Guys - well, finally enough mould is rolling downhill with some momentum. Apparently Azzi and Ruben are now fine behind the idea. It is commitment time.

I think at this meeting, there is an opportunity to either make this an O40 or an O45 league.

We need at least 6 teams, more preferred. Who is in? Westside will have at least 2 teams, likely favoring O45.

It is imperative that you come to the meeting if you are interested in making this happen (and even if you are not quite ready for it, I would suggest getting to this so it is ready for you when you are!)

I'm all for this but from what I've heard, SU Masters isn't attending - I think that window has shut with the group that would have been keen a year ago.

Do you horsies realize you will be a year older (now nearing 50?) and still playing against inferior, yet potentially 20 years younger?

What happened to these guys in the course of a year? I know it can all go downhill pretty quick if you stop training but 2 whole (or not quite whole, or we would have had a league by now) teams?! Right when you should be paying more attention to the old ticker etc. It's a tough thing to start a new division...

Not sure if someone from our team (MF) is attending the meeting but we would not be able to put a team in this division. Simply not enough guys this age to do this or to support 2 teams (1 O35 and 1 O40). We brought in a bunch of younger guys this year so it will not work for us right now.

It's been mentioned before but there's not much point in an O-40's league. I think it should be O-45 with maybe 2 or 3 guys 41-45. But who knows? The tipping point to get this launched is elusive though. You have to commit so far in advance and a lot of different teams have to be in the same boat (a lot of aging keeners) to make it work. I guess we'll find out.

Having said that, I'm not sure if I am into playing much more, I'm tired of being sore for 4-5 days after a turf game. I used to do yoga to try and get fit for soccer but now I'm finding the soccer is cutting into my yoga workouts!

What's that yoga position called where you pull both legs up over your head, hooking your ankles behind your ears, yet still breathing through your nose? The inverted pussy?

In fairness, if you have seen the x-rays of Peter's knees, it is a shock he can walk, nevermind bend into these positions, even if they are self-rewarding

Why don't you merge with a couple of teams? BRMMFFF

Looks like the meeting went well?

VMSL Meeting for New Over 40 Division
February 21, 2011-- 7:00 p.m.

1. Attendance:
• VMSL: William Azzi, Carlos Grosso
• Teams: (PCOV, Covercrete, Westside, Meralomas, Bombastic, Lordco Ajax, SFU Royals and United)

2. Over 40 Division
• Minimum 8 to 10 Teams Max (May start with 6 Teams the first year with everyone playing each other 3 times)
• Each Team would be allowed 5 underage players between the ages of 35 and 39 for 2011/12 season. This number would decrease from 5 to 4 for the following season and every year after that until the division would be an Over 40 Division with no underage players.
• Players signed for the Over 40’s Division would be allowed to CAT with their club Teams. No players from other club teams would be allowed to CAT into the over 40 Division. In other words, to play in the Over 40 Division you must be signed with the team in the Over 40 Division.
• Over 40 Division teams will be given the option to participate in the Masters’ ‘B’ Cup.

3. Application Process
• Need a letter of intent along with a $550 cheque ($250 Performance Bond, $250 VMSL League Fee, $50 BC Soccer Fee). If a team withdraws from the Over 40 Division, the $550 will not be refunded. However, if the Over 40 Division does not materialize, then the $550 will be refunded.
• Deadline is May 1, 2011
I like the idea that teams can play in the Masters B Cup.

5 underage players seems a bit much though, too much IMO - what's the reasoning behind that?

I agree - I think we need to make these rules appropriate for who is going in. If the 6 initial teams don't have anyone under 40, then I suggest we eliminate the under 40 allocation. If there is one or two, fine, but 5 is too much. Hell, this could easily be an O45 league.

An O-45 league (with some 40-44 year olds allowed) was proposed but shot down when teams said that they had too many guys in their 30's. It's important to get this thing established though and from what I understand this will be a fluid system that can change over time. The idea is to have 5 underage guys to start, 4 next year, 3...etc. until it's all O-40.

Of course by that time we'll need an O-60 league.

...which Peter will be able to play in next year.:D

Still not enough of a jump from 35+ to 40+. This should be 45+ with 3 "underaged" players allowed between 41 and 44. Conversely, with the number of guys in the Masters' Division who are already past that age, teams should be able to CAT upwards as well.

If you are on the O40 team, you can cat up to your O35 team (if you have one).

Trece, that scenario was proposed by Westside but was shot down by a couple of the interested teams because it would have made them ineligible. So it was decided to get the thing started and go from there. As I understand it, the division could change at any time: i.e., become an O-45 division in a few years.

Again, it isn't a "go" yet but to get this thing airborne will be an accomplishment and then take it from there. We've only been trying for about 5 years...

Freddy: "upwards" as in "upwards in age." We have a number of guys on the cusp of 50 or just past who want to stay at the 35+ level but who would also like to test the waters of a 45+ scenario. I guess they will have to wait a bit longer...
