I give Mr Azzi credit for always posting about these guys. These guys do not want to be part of any cup. To me it would be better to leave Eagles in the league and kick them out. Eagles at least draw good crouds and try hard to play nice soccer. When do the caps do anything for Mr. Azzi. We do not see any local kids moving up. Resedency is a top piramid level. A pro club taking a place of a good amature side.
We are responsable for our own falts.
Kick the dam ball.

Eagles, I certainly agree. You?

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Four former Whitecaps—JASON JORDAN, JOHNNY SULENTIC, ALFREDO VALENTE, and STEVE KINDEL—>

Azzi loves his former Caps, especially when they come down for Pizza Pie and sign some autographs. What night is it happening, I will bring the kids, to kick JJ.:)

That's funny.........I swear I saw Spencer Coppin send Darren through for the first goal. :D

That's some classic stuff.

No, there's nothing classic about it except coach having far too many celebratory pints and double-crowns with the boys after the game and then trying to remember everything accurately the next morning...shocking on my part...maybe that's why Cino didn't come to training on Tuesday...still pissed I gave credit to JJ...I guess JJ shouldn't get his share of that pizza now , as he only set up one goal???

Johny i see you want to school for few months top be teachers aid. God help kids with you. Girls are ok but boys better have eye on the back side.
Azzi is an awesam guy. He posts what the club managers send and sometime he watches the game. Just look at Zak, he just a fat little man.He has to stop with his nice posts. And call the things the way they are. Johny is is getting growth on his back side. Dam pica tastes so good.
Gravety tends to do that if you strech the back side tomany times. Regs is right some of you need more than help.

IMPERIAL CUP—QUARTER-FINAL ROUND

2009-03-10

One of the favourites to win the Imperial Cup—the second place Metro-Ford Wolves—was unceremoniously eliminated by the visiting Surrey United Firefighters in the quarter-final round this past weekend, while Croatia SC defeated ICSF Inter by the same score—1-0—in another, albeit minor, upset. The other two matches ended in predictable results as Columbus-Clan FC easily defeated the RCIU Legends 3-0 and West Van FC beat the Norvan Eagles 3-1. West Van FC—the newly-crowned VMSL Premier Division champions—will meet Croatia SC in one the Imperial Cup semi-finals, while Surrey United will host Columbus-Clan FC in the other semi-final. Weather permitting, the semi-finals will be played this coming weekend, while the final will take place on March 29 at Kinsman Stadium in North Vancouver. In league play, the Serbian White Eagles’ last chance to avoid relegation failed as they dropped a heart-breaking 1-0 decision to Westside FC in a game played on Sunday at Point Grey School.

GAME #12: West Van FC – Norvan Eagles 3-1: On Friday evening, at Ambleside Park in West Vancouver, the 2008-09 Premier Division champions—West Van FC—managed to advance to the Imperial Cup semi-final round as a result of a well-earned 3-1 victory over the Norvan Eagles. A rather lacklustre first half ended in a scoreless tie although the former Trollers had a couple of early chances to take the lead. On both occasions, however, a couple of brilliant saves by Norvan’s goalkeeper Drew Smiley—on shots by Robbie Giezen and Ryan Glanville—kept the home team off the scoresheet. The Eagles, against the run of play, took the lead early in the second half as Gibson Bardsely—on a fine individual effort—raced in all alone and neatly tucked the ball into the back of the West Van net for the go-ahead goal. This seemed to be the wake up call that the home side needed as Milad Rahmati responded by scoring the equalizer—his 5th goal in 3 matches—on a well-taken corner kick by Paul Dailly. West Van FC dominated proceeding from this moment onward as veteran Paul Dailly once again rose to the occasion with his inimitable skills, enviable work rate, and amazing shooting ability. After Rahmati had been fouled at about the 22-yard line, Dailly stepped up and unleashed a wicked free kick around the Norvan defensive wall into the top corner of the net for what proved to be the winning goal. Dailly then proceeded to cap off a brilliant individual performance by scoring what could probably be described as the goal of the season as he—after beating a couple of Norvan defenders—blasted an unstoppable shot from about 25 yards past a stunned Drew Smiley. It should be noted that striker Ryan Glanville drove the Norvan defenders to distraction throughout the match with his indomitable work rate. West Van FC will now host Croatia SC in one of the semi-finals. The match will be played Friday evening at Ambleside Park, with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m.

