Headed to the Campo game yesterday. Strange match.

Campo dominated first half. Had so many breaks and chances but only put one away. Richmond controlled the second, pushing hard but without really forcing the Campo keeper to make a save. Then from what felt like out of nowhere, they tied it up with 11 minutes to go. Both teams had a chance to win it before extra, then Campo took over in the extra 30, hitting three goals (two of them on the counter as Richmond pushed) to win it 4-1.

Hadn't paid that much attention to the Campo bench but noticed in extra time they only had 11 available players, so pretty impressive. They even went down to ten for five minutes when one of their guys had to go off and rest after what looked like a head knock. First time seeing them. They do play a nice passing game out of the back, but then seem to rely on a big punt forward at the end for their number 8 or 9 to run on to.

Here's some video I captured from the game. Got all the goals and a few other things. Mostly all in focus this time!

Rino's Fury won 3-1 over Snipers.

Three up at half time and cruising. Caught napping at a corner at the start of the second half (apparently! I missed it as was getting something to drink!) but result was never in doubt.

Mundi 3 - 2 Strikers

It was a scorcher at Burnaby Lake, it felt like summer temperatures! The strikers had a nice long warm up as we hid in the shade.haha

We came out flat in the first half and that carried on for most of the day for us. Just one of those off games for us. Strikers took the play to us and scored in injury time of the first half. I missed their goal as I was getting instruction from our coach. 1-0 at half but could have been worse as they put the ball in the back of the net but it was called off for offside and had other dangerous attacks.

Second half we came out chasing and we started making some inroads but their defensive shape held firm. We were putting some pressure on them now but they weren't sitting back. They made it 2-0 with some nice passing and with 20mins to go...it was looking bleak for us. Our keeper made a huge save 1v1 or the game was over! We scored on a 3 on 2 break out. A nice through ball sprung our prolific marksman on goal and he made no mistake. We tied it up as I headed a lob behind their defenders and on to the run of our wing back who was hacked down in the box. Our goalscorer stepped up and slotted the PK home. Soon after, we go down to 10 men for a red card. We battled hard in extra time to get to penalties. Our keeper was man of the match for us up to that point and he carried on his stellar play with 3 saves in the shoot out!!

@Arch and Strikers are a classy bunch and probably should have beat us on the day but we never stopped believing. On to Rino next week.
Early prediction @dezza ...

Story goes pretty much exactly like @machel described. To many missed opportunities by us. We felt like we deserved the win but sometimes it doesn't go your way. I thought the referee did a pretty good job in the game with keeping his whistle away and letting the game go ahead. Good luck in the next round @machel

It is appreciated that you took the time to explain the situation with this analogy.

Each to his own. As you and @Regs have to be true to yourselves, I have to do the same.
Now that I know. I can tell you that this is not my kind of party. It was fun and interesting for me meanwhile it lasted.

There is a fantasy that you are creating and perpetuating with respect to Canadian soccer and the local scene. I will not take part in endorsing your fantasy. if you refuse to wake up from it. You can keep living the dream.

Alternative realities can be easily fabricated and some people are eager to accept them.

I am sure that reality will hit you from time to time (i.e. like when Mexico danced around Canada or the 7-1 loss to Honduras), but I am also certain that somehow you will manage to go back to this collective fictional reality.

But, you never know, perhaps one day you realize that you are part of the problem that has hampered Canadian soccer. Only time with tell. You might reach epiphany and see how it is all organically connected.

I was about to get a membership for this site, since I was well aware that I was using it a lot. I am glad that I did not do this.

As for the BC Cup, I just have to mention that I agree with @MasterTATA concern with unlimited substitutions. I did not believe it until I saw it.

In the last two games, both Richmond teams have come with approximately 20 players. They were doing hockey style substitutions. I saw some guys coming out of the field 3 times in one half!. They would play for 10 minutes, rest 5 minutes, and then go back to the field.

It is quite remarkable what Campo players did in the last two games. With no substitutes and sometimes with only 9 or 10 players because the Richmond teams were literally hacking our players, Campo players managed to score 9 goals and received only 2. My respect to those guys because they really love and fight with honour and decency in each game.

Is it really too hard to understand that endurance and technique are essential part of the game?

Oh... I forgot.. I am in the soccer fantasy land of @Dude, where players come to the sidelines to have ice-cream breaks and then they happily go back to the game.

A competitive soccer game is supposed to be fun, but it is also hard work and determination. It is not supposed to have this ridiculous five minute breaks when things start to get challenging.

As for the upcoming game, I went to see Impero Calcio. I enjoyed watching them. They have skilled and creative players. I particularly liked their midfielders. Their defence communicated well, and they could put the ball on the net.

The Fraser Valley team went ahead in two occasions by pure luck, but it was clear that they were going to lose sooner or later. They displayed very limited, unimaginative and poor soccer on their part. I can see why Surrey wants to be there. They will become top dog quite easily if that is the kind of soccer that they play in the Valley.

I am not sure if Campo will be able to overcome Impero Calcio, even without our injuries and absences, Impero aims to play nice and good soccer and could easily beat our team. It should be a good game.

The meeting of Impero Calico and Campo Atletico shows that even in our humble local pond the children of Helenio Herrera beat the the children of Charles Hughes.

@Dude, I hope you get the last comment.

Rest assured to both of you @Dude and @Regs, that you should not be worried. My comments will be minimal if ever again. Take care guys. Sweet dreams my friends in the soccer garden of Eden.

The narrative goes that a Soccer Coach sailed upstream a river and came across a beautiful blossoming peach grove and lush green fields covered with blossom petals.
Entranced by the beauty, he continued upstream. When he reached the end of the river, he stumbled onto a small grotto.
Though narrow at first, he was able to squeeze through the passage and discovered an ethereal utopia, where the people led an ideal existence in harmony with a game played with a ball, which sometimes they called soccer and sometimes football, but sometimes confused with another game called hockey.

He saw a vast expanse of fertile lands, clear ponds, mulberry trees, bamboo groves, and the like with a community of people of all ages and houses in neat rows, and endless numbers of perfectly kept soccer fields that were sporadically used.

The people explained that their ancestors gave ice cream to their children to play the game, they gave them multiple breaks and substitutions, they provided detailed explanations of doing the right things right and the wrong things wrong, and at the end of the game everyone was a winner.

They had not even heard other ways to play the game and teach their children. In the story, the community was secluded and unaffected by the troubles of the outside world except every four years. The sense of timelessness was also predominant in the story as a perfect utopian community remains unchanged, that is, it had no decline nor the need to improve, except for a vague past that is fervently idealized and is promised to be reached again with an elusive league.

Thus, our Soccer Coach is sent back as not to disrupt these peaceful and idyllic community where their children and elders play as none can in the rest of the world.

Can we do that? Implement ice cream breaks during play? Cause that would be awesome.

Dumb dumb...you are playing in the B Cup. You know that, right?

Funny and ironic that both you and Mr. Base decided to return on he same day. After both swearing you'd never post again.

Membership is limited to cool people so many others are also glad. It would have been awkward to say the least.

Anyways, enough about you and your failure to appreciate ice cream.

Bookie events are now ready to go for this weekend's semifinals:

How about a poll on which ice cream flavour Dude prefers for his ice cream game breaks?
