I think 2nd div team would beat their prem and div 1 team any day. Would be interesting to see all three rino teams competing in div. 1.

They would have a better chance to get promoted back to prem.

Are we talking football matches or boat races? Because it's been proven year after year that the Div 2 team will always win the boat races!

Think that Burnaby team has been taken over from another team and management alot of youth and skill in the team now and will prove a stern test for the remainder of the season.

Hurricanes 3 - 1 Greencaps - Weird one, was difficult to feel too disappointed after the game as we'd created plenty but their keeper had an absolute blinder and just pulled off save after save, particularly in the 2nd half. If it was Football Manager he'd have had a 10 and i'd have been convincing myself that i was justified in quitting the game without saving and playing the game again.

2A continues to excite with some more interesting results this week. At this standard, usually you can pretty much accurately predict most results each week, especially after half the season. Yet we've had teams at the bottom beating the top and each game appears to have the chance of going either way, so hats off to all teams in the league so far for contributing to that.

You'd probably say there are still 4 teams in it for first but with GN not wining in 4, Snipers losing their last 2 it's almost as if any of the top 6 can finally put a winning streak together to the end of the season that they could sneak it, should be an interesting run in. I'm hoping Campo pull it off though, simply so I can have a break from his nauseating verbal diarrhea for a year :)

Astro 0-2 Campo

Campo are a technically impressive team who have a real shot at winning the division. Put together some great moves and deserved their win. Astro couldn't convert a period of pressure either side of half-time into a goal, so can't complain with the result

Quite galling to have one of their players chide our guys (on the field) over our "lack of finesse" because he had the cheek to put in a strong tackle - This holier-than-thou attitude is extremely unappealing and I echo the above post hoping they get promoted so we don't have to listen to this drivel any longer

Astro 0 - 2 Campos
or A rivalry makes a competitive match.

On a sunny but cold afternoon, Campo Atletico and Astro met to settle a brewing and growing rivalry.
Astro players fought very hard and intensively, but their efforts were no match to a well organized Campo team who displayed a good treatment of the ball.

The first goal came within the first three minutes of play. A nice combination between three midfielders that were timed with distracting runs from the forwards completely confused the Astro back line. An ocean of space appeared between the two centre backs, and through pass was easily converted by the forward. It seemed too easy of a goal. Complete silence fell upon Astro's bench.

Campo dominated possession for the next 30 minutes and created two more clear goal scoring opportunities, but the ball went wide or was saved very well by the keeper.

Towards the last few minutes of the first half, Campo players needed a bit of break, and retreat and lowered the tempo of the play. Astro became more active and the game was leveled. Astro was not giving up and almost scored to goals from a long ball and a corner. The ball was saved on the line and the second time our keeper made a miracle save.

Campo made several substitutions. The fresh legs made the difference. Control of the game was regained, and Astro back line greatly suffered with each attack. Eventually they were beaten. One of the forwards went by two Astro defenders on the touch line, then proceed to pass the ball to the other forward who shaked off the centre back and then approached the keeper. He sent the keeper to the left and then calmly tap the ball to the right of the net. Four Astro players were on the ground after those dribles.

Kudos to Astro for not giving up and playing with effort. This time they had a very decent team. One of the best teams in the division, perhaps the results do not reflect their quality.

The only issue for us is that after the second goal Astro resorted to frequent fouling (about 15 in 10 minutes and some were completely unnecessary including late body checking into our short and light forwards).

Huge Win for Vancouver Strikers in 2B against the top of the group Rino's Fury. Assuming they get 3 points from their game in hand they will be only 3 points behind the leaders. It will be a very interesting race to follow in both groups during the remaining last third of the season for the promotion and relegation spots.

Obviously Soccer coach has us pretty focused on 2A here but over in 2B Strikers inability to find the net vs bottom of the league Bombastic has essentially undone all the good work they did beating Rinos before Xmas.

What in the actual f*ck does Riquelme have to do with Campo vs. Astro?! You are one strange fella.

A lot more than what you think, my friend, a lot more than what you think...this is for you to figure out... if you were at the game, it might be more evident for you to see.

Sounds great, shame I missed it!

Also glad to see the Astro playmaker finally getting the plaudits his play deserves, drawing similarities to Riquelme in this case. For once I agree with you Soccer Coach.

Obviously Soccer coach has us pretty focused on 2A here but over in 2B Strikers inability to find the net vs bottom of the league Bombastic has essentially undone all the good work they did beating Rinos before Xmas.

