Zenga,

Did you ever hear of this guy while he was at Ternana? It looks like Blackburn got suckered big time by you scum wops?

Italian Serie B club Messina said on Wednesday they have signed Blackburn Rovers striker Corrado Grabbi on loan.

Italian Grabbi only joined the Premiership club for £6.75million in the summer but he has failed to make a positive impact for Graeme Souness' side - scoring just twice.

The 26-year-old had fallen down the pecking order at Ewood Park after the arrival of England striker Andy Cole from Manchester United.

Grabbi, who was top scorer in Serie B last season with 20 goals for Ternana, had been in talks with Napoli about a possible loan switch and had even been interviewed in the Italian media expressing his delight at such a move.

Italian legend Baggio retires

MILAN (Reuters) - Italian striker Roberto Baggio has retired after undergoing a knee operation on Monday for a serious injury he sustained last week, his agent has revealed.

The 34-year-old Brescia player was pushing for a place in the Italian squad at this summer's World Cup after a good start to the season but the reconstruction surgery looks to have sidelined him for at least five months.

Baggio's agent Vittorio Petrone was quoted on the BBC website as saying: 'We were hoping for a different outcome right from the beginning of the medical tests but now Roberto wants to quit football. He wants to change his lifestyle.'

'We will try to change his mind. Personally, I have one more dream - to see him return to the football field,' he added.

'Even if he has missed his chance with the World Cup, he deserves to return to playing.'

Baggio was stretchered off with an injured left knee after coming on as a substitute during Brescia's Italian Cup semifinal match at Parma on Thursday.

It was only his second game back after three months out with an injury to the same knee.

Baggio played in the last three World Cups, making his mark on the 1990 tournament in Italy with a fine individual strike against Czechoslovakia before leading the Azzurri to third place.

Juventus on Top

Juve holds a one point lead over Roma with Inter holding on to the third spot. Bologna, Brescia and AC Milan battling for the final spot in Europe. Notto sure how many games left but it should be a very close finish.

Zenga, have you faded away like Inter or what?;)

Cut imports, Italian clubs urged

ROME, March 4 (Reuters) - Italian clubs have been urged to reduce their contingent of foreign players by the Italian Footballers Association (AIC) - a suggestion which has also been made by national coach Giovanni Trapattoni.
The majority of Serie A and Serie B teams have large numbers of foreign players and there is no ban on the amount of non-EU players they can field following legislation last year.

"At a time when Italian clubs want to reduce the size of their squads to 25," said AIC president Sergio Campana, quoted by Italian news agency ANSA, "it our idea is that six players in each team should be Italian and we think that two thirds of registered players should be Italian."

There are 341 foreign footballers in Serie A and B this season, compared to 66 during the 1995-96 season - the year of the Bosman ruling - and Campana wants to introduce a quota of Italian players in each team.

The data, supplied by AIC, at a meeting in Milan on Monday underlines the massive rise in foreign players in Italy.

"We must know the wishes of clubs but we already know the principal arguments will be flexibility with the compensation to reach sporting objectives," Campana added.

"The presence of non-EU players from the youth teams to trainees is dramatic. There are teams in which the presence of Italians is a minority."

Italian clubs were banned from having foreign players following a poor showing in the 1966 World Cup although this was rescinded at the start of the 1980-81 season to one foreign player per squad.

Italy coach Trapattoni has also suggested a reduction in the number of foreign players in a bid to make the national team more competitive.

Torino fielded an all-Italian side when they drew with Juventus last weekend and Piacenza had a policy of fielding just Italians when they were in Serie A two seasons ago, although the club were relegated.

The foreign players are just about all that make the Serie A worth watching nowadays...

OK, Zenga. You can come back now. I know you have an oppinion on this and, suprisingly, I actually want to hear it.

Im glad that I have been missed but in all honesty there are too many non wops in the Serie you look at Lazio and Inter for that sake that have maybe 3 or 4 wops on the field its really too bad but with the EU it cant be really stopped. Oh well, and it has affected the Italian National team when the Italian players are not playing, but it seems the problem is fixed after we pissed on England in England but they will get over it.

I forgot guys who is first in the Serie A?

Bahamas is great guys wish you were here.

Ciao.

What a great way to start the day...checked the Highlights and saw Juve win the Scudetto. They have been in top form for awhile and have played some good domestic soccer and it was only time before Inter shite-the-bed.

It's also good to see Chievo get a spot in Europe next year, they have had a great season and deserve the Eufa cup spot.
