I believe Hal Sutton said yesterday during the opening ceremonies that this was what History needed, what the team needed, and most of all what Tiger and Phil needed. I guess it was what Europe needed too.

Great start this morning for our chaps with the US only picking up a 1/2 point versus 3 1/2 for Europe in the first four matches. I think this afternoon will be a little tougher for Europe and the points this morning will be very important come Sunday.

Highlight being Monty and Harrington beating Woods and Mickleson this morning 2&1.

Cheers

Don't speak so soon, looks as though the pairing or lefty and woods isn't going so well.

Europe ends the first day with a 5 point victory, tied for the largest lead after the first day in Ryder Cup history. Thanks for coming out Tiger and Phil. Time to mix things up wouldn't you say Hal? He's a redneck putz anyway and I'm glad he's losing.

OD beat me to it.
Looks like Mickelson couldn't handle the pressure.

Check out the match summary:

Hole No. 1: Phil Mickelson makes par putt to halve the hole.
Hole No. 2: Tiger Woods wins the hole.
Hole No. 3: The Americans win the hole.
Hole No. 4: Woods/Mickelson win the hole.
Hole No. 5: Woods makes nice long putt to halve hole.
Hole No. 6: Woods bogeys. Europe wins hole.
Hole No. 7: Clarke wins hole.
Hole No. 8: Both teams halve hole with bogey.
Hole No. 9: Woods saves par to halve hole.
Hole No. 10: Westwood birdies to win hole.
Hole No. 11: Hole halved.
Hole No. 12: Mickelson misses putt to halve.
Hole No. 13: Mickelson almost makes birdie to win. Hole is halved.
Hole No. 14: Both teams par.
Hole No. 15: Hole halved.
Hole No. 16: Woods makes putt to halve hole.
Hole No. 17: Mickelson wins hole.
Hole No. 18: Mickelson's tee shot hits fence and Woods must take a drop. European Team wins.

Think Woods and Mickelson are better friends now?

Excellent start for day 1 for us. Good pairings and smart play from all concerned. Luke Donald great this afternoon with Garcia, Monty and Harrington continuing where they left off this morning and Westwood and Clarke getting a marvellous point against Woods and Mickleson after being three down after four holes.

Still lots of golf left, but a very nice position to be in going into day two

USA 1-1/2
EUROPE 6-1/2

Cheers

What a great Ryder Cup!
What is it about this event that brings millionares to crumble right before our eyes.
Myself I love alot of the American golfers, such as Phil Mickelson, David Tomms, and Fred Funk.
But it is something about the comrodery of the Europeans that quickly shifts my voting for the European underdogs.
This is killing the Amerecian golfers to get their buts handed to them in the good old USA.
Am i the only one who feels this way about this great old competition?
Somehow the Americans will try as hard as they can in Match play tommorow, but i really feel that this cup is now long gone.
Golf is even greater when you add the team game into the mix and all that you are playing for is pride.

Who would of thought we would have better day two than day one..?

A complete domination in the foursomes on both days to add to a distinct advantage in the fourballs as well. The Americans have struggled both days no more so than Tiger himself. There was no way I see us getting a six point lead going into tomorrows singles, but that is how she stands. If Levet had putted at all well this afternoon, it would of been a clean sweep with the Yanks getting scunked in the foursomes.
Singles is where the Americans exceed the Europeans, there is no doubt. But with three points required to retain the Cup out of twelve possible points, I don't even think these guys are capable of pulling it off. They must start making big putts right across the board and hit more fairways. They have to play agressive golf tomorrow to stand any chance at all. Hopefully the Europeans can keep the momentum going and stick it to the good old US of A one more time.

USA 5
EUROPE 11

Cheers

A great day for all Europeans in sport and Europeans in general. All I have to say to the Americans is would you like ice cream or custard with your humble pie. A good old fashioned arse kicking is what it was as the US were subjected to their heaviest defeat in Ryder Cup history by a team of so called underdogs and no names. Give me a break, 18-1/2 to 9-1/2. Listenening to the anthems and the pipe bands at the closing ceromonies puts a lump in your throat and puts things in perspective. Next to England winning the world cup in football this for me, is most definetely next. I've experienced England winning the World cup once in my lifetime, but the Ryder Cup is beginning to become a habit.

Magic.

All ready looking forward to Ireland 2006. :D :D :D :D

On fire Crafty...

Loved watching the Euro's hand it to the USA. I thought for a fleeting moment this morning that USA may make a run but the Euro's slammed that door closed big time with the last, what was it, six matches coming home?

If Garcia could hit his ball with-out 15 minutes of re-grips and practice swings I would be a huge fan. How much was he loving kicking Chunky's arse? :D