The outcome of Division 2B has become a foregone conclusion many weeks ago. Rino's Fury and Strikers have clearly dominated the rest. In addition, Rino's Fury has been the most consistent of the two. It is almost certain that Rino will get promoted. There are 10 points between the first and third place, and 19 points between the first place and the fourth place.

Division 2A is extremely close. There are 5 teams within 3 points of the leader (adjusting for the missing game), and even the 6th placed team can mathematically still get promotion. GN, Snipers, Norvan, Campo, Meraloma are all within promotion range. Even the Greencaps mathematically can still get promoted if they win all their games, and the other teams tie each other (unlikely but possible). To make things harder the medium and bottom teams are not weak or easy. Tanoa (has Premier players), Astro and Burnaby (re-built) are competitive, and Richmond and Punjabs can take top teams down on a good day.

Punjab Hurricanes 3 - 1 Vancouver Greencaps Holly Park Turf - LAD 8:00 pm
A painful defeat for the ever hopeful Greencaps. After all the expectations at the beginning of the season, the men in Green have underperformed by several times dropping points in a shocking manner to the bottom teams. This win might save the Punjabs from relegation.

Rich FC Olympics 2 - 2 GN Sporting Club Minoru Park 3 Turf - RICH 9:00 pm
A dramatic tie in the dying moments of the game has complicated matters for GN. Richmond did not give up and kept fighting under overwhelming pressure from the first place team. With this tie, GN gives up the leading position. They were 8 points ahead of everyone, and they squandered it.

Snipers FC A 0 - 2 Meraloma FC A Point Grey Turf - VAN 4:00 pm
This not a surprising result. Meraloma has been quietly catching up to the leaders. They have the most goals scored in the division. Perhaps their play is a bit too direct, but it can give very good results at this level. They still can get promoted.

Astro FC 0 - 2 Campo Atletico Jericho Turf - VAN 4:00 pm
A good performance by Astro, but a better performance by Campo. Both teams have improved over the season. Astro can not get promoted, but might be able to steal points from GN and Snipers.

Twin Arrows 2 - 0 Tanoa FC Empire Turf North - VAN 2:00 pm
Another embarrassing defeat to the team with the Premier players.

Bby Selects W Eagles A 0 - 3 NVFC Viking Storm A
It seems that Norvan is in full force again after a temporary deep in performance. Burnaby is no longer the easy team from the start of the season.

It is going to be a really interesting end of the season, with 6 teams competing for promotion.

Norvan Viking Storm 3 - Greencaps 1
An unfortunate game for the men in the Green uniform. In my opinion, they played better and had the more creative and skilled team. However, their defensive backline failed them miserably. Infantile errors gave Norvan a 3-0 lead in the first 30 minutes of play. Norvan could have increased the lead to 4-0 with a failed penalty.

Greencaps discounted with a very nice individual play. One of their players dribbled past the two holding midfielders and then pass the center back. The center back ended up on the ground because of the nice rolled over move. Then he proceeded to tap the ball on the right bottom corner with composure. A really nice play to witness.

It seems that Norvan got a couple of reinforcements since the last time that I saw them. Overall, their defensive line was very solid. They did not create many opportunities. However, when they attacked they put the ball on the net well with quick transitions, long throw ins and long balls. I am not sure if they would do well in Division 1, but certainly in Division 2 this approach is very effective for them.

Greencaps are mathematically eliminated from promotion. Even if they win all the games any of the 5 teams above them would surpass them with combination of results. After the recent collapse of GN and Snipers, it seems that favourites once again have become Norvan.

I would tend to think that the Greencaps play more attractive and interesting football, but Norvan is more effective at finishing.

Campo Atletico 3 - Snipers 0
or
Attacking is the best form of Defending

George Washington once wrote: " offensive operations, often times, is the surest, if not the only (in some cases) means of defence", and sometimes this apply equally to football.

Burnaby Lake Turf on a sunny afternoon with clear skies. The Snipers arrive to the home of Campo Atletico to continue their quest for promotion. Little did they know that Campo players would unequivocally crush their hopes in a rather overwhelming manner.

Campo players are veterans and no strange to competition. Both teams had to warn up side by side within a few steps of each other. We could see in their faces and voices their nervousness and insecurity. They are even hastily discussing their tactics and formations right in front of us. Our thoughts are either, they are quite clever and are trying to mislead us, or they are incredible naive and inexperienced. We go for the later option, and the Snipers pay it dearly.

