2-0 Canada, DeRo with both goals (second on a PK)... first goal should have NEVER happened. The goal however was all set-up with Stalteri's great first touch to set himself up to knock a great ball in to the back stick.

Onstad was solid, no thanks to the young Quebec guy at the back. He's young but man does he seem to make poor decisions.

Only 2 minutes of extra time added which seemed to be a bit of a joke considering the amount of time Onstad was down as well as Harmse.

The other big joke is Dobson and his play-by-play. 30 minutes to go... "Canada up 2 nil and this is very discouraging!" or something to that effect when Haiti was seeing more of the ball. Fcuk me, yeah, there was a spell of breakdowns but they were up 2-0 donkey! These things happen in football.

Can't find the game on Sportsnet, not until 11 anyway, you sure it's on at 6?

It was advertised to start at 6:00...even the tv schedule on channel 2 showed it starting at six on sportsnet!!!
They were showing some Blue jays Baseball Weekly....

I know, started to panic but eventually found it, glad I did though, was a good game to watch, although as said before the commentating wasn't the greatest, but I've heard worse.

Funny how things work out. This is the first time Canada has ever qualified for the Gold Cup quarter-finals without help. As you remember, they made it in 2000 on a coin toss and in 2002 by the drawing of lots. Also in 2002, they beat the same Haiti team 2-0 in the Orange Bowl to open the tournament.

Guatemala will be tough. So will watching all the diving!

Moving on up June 13, 2007 (AP) ZURICH, Switzerland (CP-AP) Sportsnet -- Canada has climbed 38 spots in the FIFA world soccer rankings after a pair of wins at the Gold Cup this month. Victories over Costa Rica and Haiti at the tournament boosted the Canadian squad from No. 94 in May to No. 56 in the June rankings released Wednesday. Only Armenia, which moved up 48 spots, had a bigger improvement than Canada in the rankings..... Italy kept its No. 1 place while France overtook Brazil to climb to the No. 2 spot. Brazil was third, while Germany climbed one spot to fourth -- its highest ranking in four years -- and Argentina fell two spots to fifth.

Next stop....Top Ten!!

The announcers in this game sound like they are broadcasting from inside a tin can and are calling a hockey game.

Especially when Canada goes up 1-0 and the play by play guy announces:

Kick off time is definitely 4pm Pacific. Roger's Sportsnet are supposed to be carrying the game although the TV schedule posted on their website doesn't appear to have been updated.

It's going to be a great test for Canada...

In other news, Guadaloupe (sp?) pulled off a huge upset in knocking off Honduras in quarterfinal action. They will meet Mexico in the other semi - Mexico needed extra time to beat Costa Rica 1-0.
