I would have to say the best team to NEVER win a World Cup was the 1974 Dutch team.......amazing.......Cruyff, Neeskans, Krol, Rep, Rensenbrink......but there have been so many great teams...hard to get it down to one.

Another great team, I agree....I'm going with what I have seen though;)
1978 WC was my first world cup.

For me, there was nothing better than 1982 Brasil.

My longest lasting memory of the '78 WC was during a housewarming party my parents had during the tourney. Eric Errington continuously singing "Yabba Dabba Doo we were beat by Peru, and it was easy, Ea-zay!"

Scotland fans will know what that's about.

Here's the number 2 game.

I saw the defending champs play at highbury the following season versus Sheffield United. Tiny little stadium with construction going on at the other end. They tried to cover up the construction with a huge mural made to look like supporters' faces. Every single face was white.

...but in our defense, they did have Cubillas. The 1-1 draw against Iran was our downfall:rolleyes:

I do remember going to the Pacific Coliseum with my father to watch the 1978 final between Argentina and Holland. Mario Kempes stole the show that game and Argentina won in extra-time.

3-1 was the final. I recall vividly the streamers.....or bogroll getting tossed. That and Archie Gemmill's goal against Holland....we can say that we beat the finalists;)

Possibly the greatest WC goal of all time, but what do you expect from a Gemmill? From Tommy to oor ain wee Georgie.

Number 47 on the list really should rate much more highly.

The day Scotland became Champions of the World.
