The final 2009 rankings will be out fairly soon. But, here is a look at the first rankings of 2009, which came out last January:

I think the first ranking of this season would be a bit more relevant. Who are these Surrey Rangers of the FVSL you speak of?

Point taken Sliver, here are the first rankings of this season from September. WTF are New Amsterdam Football Club (#20)?

Sir M's Excellent Power Rankings, 2009-2010:

1. West Van FC (VMSL). This team is out of the blocks at 2-0-0 in the VMSL and top of the table thus far. It is a team with 9 new players.

2. Surrey Utd (VMSL). They are on four points thus far, have added several quality players, and are managed by one of the most storied coaches in Masters Football.

3. Delta United (FVSL). This side was the cream of the FVSL last year, and have a 2-0-0 start this season.

4. Columbus FC (VMSL). BC Champs, and are used to coming out of the gate a bit slowly.

5. Peace Arch FC (FVSL). Staff have little information about this team, other than they whine a bit. 2 wins thus far though.

6. West Side (VMSL). Always a force, and staff have no reason this year to deviate from that opinion. Great fanatic base.

7. South Delta (FVSL). This is a new club, but already with two wins under their (ample) belt.

8. Mission FC Blues (FVSL). Les Bleus have had an impressive start over there in Mission. Of course drag racing season has not started yet.

9. Metro Ford FF (VMSL). This team has taken full advantage of dodging a demotion bullet last year, and have opened their VMSL with a win and a tie.

10. Port Coquitlam Castilians (FVSL). Another newcomer to FVSL Masters, and they also have two wins thus far.

11. Cliff Avenue United (VMSL). This team has added players, and are very competetive this year. They have the most likable manager in Masters football, staff report.

12. Peace Arch United (FVSL). Another Peace Arch team vying for SMEPR supremacy.

13. Sapperton Rovers (VMSL). Sapperton has had a bad start to this season.

14. Richmond Utd (VMSL). Richmond certainly caught staffs attention with their away tie out at CAP last Sunday.

15. Wickham FC (VMSL). This newly promoted side had a great result last weekend: they will always give opponents an honest game.

16. Langley United (FVSL). The all blacks are always tough to beat over in the FVSL.

17. Aldergrove FC (FVSL). Ditto. Plus this is a side with a considerable expertise in animal husbandry.

18. PCOV (VMSL). On paper, this side should be top five in these rankings. But back to back losses drop them way down.

19. North Delta Alumni (FVSL). There were some high expectations for this team. They have yet to deliver. Lots of room to move up in these rankings.

20. New Amsterdam Football Club (NSCL). This side will heretofore be be referred to as "NAFC" by staff, but they have had a great start over in the NSCL.

Sorry for the wait.

OK, now that is over, staff would like to wish all of the Sir M's Excellent Power Rankings supporters out there a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. And do not eat and drink (RF, Scotty) too much, and take it easy on the National Lampoon movies. Here we go then with the final 2009 edition of:

Sir M's Excellent Power Rankings 2009-2010

1. West Van FC (VMSL). Last week's rank: 2. West Van had three more shutouts over the last couple of weeks: a 0-0 tie against SU, a 4-0 win over Columbus, and Dickens after arriving home at the breakfast hour last Saturday morning. Currently first place in VMSL.

2. Sapperton Rovers (VMSL). Last week's rank: 5. Sapperton won both of their games since the last rankings, defeating Cliff Avenue and PCOV in the process. Currently 2nd place in VMSL.

3. Columbus FC (VMSL). Last rank: 1. Columbus drop after an emphatic win over Richmond followed by a shutout loss against West Van. 4th place in the VMSL at the break.

4. Port Coquitlam Castillians (FVSL). Last week's rank: 3. Another recent tie against an upper echelon FVSL side (South Delta at home), followed by a beating of a lower half side drops these guys one spot. Currently 2nd place in the FVSL.

5. Delta United (FVSL). Last week's rank: 6. Delta are proving to be a very formidable side in the FVSL again this year. They are in first place going into the break.