GAME #13: Croatia SC – ICSF Inter 1-0: On Sunday, at Hastings Bowl in Vancouver, Croatia SC also advanced to the semi-final round of the Imperial Cup by defeating the visiting ICSF Inter by a narrow, but well-earned, 1-0 margin. Both teams came out of the starting gate with fire in their bellies and created numerous scoring chances in the early going. However, some excellent goalkeeping on the part of Croatia’s Didar Sandhu and Inter’s Erman Ozkan, kept the game scoreless until the 35th minute mark. At this point, a long punt by Sandhu was misread and mishandled by Inter’s central defenders Tim Perry and Bevan Footman and allowed Gary Anderson to chip the ball over an onrushing goalkeeper—Erman Ozkan—for the game’s lone goal. It should be mentioned that earlier in the match Ozkan had made an incredible save on another Anderson shot from just inside the 18-yard box. The second half was more or less a repeat of the first as both teams took turns attacking and defending. Shawn Parkes came very close to doubling Croatia’s lead but defender Scott Sparklin was able to clear the ball off the goal line with an amazing scissors kick. Late in the match, Inter’s Mike Tempesta had a glorious opportunity to knot the score but he inexplicably missed the wide-open net from close range. The Croatians will now travel to West Vancouver to take on the newly-crowned VMSL champions in what promises to be a cracker of a game!

GAME #14: Coquitlam Metro-Ford Wolves – Surrey United Firefighters 0-1: On Friday evening, at Town Centre Park in Coquitlam, the unpredictable Firemen edged the hot-and-cold Wolves by a 1-0 margin. The 0-0 halftime score reflected the run of play since the first 45 minutes were evenly played as both teams took turns controlling the pace of the game. The second half, however, saw both squads throw caution to the wind as they both went looking for the all-important, but very elusive, first goal. Both goalkeepers, Surrey’s Paul Shepherd and Metro-Ford’s Mathew Bird made numerous sensational saves to keep the game scoreless until the very last minute of the match. In particular, Bird made an outstanding save on a close-range shot by Surrey’s player/coach Niall Thompson, while Shepherd was equally brilliant on a wicked drive by Russel Huggon. With only moments remaining in the match, former Whitecaps’ captain Jeff Clark—a new signing in the Surrey United line-up—was fouled inside the Metro-Ford penalty area by Trevor Rosencrans. On the ensuing penalty kick, young Tom Lowndes sent Bird the wrong way and thus scored the winning goal. Defensively, Metro-Ford’s Brook Scott and Scott Butchler as well as Surrey United’s Steve McAuley and Brad Peetoom played extremely well throughout the contest. The Firemen will now take on Columbus-Clan in one of the semi-finals.

GAME #15: Columbus-Clan FC – RCIU Legends 3-0: On Sunday, at Hastings Bowl in Vancouver, Columbus-Clan easily defeated the visiting Richmond lads and thus qualified for the semi-finals of the Imperial Cup. After controlling the early part of the game, Columbus took the lead midway through the first half on a great 3-way passing play involving Steve DeBlasio, Tiernan King, and Rizal Ganief. In the end, it was Ganief that made no mistake in finding the back of the net from close range. Early in the second half, Ganief added his second goal of the match as he pounced on a loose ball in the middle of the field, proceeded to race in on goal and slotted the ball home with poise and precision. A few minutes later, Columbus added its third goal when midfielder Nathan Quan was fouled inside the Club Ireland penalty box by defender Geoff Salt, resulting in a penalty kick. Veteran Tiernan King stepped up to the plate and calmly placed the ball behind goalkeeper Matt Clayton thus putting the last nail in the Legends’ coffin. Columbus’ defence—composed of Robbie Cairns, Tony Gaita, Tynan Diaz, and Jonathan Poli—played extremely well throughout the match, making life relatively easy for goalkeeper Thomas Lindley as he recorded his second clean sheet in row. Needless to say, Rizal Ganief turned in yet another superlative performance as he drove the Richmond defenders to distraction with his speed and skill. Columbus will now travel to Cloverdale Athletic Park to take on the Surrey United Firefighters. The game is slated for Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

