You can trade a guy not pay him but his cap hit allows you to reach minimum.

Funny how Boston dumps cap space and the league says they are trading an asset but lets say hypothetically five years down the road Luongo retires as a Canuck and we trade him to Florida, I wonder what the league would say then.

cant trade a retired player; can trade a suspended one. not sure what the issue is; TT's NTC expired July 31, 2012...

He isnt retired or suspended and his contract is up at the end of this year.

The issue is YOU could sign a contract, agree to sit out not get paid but have your contract still count against the cap.

I think the 15 year descending contract is far more dangerous in terms of cap circumvention than any conspiracy theories you folks could dream up about the Thomas situation. But hey, it warms the cockles of my heart to see he's still in your domes...