The whistle blows and Campo players charge furiously towards the Snipers. They are in shock. They can not put two passes together and most of the time they are just chasing the ball. One of our players in the bench keeps track of the time and notes that the Snipers can not cross the midfield line with the ball for periods of 5 minutes of more. They have been forced to retreat.

This is not the way is supposed to be. A team contending for promotion can not be so easily caged. They start to change positions on the go attempting to balance the game, but it only gets worse. After many shots on goal and bringing the ball to danger areas, one of them ends up on the net. A penetrating pass to the forward gets intercepted by the centre back, but the ball goes up in the air and starts to come down right in front of the forward who volleys into the net.

The Snipers try to wake up from their shock. They push hard for about 5 minutes. Only one free kick is of relatively danger, but Campos goalkeeper saves it well. Everything else is quickly dealt by the experienced Campo defenders, and the game goes back to be controlled by Campo.

Frustration starts to grow among the Sniper players and bench. They start to resort to fouling to disrupt Campo's play. A free kick is given. Everyone is expecting a cross, but our player sees the keeper out of position. He kicks the ball hard and it goes right into the top right corner.

A third goal follows from a quick counterattack. The winger outruns his marker and crosses it on the ground to find the free running forward. Easy goal.

The Snipers inexperience shows. A stupid but brutal tackle. The referee shows the red card without hesitation. Even some of the players come to apologize for the tackle, which is nice of them. There is no need to humiliate the young lads. We thought of pressing for a 5-0, but decided to simply keeping passing the ball back and forth in the back until the final whistle. They were barely pressing as it was a done deal with only 10 players.

Personally, I was a bit disappointed with the performance of the Snipers. I was very impressed with their skill and speed in the last game, but for this game nothing significant showed. Astro or the Punjabs gave us more challenge. Perhaps it is just that indeed attack is the best form of defence.

I really thought that they would get promoted, but I do not think that this will be the case. They have good players, but perhaps they do not perform as well under pressure.

Day 17th of competition has 5 teams within the reach of promotion (Norvan, GN, Snipers, Meraloma, and Campo). Greencaps lost and are eliminated from reaching the first place. This is a very close race. The standings adjusted for the missing games would be:
1st and 2nd Norvan and Campo with 35 points.
3rth and 4th Snipers and GN with 33 points.
5th Meraloma with 32 points.

We have 5 teams within a win/loss differential with 18 points to go. It is really too close to call. Even Meraloma could become the winner of the league.

GN Sporting Club 2 - 2 Astro FC Newton Athl 4 Turf - SRY 8:45 pm
GN is in decline. The 5th consecutive game without a win. Astro continues to confirm that the can give a good fight even to the top teams in the league.

Tanoa FC 0 - 1 Rich FC Olympics Andy Livingstone E Turf - VAN 2:00 pm
Tanoa is in the last place. It is romantic poetic justice. The team that pays players and brings Premier players might end up relegated. A lesson that only coin does not make a team.

Meraloma FC A 6 - 0 Bby Selects W Eagles A Empire Turf South - VAN 2:00 pm Revised Jan 12
Meraloma is the most lethal of all the teams so far scoring the most goals in the competition with 42. Burnaby Selects continue to be the most inconsistent with great wins followed by horrible defeats.

Campo Atletico 3 - 0 Snipers FC A Bby Lake West 2 Turf - BBY 4:00 pm
Snipers is another team that squandered a comfortable lead. Three consecutive losses are indicating that they are not ready for promotion. Will they recover from the crushing and demoralizing defeat?

win Arrows 2 - 1 Punjab Hurricanes Empire Turf North - VAN 2:00 pm Revised Dec 20
With the addition of new players and improving play, The Twin Arrows have obtained 10 points out of 12 possible in the last 4 games. Very good come back for them. They are not an easy team anymore.

NVFC Viking Storm A 3 - 1 Vancouver Greencaps Sutherland HS Turf - NVAN 5:00 pm
A game that shows that playing better might not lead to a win. Greencaps played well, but defensive errors cost them promotion. Norvan regains the lead that they lost 10 fixtures ago. Not a flashy team, but solid and effective. Perhaps the strongest position for promotion at this time.

What are your predictions of relegation/promotion?

Campo have emerged as favourites for promotion. They have the easiest schedule of any team mathematically in the race. Only two of their 7 remaining games are against top five opponents. At this point it would be considered a massive disappointment and failure if they were to not win the division.

It would be nice to see Tanoa be relegated.
