Captain. You hit the nail on the head. You had some "unhappy campers" in a Provincial Cup final? That's the difference between being a championship team and being just a good team. If a player is more concerned with her playing time in Cup play than she is the Cup itself, then they're holding the team back. That's harsh. But true. Players shouldn't be happy to sit out, ever. But they also have to put the team first.

I believe that why Surrey is on the run they are on. As a group, they are committed to winning. And they've had a core that's been together for so long that new players just buy in (or else move out). Burnaby Canadians had the same thing going, albeit for a much shorter run. UBC's commitment was the same for their five year run.

It takes a special group of special players to make that kind of commitment and sacrifice, but it's possible. You - as coach - just have to sell it. And you've got to have a leadership group to back you up.

Remember though Surrey had to lose a final before they could win one. We all did. You've lost yours now.

FB, you couldn't be more right. As one who came to SU in the last few years, I've watched the team go through all the training and game play and i'm still amazed at the level of team committment they show as a group. We do have players that see limited time on the field but these same players do get in at some point in the season. We have always had short benches for the first few months after getting through nationals and all the girls College and University seasons. That is when most of our long bench gets used extensively. We always let our junior players have first dibs when we get to play exibition and requests from teams like the Whitecap girls. This happens throughout our season. Everyone gets injured at some point as well and these same girls have been instramental in keeping this and past seasons on a winning note. We have high praise for them as they in turn let us field our best possible group as we wind up our Cup and provincial play. We could not have half the success we have had if not for this fantastic group of players. They deserved this win as much as the starting 11 this weekend.......
