a mighty duck

Has anyone come across a mighty duck?

They should use the colours of the Anas platyrhynchos platyrhynchos.

Otherwise known as Mallard duck.
Mallard Brown.

The Colorado Avalanche lost star winger Paul Kariya to a wrist injury and completed a significant trade today, acquiring Steve Konowalchuk from the Washington Capitals in exchange for winger Bates Battaglia and prospect Jonas Johansson.
That'll hurt some poolers.

Jason Allison

Any word on his recovery?

I know he is recovering from whiplash/concussions....but, any word on his progress?

I took a chance on him in the late rounds of a hockey pool....

Fight night

How about those fights in the Detroit - Nashville game ? Fcuking brilliant ! Good to see Maltby take a few from Walker after the typical punch to the face when the guy was not looking - damn linesman should have just let Walker go to town on the cheap prick. Who gives a crap about lower scoring if the fighting keeps up at this level.....

Berard signs with Blackhawks

TSN.ca Staff

10/31/2003
Unrestricted free agent Bryan Berard has signed a one-year, $2.01 million US contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Berard became an unrestricted free agent after the Boston Bruins refused to meet the salary of $2.51 million US decided by an arbitrator in the summer. Any team making Berard an offer must make it at least 80 per cent of the arbitrated figure or the Bruins would have the right to match.

Other teams that had expressed interest in Berard included the Vancouver Canucks, Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues.

Last season, Berard scored 10 goals and added 28 assists for 38 points.

Total goal scoring in the league year to date as opposed to the individual game....glad to be of assistance.....

Sure would be nice if they dumped the instigator and we started seeing 2-3 fights per game

Perhaps if you were a little more clear the first time we wouldn't have to jump to our own conclusions on what you meant... glad to be of assistance.

Nice try on the 'we' part...you're on your own, but anyways......my apologies for not understanding that you have completely missed all the sports shows and newspapers that have been discussing their concerns with the even lower totals in scoring in the NHL this season. I was not aware that TTP was your only source for information on this topic, and in review, do see how someone like you (and only you) in your unique position would interpret my statement as you originally did. Its been duly noted and I will try to post future comments with an eye to helping those (you) who would be first time consumers of the 'news'....glad to be of future assistance.

That's I all anyone (me) can ask. Your assistance has been greatly appreciated. Speaking of assistance, do you still need help finding NTG keys? I'm free this weekend.

When did this happen?

Zetterberg out four to six weeks with broken leg

November 4, 2003
DETROIT (AP) -- Red Wings defenseman Henrick Zetterberg is expected to miss four to six weeks with a broken right leg.

Zetterberg was injured in a 5-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Monday. He has two goals and five assists in 12 games this season.

Last season, Zetterberg led all rookies with 22 goals and 44 points. He was selected to the league's all-rookie team and was a runner-up for the Calder Trophy, given to the NHL's rookie of the year.

Stumpy a Red Wing

CBS Sportsline just reported that Steve Thomas signed a 1 year 1 million deal with the Red Wings. That should help bring their average age up!

They threw in a bottle of oxygen as the signing bonus.

Oates is an Oiler

The Edmonton Oilers have announced 41- year-old free agent centre Adam Oates has agreed to a one-year contract.

General Manager Kevin Lowe says the decision to sign Oates came after it was determined that centre Marty Reasoner would be lost to the team for up to a month with injuries to both his ankle and his knee. Oates played last season with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, helping them to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. He turned pro in 1985-86 with Detroit following a brilliant U.S. college career. The 5’11” 190 pound native of Weston, Ontario then went on to play for five other NHL teams, over 17 seasons. He has played in 1277 regular season games, and has a total of 1402 points, including 1063 assists. Only five other players have more assists than Oates. Their names are Gretzky, Francis, Bourque, Messier and Coffey.

Lowe says the six-time All-Star centre should be a perfect fit with the Oilers, as he will add several dimensions to the attack. In Lowe’s words, “Adam is a world-class passer, and is one of the best face off specialists in the history of the game. He has won nearly 58% of his face-offs since the statistic was introduced. This is a rare opportunity for us to acquire one of the best offensive talents in the history of the game, and we look forward to seeing him in an Oilers jersey.”

Oates has maintained his fitness level with intensive off-ice workouts since the end of last season and is excited about getting back on the ice. He says; “I haven’t been able to get much ice time of course, but I don’t think it will take me too long to get back to game shape. This is very exciting, being part of a team, which plays with so much offensive flair. It fits my game perfectly.”

Boy did they need a center!:D

The one-year deal is worth $2-million, Sportsnet has learned. It also includes incentives which could net Oates an additional $150,000 if the Oilers make the playoffs this season.

Not bad since they made it last year.

WHA ANNOUNCES LEAGUE / OWNERSHIP GROUP GATHERING IN TORONTO, CANADA

World Hockey Association Co-Founders Allan Howell and Dr. Nick Vaccaro have announced the league will host winter meetings in Toronto, Ontario on December 9th and 10th, 2003.

The meetings, to be held at the SkyDome Hotel, will bring together 15 or more potential ownership groups for organizational meetings. The WHA will launch its first season since 1978 in the fall of 2004.

“We have made significant progress in a number of cities in both Canada and the United States”, said Howell. “This will be an excellent opportunity to formulate our plans for next season”.

WHA Commissioner, Bobby Hull, will host an informal reception on the evening of December 9th at the SkyDome Hotel.

Attendance will be by invitation only. Commissioner Hull, Co-Founders Howell and Vaccaro and President, Hockey Operations, Peter Young will meet with the media following the meetings on December 10th.

In preparation for a lockout? I was reading that Roenick and Hull both may play for the new WHA if there is an NHL lockout.

For now

They may switch to the WHA when the strike comes, and most likely not at their current salaries, but what happens when the NHL settles their strike? I doubt any of the NHL playes who have switched over would stay there at a fraction of thier salary.

Not only that but i would bet most clubs put a clause in the players contracts that says they cannot play in another league while signed to a contract with an NHL team.

No?

makes sense to me, but will those clauses be valid if they are locked out?
Ive heard of a few others talking about playing in Europe ( eg Jagr ), so they must be able to.

I gyuess it depends on whether they are still being paid or not by their NHL teams.