6. Peace Arch FC (FVSL). Last week's rank: 11. This team followed up an idle week with a convincing 4-1 win over NDAU. 3rd place in the FVSL at the moment, and should battle for a BCs spot.

7. Richmond United (VMSL). Last week's rank: 4. Richmond had a 4-1 loss against Columbus, but followed it up with a 4-0 win over Metro Ford FF. Third place in the VMSL at present.

8. South Delta United (FVSL). Last week's rank: 9. This team moves up after their tie against Port Coquitlam, followed by an idle week. 4th place in the FVSL.

9. Surrey United (VMSL). Last week's rank: 7. SU are struggling with consistency, following up a tough tie at West Van with a home loss to Cliff Avenue. Currently 8th place in the VMSL.

10. Wickham FC (VMSL). Last week's rank: 12. Wickham are back in the top ten after a narrow loss to PCOV followed by a win out at UBC over Westside. Currently 6th in the VMSL.

11. Portuguese Club of Vancouver (VMSL). Last week's rank: 8. PCOV beat Cliff Avenue, but were then beaten by their Sapperton friends. Currently 5th place in the VMSL.

12. Cliff Avenue United (VMSL). Last week's rank: 14. Cliff has life. They dropped a close one to PCOV, but followed that up with a 2-0 win over Surrey United. 9th spot in the VMSL at present.

13. Westside (VMSL). Last week's rank: 10. This team is a tough one to figure out. Their recent home loss to Wickham drops them three spots. 7th place in the VMSL at the break.

14. North Delta Alumni United (FVSL). Last week's rank: 13. NDUA are showing that they can beat the lower echelon FVSL teams, but they struggle against the higher half: a win over Peace Arch Rangers followed by a 3 goal loss to PAFC is a recent example. 7th place in the FVSL...long shot for the BCs at this point.

15. Mission FC Blues (FVSL). Last week's rank: 15. Mission holds their spot. 6th place in the FVSL.

16. Peace Arch United (FVSL). Last week's rank 18. PAU moves up again after a win over Aldergrove. 5th place in the FVSL.

17. Nordic FC (NSCL). Last week's rank: 19. This team is in first place in the NSCL, and is undefeated this season. A lock for the BCs.

18. Aldergrove United (FVSL). Last week's rank: 17. This team cannot get on any kind of a roll, except of course at the pastoral dinner table. They drop after the loss to PAU. 8th in the FVSL.

19. White Rock United (FVSL). Last week's rank: 16. WRU drop after getting thumped by Port Coquitlam. 9th place in the FVSL.

20. Coveside FC (NSCL). Last week's rank: not ranked. Coveside makes their debut in these rankings this year, and at second place in the NSCL, will almost certainly qualify for the BCs.

So there you have it, all the best to everyone over the holidays!

2. Sapperton Rovers (VMSL). Last week's rank: 5. Sapperton won both of their games since the last rankings, defeating Cliff Avenue and PCOV in the process. Currently 2nd place in FVSL.

So, when will the #4 team (Port Coquitlam Castillians) play Sapperton Rovers?

Just curious.;)

That was a test, and you were the first to pass.

By the way, there is a new Christmas decoration scheme at The Hacienda this year.

Merry Christmas!

Finallly. I was about to give up on this thread. Anyways - I think 1st through 5th are accurate. After that it's a mess. PCOV is 5th in the VMSL and would kick the shite out of most FVSL teams yet they get an 11th place ranking. Is Coach sucking off Sir M or what? Surrey United is a dismal 8th place with an embarrassing 15 points after 13 games and they are 9th in the rankings ahead of PCOV and Wickham.

Overall the FVSL rankings are highly inflated as most teams couldn't compete with the top 6 or 7 teams in the VMSL. These rankings are the most inaccurate that I have seen to date. I am surprised it took so long for them to come out.

I predict there to be a new breed of power rankings in the near future after a disappointing end to Sir M's 2009 season.
