters of a game. Norvan tried to build up on the ground. The Army will press with the forwards, but sits back with the defenders and most of the midfielders. After the Norvan outplays the forwards, it simply would not be able to penetrate pass the midfield. Once in a while the Army will get the counter, but with no real threat.

The Army discounted and tied the game with a typical goal from them. A corner kick to the tallest forward. He heads it perfectly. The goalie and defender saves it on the line only to be kick back to the net on the rebound.

Norvan goes up in a lead with a truly fantastic finish. Slow build up. Midfielder gets under pressure and sends a long ball across the pitch and their running forward volleys it to the opposite top corner. A truly great finish. One of the best goals in Division 1.

The game did not change much until something that I did not expect occurred. The Norvan coach, not the regular coach, puts on the field a very small and fragile player. He seemed to be under-age. Perhaps of Asian heritage. A contrast with the rest of the players, but man...this kid really had a superb control of the ball and good movement off the ball. The tide changed and he helped to completely dominate the Army, as they could not get out of their own end. The Norvan attacks started to become very dangerous and the keeper and defenders made some really desperate saves.

Sooner or later the goal was going to happen. It came in a rather dramatic way. After a free kick, the defense was caught ball watching three times. The keeper was put on the firing squad three times in a matter of four seconds. One save was quite impressive as he dove and saved a shot from one meter. However, the third one was too much for him and the ball travelled like a projectile to the net.

Norvan could have added two more goals thanks to the movement of the young player. However, the Army got another goal as they usually do. Long pass to the side. Cross to the opposite post and a header. Nice goal.

The game suddenly became very exciting as even the Army keeper was on the opposite penalty area trying to head corner kicks and free kicks, and then Norvan will counter just to miss the open net.

Eventually, the referee blew the whistle. The game is over. Norvan has clearly regrouped. They had a very good game and in my opinion showed that they have all the pieces to finish ahead of the Army.

I was truly impressed by the young player. I was wondering why he did not play the entire game. He is one of the best players in Division 1 that I have seen this year.

Norvan should achieve a promotion spot if they play every game like this. The Army for sure will get a lot of points but there is no room for them to get promotion with Norvan and the Tigers.

I guess until next year.

That was the nicest goal I have ever seen. As a goalie u like to replay all goals in your head and ask what you could of done differently I don't take defeat well but that goal by Blake was world class

Nice match report- maybe you need to stick to teams other than your own.

Anyone know who this kid was that stepped into a div 1 match and ran the show?
