Oilers already sunk....Flames will be fine with Smith. Canucks will finish mid pack again miss the playoffs continue with mediocrity. One day the powers at be will learn.....I get it, it took the Leafs a while as organization to figure it out and now look at them.

They rebuild from the core through signing an effective GM, best coach in the game, top drafts picks and as recent as a few weeks ago were the vegas odds to win the cup.....

Canucks were the favorite to win the cup 2011 and we all know how that went. Maybe win it first then brag.

Hopefully Regs will be smart enough to ban you in the event of a Leafs win.

Nothing moves as usual while other big names moved around. Does nobody want to come to Vancouver? Does nobody want to trade with us? Or both?

We were never going to do much today anyways?

What do we have to give?

All the "big" deals were for older players or if not, the return was picks and that's not something we want to deal away right now.

Yes?

Would have been great to do more but we don't have assets that people want.

The market was soft on Vanek as a pure rental who's over the hill, but he has had a good enough season that we were able to get something for him. Benning said he wanted picks but nobody had them on offer, so we settled for a prospect and ate Jokinen's salary until the end of the season. I just hope we pretty much park the guy in the press box and let the kids play, Jokinen is definitely not part of the long term plans. If the Motte kid pans out then it's a good day at the office. If not, it's nothing ventured, nothing gained. Vanek is a journeyman and seemed to like Vancouver; he said he would be interested in signing here again in the off season if the Sedins come back and I think that might be a good fit, but only if we can clear the rest of the veteran deadweight off the roster.

The Holm deal was actually the one that might be of some substance. The guy is 26 and played his first NHL game in Vegas the other night before evidently getting lost in a casino and left behind there. There are younger guys ahead of him on the depth chart defense wise, so moving him for Leipsic I think is a good move. We get a young, fast forward who has worked with Green before, is on a cheap dollar through next season and would top out as another potential Baertschi.

Would have loved to move Eriksson but he's been brutal and his contract is even worse, as we are stuck with him for five more years. Edler is another who could have potentially netted a return, especially when you see what New York got for McDonagh and how hot the market was for Karlsson and the asking price for Mike Green in Detroit. Obviously Edler is not in that stratosphere, but still, there was clearly a premium for defensemen at the deadline, but it was all moot because he refused to waive his no trade last week. We've got too much money tied up in Eriksson, Gagner and Sutter for next season. Got to find a way to move something on (trade/buyout) from that group in the off season.
