In today's age of MP3s, iPods, Shuffles, and satellite radio, it seems that kids of today are quickly losing the ability to waste away their free-time staring at magnificent pop-culture art work while listening to the Zeppelin of their generation. And I think the music industry is beginning to realize this and as a result failing to put any real thought and creativity behind new album covers.
In fact, as a side project, I've been recently going through all of my MP3s and organizing them so that our iPod will be able to sort them correctly and show the cover art. During this time I've come to reminisce over many covers I grew to love.
So what are some of the greatest album covers of all-time? Which are the most intriguing? And which offered the best art work? Or, which, as a snot-nosed teenager, were your favourites and too damn cool?
To start . . .
Van Halen's 1984
Hendrix's UK version of Electric Ladyland
The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
P.S. If you're looking for a good spot to get a picture of it, try http://www.amazon.com or http://www.allmusic.com/.
