the biggest joke is he will still get paid while being off from a "ball hockey" injury

It could of just as easily happened training in the gym, running lines, sprints etc. These are freak injuries that can happen to absolutly anybody and come without warning. it's called cross training and lots of athletes do it. Maybe a bit hard on the body and not the best idea for cross training but ragging on a guy for tearing his achilles is ignorance. The poor guys career could be and is most likely finished.

Mason Raymond just avoided arbitration, signed 2 years at $2.55M per. A good deal, if he keeps it up he'll be quite the bargain.

So how much are the Nucks over the cap limit now? Hopefully dumping Biecksa's salary is enough on it's own.

They are over, in theory, with 25 guys signed for a total of 63.123 (as per nhlnumbers.com ). That doesn't take into consideration Jordan Schroeder and Cody Hodgson...

There is a cool little tool you can use at cap geek dot com... CapGeek.com - NHL salary cap calculator, buyout calculator, free agents and more!

Anyways, here is what it spits out (With Salo out on LTIR) and remember that Burrows is going to start the season on the shelf, so if everything stays the same here is what you have carrying two extra forwards to start the year, 7 Defensemen, and Tugboat Alberts in the minors...

CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

gotcha ;)

Bieksa, imho, will be staying put now, as Salo is on LTIR as of camp (most likely) This buys them time to trade him and makes his value worth more as the Nucks don't need to trade him right away, they can sit on him until a good deal comes along... say Bieksa to ATL for Ladd and 4th rounder or some other futures based on contract terms and extensions for both players etc... (I know this is Pratt's jihad of late, so don't crucify me for this idea, I just like it, as Ladd has won two cups, is young, and would be a great power forward type that Bernier never developed into)

anyways, trade Bieksa for Ladd's rights give him 2.8 per and then...

Don't forget that Laddy is a local kid too (from the 'Ridge) and could be enticed by the numerous sponsorship deals he could get here versus Shitlanta. I would be very happy if we could land him and maybe eventually some other BC boys too.

Really? We saw how awful our D was with our main shut-down guy gone. Now we've signifigantly improved our D, and we could potentially add our #2 D-man from last year for next to nothing? Especially with Salo being out till Christmas? Why not? (again, this is provided he's healthy)

1. Our Cap situation is already Dire
2. Adding Hamhuis and Ballard more than makes up for Willie being gone and Salo being on the shelf (hopefully he never comes back)
3. He has no wheels at all, and even though he was our "best shut down guy" he was prone to turnovers and the odd brain cramp (ala Bieksa
4. If they're going to add a DMan on the cheap he had better be a right handed shot, as the entire D Corps right now are left handed except Salo who's out indefinitely and Bieksa who by all accounts is on the trading block

My hope was they'd sign him, he'd play well and then be good trade bait once Salo is healthy again. With Ladd only at $2.35M his contract would be more than manageable with the right d-man going the other way.

Stall, Mitchell would not sign a new deal here, for one year, on a reduced ticket, without an NTC... and getting him to waive an NTC is something Gillis has said he won't do/ask his players... as it ruins relationships and paints a grim picture of the team to future fa prospective targets

So I just read on the Kurtenblog that the Nucks signed Raffi Torres for 1 year, $1M. I hate Raffi Torres.
