He ran for the democratic presidential nomination in 2016 and 2020 and failed both times.

Gavin Newsom is the logical choice.

Technically, yes. He won his seat in the Senate as an independent. I believe his voting record is something like 90% in line with the Dems and he does join their caucus.

Basically if both sides wanted he could pledge allegiance to the party in order to be their presidential nominee. I just don't see it happening.

Did he really? Or did Californians fcuk themselves with 40+ years of tax legislation that has resulted in the highest rates of Corporate and Progressive Personal income tax, the later of which is highly volatile?
