Federov to the Ducks. $40 million for 5 years.

Isn't that less than the Wings offered? Silly man.

The Pavol's

Demitra gets $6.5 million for 2003-2004

TORONTO (CP) - Star forward Pavol Demitra of the St. Louis Blues was awarded a one-year, $6.5-million US contract from an arbitrator Monday.

The award was the second-highest in NHL salary arbitration history, second only to the $7-million US John LeClair of the Philadelphia Flyers received in 2000.

Demitra earned $3.975 million last year. He lead the Blues in scoring with 93 points (including 36 goals) in 78 games, finishing sixth overall in the NHL.

Demitra's arbitration hearing, the first of this year's two-week period, was held Friday.

If the Blues - who are looking to reduce their payroll - feel Demitra's award is too steep, they have the option of walking away from the decision and making him an unrestricted free agent. St. Louis has 72 hours in which to accept or reject the arbitrator's ruling.

This will be an interesting decision for the Blues who apparently have been shopping Doug Weight around to lower payroll. Will they let Demitra go for nothing... I doubt it but what could they be doing? Some rumours have Cujo going there too??? This could be an interesting few weeks.

In other news apparently Pavel "Im too good for Vancouver" Bure's last knee surgery didnt go as well as planned and he could be forced into an early retirement. At the time I HATED Gary Suter but now I really do wish I could shake his hand. Thats really too bad as early retirement and a lifetime of severe knee pain couldnt have happened to a nicer guy:rolleyes:

Gary Suter

You are right... After a little internet investigation it was Steve Smith who injured Pavel in 1996. So I must have been thinking of the Paul Kariya injury you mentioned.

St.Louis

Blues bite the bullet, sign Demitra

TSN.ca Staff
8/7/2003

The St. Louis Blues have re-signed forward Pavol Demitra, who was awarded a $6.5 million contract by an arbitrator on Monday. The Blues had 72 hours to accept or reject the arbitrator's decision. Rejecting it would have allowed Demitra to become an unrestricted free agent.

While listening to the game on CKNW last night I hear this little tidbit of info that I found quite interesting. This year the home whites won't be white. The home team will be wearing their "road" unies at home this year. Interesting.

From what I understand, it's either this year or next when every team will be doing this.

Infact, before 1967(?), all the teams did this. They changed it because it was too hard to keep whites clean on the road.

Seeing the Leafs play at GM Place in white will be sweet, eh Bronco!

I just hope they pull out the Leaf jerseys from the 70's (blue stripe down the sleeves) to match the Canuck old jerseys.

Then they can forget the helmets and clear the benches when any fisticuffs take place. Oh ya! Old time hockey! Goodtimes....:D

When it TTP going to start a hockey team that plays at 8 rinks? Sensei, you can play defense. :D

That would require a lot of backwards skating, which is not exactly my forte.

Come to think of it, skating forwards has been a challenge at times as well.

I mostly just try to spear the opponent in the nads, rendering him useless for the rest of the game. This way I can at least qualify to be a member of the Leafs, or at least crack their farm system.

Sensei,

To at least qualify to be a member of the Leafs, you would have to be loved by millions and millions the world over and, unfortunately, you are not. :( (Not without trying, I must say!)

You are only loved by half the people on this site (1/4 of all Canuck supporters). That would mean that you are more suited to play for the Canucks, who at present, have a leading goal scorer by the name of Darrin Langdon. Look out league! The cup is coming west!

Right. Maybe the Canucks should hold their training camp in Newfoundland to appease their leading scorer.

Oh, wait, the Buds already have a monopoly on thinly-veiled attempts at knob-gobbling their star players - by sacraficing a real NHL training camp to play exhibition games eight time zones over - against a bunch of guys who probably couldn't cut it in the ECHL.

I hear next year they're setting up camp in Ireland to get on Nolan's good side going into a free-agency year. Maybe they can find him a decent chiropractor while they're mucking about in Cork. Word on the street says the Dublin Flyers (I can't even make this one up...) are a real force to be reckoned with.

Maybe the Leafs can poach a blueliner or two when they're on tour. Enjoy that Rick Jackman-Wade Belak defense combo while you can. I can hardly wait for the day Ferguson announces that he and Quinn have coaxed Paul Coffey and Al Iafrate out of retirement.

Road Jerseys

It's this year. And so far, the Canucks are only doing 5 games with the old jerseys. Montreal is one of the home games and apparently they will wear old ones as well. The Toronto one is not included, which is a shame, as it would be nice to see those old jerseys from the days, long before any of us were even born, when they used to have success and built their 'great' tradition. Right Bronco ? ;)

Heatley, Snyder in traffic accident

TSN.ca Staff

9/30/2003

Dany Heatley and Dan Snyder are in hospital in Atlanta after being involved in a serious traffic accident Monday night.

According to reports out of Atlanta, Heatley was driving his 2002 black Ferrari in the Buckhead section of the city while travelling 130 kilometres an hour when he swerved into the opposite lane, crossed the dividing line and left the pavement before crashing broadside into a brick pillar and iron fence. The pair were returning from a season ticket holder function just prior to the accident.

Snyder, 25, was thrown about 30 feet from the vehicle, which was cut in half by the impact of the crash. Authorities say he was unconscious when taken to the hospital while Heatley got out of the car on his own, but collapsed a few feet from the car, police say.

According to his agent, Snyder has a severe skull fracture, but his surgery went well. His vital signs are good and he is breathing on his own. He is highly sedated and being kept in a medical coma. According to doctors, the next 72 hours are critical.

Heatley, 22, is in stable condition with a broken jaw.

Heatley has received five seperate charges resulting from the accident, the most serious of which is 'serious injury by a vehicle' - a felony. If convicted of this, Heatley faces between one and 15 years in prison. He also received four misdemeanor charges: wreckless driving, driving too fast for conditions, driving on the wrong side of the road and striking a fixed object.

Heatley was required to give blood samples to be tested for drugs and alcohol, which is standard practice for accidents of this nature. Results may not be known for days or weeks.

The Thrashers cancelled practice Tuesday and were considering cancelling Wednesday night's exhibition against Florida.

``Nobody's really thinking about hockey,'' team captain Shawn McEachern said. ``We're thinking about the guys.''

General manager Don Waddell and Snyder's parents were flying in from Toronto on Tuesday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"We don't know anything," Murray Heatley told the Journal-Constitution en route to the airport in Calgary. "We just know they were in a bad accident. We're praying for (Dany). We're hoping and praying for Dan Snyder."

Snyder was already on the injured list following ankle surgery three weeks ago. He joined the Thrashers as a free agent in 1999 after playing four seasons of junior hockey for Owen Sound in the Ontario Hockey League.

Snyder spent most of his first two professional seasons in the minor leagues, helping Orlando win the International Hockey League title in 2000-01 and playing on the Chicago Wolves' American Hockey League championship team in 2001-02. He played 35 games for Chicago last season, scoring 11 goals and adding 12 assists.

Heatley, the NHL Rookie of the Year in 2002, led Atlanta in scoring last season with a team-record 41 goals and 48 assists. He is the Thrashers' career scoring leader with 155 points. He scored four goals in the 2003 All-Star game and was selected the MVP. The former University of Wisconsin player was the second overall pick in the 2000 draft.
