Thanks to the Bear Cubs for lending a hand Saturday... one for playing, one for drinking...

I was told the reason they were not out at Byrne Creek supporting the young guys...aah, never mind, its the bearcubs.

Do I understand that the Open semis and the Masters semis are played the same afternoon in Victoria at two different parks? :(

My prediction: if Sarge is fit, its a Surrey FF Rangers vs Columbus final. If he is not, then UVic and SFC Pegasus Rangers will be in the final.

Zaurinni: no offence, but the cubs ate the sausage out of my bun before they gave it to me, so the old bun with mustard and peppers in it (no sausage) was not the best I ever had.

Sir M.

So, if MF and Firemen are merging, this means we have one less team in Masters-VMSL. Why don't the all-so-powerful FireRangers move over to VMSL and see if they are as good as they really think they are. If they go 16 games in the VMSL and win them all, then hats off to them and they really have something to wag their dicks at. It would make the VMSL all that much better and would really put their claim of superiority to the real test.

What do you say?

<offtopic>Why not have only one team come up from div 1, lose the crappy split schedule and have a 10 team, 18 game schedule for VMSL Masters?</offtopic>

We need to get back to one 10 team division. What unfolded this year with this two sides thing just does not make sense. But to get it back on topic, I think that scheduling the Open semis and the Masters semis at the same time in the same town at two different fields takes away from things. Saturday and then Sunday or split it would have been a lot better, and would have generated more interest.

I am in total agreement. And, if I was the second Div 1 team (or the third with one FF/MF collapsing), I would not really be looking forward to getting thumped every week. I would guess they would prefer to be the big fish in the pond that the fish bate.

Well done to the island teams last weekend.

Prediction - UVic v. Treights in final

lts great seeing all the banter from mainland teams about next year - who's merging...who's golfing...who's poaching from who - not so much talk about 2008 hardware:eek:

TTP - Maybe next years BC spots should reflect this years results to the semis...
VISL - 8 spots
VMSL- 4 spots
FVSL - 4 spots
:D

Yeah Rock that makes sense. Lets see. A team from Port Hardy throw in another from Duncan, etc. You guys would make good use of the eight spots. I wouldn't count on beating the Rangers or even Columbus. When is the last time an island team won it all?

In the Masters competition, an Island team last won the provincials in 2000. Look here:

Senior Provincial Championships > British Columbia Soccer Association > Senior

Masters - Recent Champions
2007 Surrey Rangers
2006 Firefighters FC
2005 SFC Rangers
2004 Surrey United
2003 Columbus
2002 Vancouver Fire Fighters
2001 Vancouver Fire Fighters
2000 Victoria Athletic

In the Open competition, an Island team last won the provincials in 2002. Look on the same page.

Open - Recent Champions
2007 Columbus Clan FC
2006 Sapperton Rovers
2005 Portueguese Sporting Club
2004 Pegasus FC
2003 Surrey United
2002 Victoria Gorge
2001 Victoria Gorge
2000 Westside FC

Late breaking news regarding another merger .... Firefighters and Cracovia have considered joinig forces. This would definitely make for the most interesting name in sports..... FireCrac ... I am sure that Sir M can relate after his mustard and pepper snack last Friday night

That is correct Rock. And the past will repeat itself...that is why most are giving the VMSL teams the nod. Good luck though!

Yep really good predictions there Rock (me thinks you've been in hit in the head by to many rocks)...but stranger things have happened...I mean hey...we won it in 2006 when nobody thought we had a chance. I'll stand by my picks though.:D

Cheers!

It has to be stated, especially in my envious fragile state, that Surrey United won the provincials several times in the early 2000's when we entered in the Over 30's instead of the Over 35's. Finally, all teams went to over 35's and the Over 30's Championship was ceased.

Just incase anyone "forgot".:)
