Need your hockey fix?

Wonder how the season would have ended if there really was an NHL season this year?

Courtesy of EASports and NHL2005:

EASports NHL2005 simulated hockey season

Sure, all of us hockey fans are missing the regular season these days, and it may be a while longer before the Coolest Game On Ice returns to normalcy. We can still enjoy some hockey action, though, thanks to NHL® 2005 -- and in fact, we can take a look at what might have happened if the season had played out in its entirety.

We simulated the entire 2004-2005 season using NHL 2005 on the PlayStation®2 console, letting the computer do all the work. From the first game through the playoffs, we were able to look at how the season might have gone if there had actually been some real hockey going on. If you're looking for a fix to your hockey jones, check out our Virtual Season final standings, playoff results, and major award winners below.

TORONTO (CP) - The NHL Players' Association will pay out between $29 million and $44 million US in lockout pay this season.
The payments will start this month with more than 730 players getting $10,000 each for November and another $10,000 for December, The Canadian Press has learned. Subsequent monthly payments will vary between $5,000 or $10,000. The NHLPA refused to detail the payment schedule but said the "initial" plan will cover the next 24 months.

Those numbers would work out to a minimum of $40,000 and maximum of $60,000 per player through April, although the maximum would likely not be reached.

That translates into a total of between $29.2 million and $43.8 million through April. Over 24 months, it would be a low of $94.9 million and a high of $175.2 million (from $130,000 to $240,000 per player).

The money comes from a pool saved up over the years from union dues and licensing fees, among other sources.

Way to get public opinion on your side idiots. Real sympathetic looking gesture.

This thing ain't going to end anytime soon.

OK by me as I have found lots of other things to do instead of cheering on the Canucks.

What does public opinion have to do with strike pay? These guys pay uniion dues, just like I do incase I go on strike. That is what the money is for. Their warchest just happens to be a little bigger than Cupe Local 23's. Not much though. ;)

I do agree though. I'm not missing hockey at all. I got my GM Place fix last night at Monsters Inc. on ice. AKA - MILF Fest. :D

Public opinion has nothing to do with strike pay. Why announce what you are paying out to the public. This lockout is all about public opinion. If the players get the public on their side the owners will have to move or be in troublw when it finally ends.

If either side cared about "public opinion" this would be over by now.

You announce what you are paying to the players, and more important that the money will be payed over 24 months, to send to the NHL owners the message that you are serious about your stance, and are willing to live only on Strike Pay, which is in fact very small compared to the players normal 2 week pay. This whole thing is a joke, you have NHL owners out there selling half of the team (Canucks) during this thing, but you are trying to tell everyone that the league can't survive with these high salaries. Come on, who goes and spends 120 million on half a team, if the league is going to shitt.

Then the players make me sick, when they go over to Europe and take over 200 jobs from guys in Europe, who are making a fraction of what the players make in the NHL. These NHL players are going over there just to stay in shape. Both sides make me sick, and it may take me some time to start supporting the NHL again, plus I am still unable to get into GM Place for any Nucks games  .

I was listening to Adrian Aucoin on the radio yesterday, and I thought it was an interesting interview. His perspective seemed to be that the owners wanted a guarantee that they would make money, and that the players should not be forced to bear the burden so that the owners can maximize profits. He also mentioned that they had started taking the squeaky wheels aside and suggested that we wouldnt be hearing from them again. This shows me how fcuking out of touch the players are, and Im starting to think they arent playing next season either.
In the war of propaganda, the Owners have won me over. It seems entirely reasonable to me to link salaries to revenues. The more the teams make, the more everyone makes.
They are ultimately billionaires fighting with millionaires over a kids game. Im watching NFL and fcuk them all, and Im saving money by not paying $7.50 for crappy draft at GM place

They should tear up every single player's contract and bring in replacement players.

Bring in players from the minors and from Europe. Christ, all of these dickhead NHLers have taken jobs over there and bumped Europeans.

THIS THING IS A HUGE EMBARASSMENT FOR HOCKEY AND FOR PRO SPORTS IN GENERAL.

Hammerhead,

I'm in agreement that there won't be hockey next season either though can't say I'm 100% onside with the owners.

I'm gonna pull an RF and say I can see merits in both sides' view :D

I wish that I could make as much playing Soccer as these $^%#%&*^ Hockey Players! Of course, I play soccer for beer and fun... :bronco:

Seriously... I am not on the side of the players or the owners. The players make too much money. Most of the owners are using NHL teams as an Income Tax write-off. I hope that the NHL players and owners go bankrupt. Then, they can re-write the salary and rules of hockey and only allow serious owners and players to be involved in the game. If the players want to play professional hockey, they should be willing to play for much less. Then, game tickets could be dropped down to a much more reasonable price.

Whatever happened to the days when a hockey player had to go to school for a second career? Ken Dryden (goalie for Montreal Canadians) became a lawyer. Bobby Orr also has a second career. I hate this garbage of a professional player retiring set-for-life and nearly going to jail like OJ Simpson!

In closing, hockey can go to hell!

Lindros took a couple of psych courses at Western during the last lockout. Does that count?