LEAGUE GAME: Westside FC – Serbian White Eagles 1-0: On Sunday, at Point Grey School in Vancouver, two desperate teams faced off in an all-important match. In fact, the White Eagles needed all 3 points to retain their slim chances of avoiding relegation while the Westsiders required a single point to remain in the Premier Division. The Serbians got off to a bright start and forced the home team into a defensive shell during the early part of the match. However, as the game progressed, Westside took over the reins of the match and started creating some excellent goalscoring opportunities. In particular, Sebastian Crema and Gavin Barrett were a perennial thorn on the side of the White Eagles defenders as they took full advantage of their speed and skill. However, Westside had to wait until midway through the second half to score the lone goal of the contest as defender James Possee hammered home a wicked half-volley for the game’s lone goal. Westside—led by the excellent midfield play of Keith Moore and John Stonehocker—held on for the well-deserved victory. Veteran goalkeeper Mike Wicken recorded the shutout in the Westside goal.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: CROATIA SC for its excellent performance in defeating the red-hot ICSF Inter by a slim, but well-earned, 1-0 margin. Led by the excellent play of forward Gary Anderson, as well as the fine goalkeeping of Didar Sandhu, the Croatians advanced to the semi-finals of the Imperial Cup where they will face another red-hot team—West Van FC.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Columbus-Clan’s young forward RIZAL GANIEF and West Van’s veteran midfielder PAUL DAILLY for their brilliant performances in leading their respective teams to very important Imperial Cup quarter-final victories. Ganief and Dailly each scored two amazing goals, albeit in totally different fashions. Ganief’s goals were a result of his amazing speed and skill as he beat several defenders before calmly slotting the ball into the opponents’ goal. Dailly, on the other hand, unleashed a couple of his patented long range shots that gave the goalkeeper no chance whatsoever. For their excellent performances, Ganief and Dailly will each receive a prize of a pizza for two, compliments of THE GOLDEN BOOT CAFFE`. The prize is available up to 2009-03-31.

How bloody old is Wicks now, he was an old guy when I was playing in the league, good on him for still going at it, he is a fantastic athlete and a great guy off the pitch too. Is he also playing Masters?

i believe wicks is 64. :D still wears the same green kit circa 1992.
we called him up due to injury and, not suprisingly, he was rock solid. classy veteran that makes defenders in front of him better and swallows up crosses better than any goalie i've seen. yes, he is playing masters (sharing duties with merkl).

I agree BRFC, perhaps its in my reading of it, but our report seemed to be way off base too...Columbus took the lead midway through the first half on a great 3-way passing play involving Steve DeBlasio, Tiernan King, and Rizal Ganief...what a joke that is...we overhit an attacking cross in their end only for it to be humped up the pitch to DeBlasio who passed it on to TK...TK's cross was scuffed and then our defender swung his boot at the ball and missed it for it to surprise Riz as it landed on his foot...one quick touch and then a solid finish, but nothing near a great 3-way passing play!

Early in the second half, Ganief added his second goal of the match as he pounced on a loose ball in the middle of the field, proceeded to race in on goal and slotted the ball home with poise and precision...again, not sure on this one ...Columbus cleared the ball out of their box past center and Riz half-heartedly chased our defender who then mis-hit his backpass to sixfyv, which made it easy for Riz to beat sixfyv to the ball, he then dribbled all the way to the goal and almost had his pass into the net blocked by our sliding defender.

Rizal Ganief turned in yet another superlative performance as he drove the Richmond defenders to distraction with his speed and skill...:confused::confused:

Ganief’s goals were a result of his amazing speed and skill as he beat several defenders before calmly slotting the ball into the opponents’ goal...I think even alleyzonme will admit (hey mate? ;)) he was gifted those two goals and didn't have to use any amazing speed or skill...probably two of his easiest goals all season thanks to our deplorable defending.

Not taking anything away from the final result, as Columbus-Clan fully deserved the result as they punished us for our mistakes, but they certainly didn't shite-kick us like Zenga makes the game sound...it was an ugly match by both squads and we served up their opportunities on a platter, which you can't afford to do against a quality side with attacking players like TK, Riz, DeBlasio, and Cucca...congrats on the result guys and good luck against a much improved Surrey Firemen on Saturday morning...go on alleyzonme, get yourself a couple of goals mate! ;)

Cheers!
