Captain. You hit the nail on the head. You had some "unhappy campers" in a Provincial Cup final? That's the difference between being a championship team and being just a good team. If a player is more concerned with her playing time in Cup play than she is the Cup itself, then they're holding the team back. That's harsh. But true. Players shouldn't be happy to sit out, ever. But they also have to put the team first.
I believe that why Surrey is on the run they are on. As a group, they are committed to winning. And they've had a core that's been together for so long that new players just buy in (or else move out). Burnaby Canadians had the same thing going, albeit for a much shorter run. UBC's commitment was the same for their five year run.
It takes a special group of special players to make that kind of commitment and sacrifice, but it's possible. You - as coach - just have to sell it. And you've got to have a leadership group to back you up.
Remember though Surrey had to lose a final before they could win one. We all did. You've lost yours now.
