really? 4 Million for a guy that puts up numbers below what Burrows does and gets half that?

Leino made 800k last year and last year was his first full NHL Season, and statistically his best points per game..with 53 pts in 81 games.

I can't see Leino getting that much cake. I stand to be corrected, but I'm not paying a guy like that 4 mill. His contemporaries this year for points per game and such that do play a bit of special teams (Leino's a beast of a PK guy) are Michael Grabner (3 mill cap hit with a one year track record) Patrick Berglund (2.25 Mill cap hit) PA Parenteau (1.25 mill hit) Jussi Jokinen (1.7 Mill Cap hit)

The established guys in his point range are:
Nathan Horton (4.0)
Erik Cole (2.9)
Brad Boyes (4.0)
Renee Bourque (3.33)

I wouldn't pay more that 3.2 for him.

If we could get him for that I would LOVE to see him in a Canucks uni. I just have a feeling he'll be overpaid.

Here you go, capgeek.com has a beauty tool...
CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

FORWARDS
Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Alexandre Burrows ($2.000m)
Mason Raymond ($2.550m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / Ville Leino ($3.200m)
Raffi Torres ($1.000m) / Manny Malhotra ($2.500m) / Jannik Hansen ($1.000m)
Victor Oreskovich ($0.600m) / Maxim Lapierre ($1.000m) / Mikael Samuelsson ($2.500m)
Chris Higgins ($1.800m) / Cody Hodgson ($1.666m)

DEFENSEMEN
Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m) / Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m)
Keith Ballard ($4.200m) / Alexander Edler ($3.250m)
Aaron Rome ($0.750m) / Sami Salo ($1.500m)
Chris Tanev ($0.900m) / Andrew Alberts ($1.050m)

GOALTENDERS
Roberto Luongo ($5.333m) / Cory Schneider ($0.900m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,999,999; BONUSES: $850,000

That means even with some LTIR Cushion from Raymond etc we could afford to pay him even more than 3.2 and without dumping off Ballard.

No way Jose.

He's an RFA. You'd have to trade Ballard, Schneider, Hodgson, and a few 1st rounders for him, then pay him 6.5-7.5 Schmill per year.

You can't offer-sheet him as the CLUB filed arbitration on him, which means they have to accept the deal the arbitrator gives them, and it's a one year deal, at the end of which he becomes a UFA.

Maybe they'll walk away from the abitrater's ruling? And then he'll sign here for $5M/season. Dare to dream Arnold, dare to dream.

You can't walk away when you the GM File for Arbitration. Teams can only walk if the player files for arbitration. Keep dreaming.

Here's another Arm Chair GM move...speaking of dreaming

Trade Schneider, Hodgson, Ballard, and Samuelsson (perhaps even kick in another prospect or draft pick) to the Jets for Zach Bogosian and Evander Kane.

We don't need Schneider or Hodgson as they are behind players that are contractually obligated long term for their end potential. Ballard is a salary dump that could be productive in a different mix, and Samuelsson is an effective player who has essentially lost his role with the team currently. all 4 are very tradeable assets.

Kane and Bogosian are excellent young players and will cost a lot. Bogosian is currently an RFA.

Your roster and cap could look like this:

FORWARDS
Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Alexandre Burrows ($2.000m)
Chris Higgins ($1.800m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / Evander Kane ($3.100m)
Raffi Torres ($1.000m) / Manny Malhotra ($2.500m) / Jannik Hansen ($1.000m)
Victor Oreskovich ($0.600m) / Maxim Lapierre ($1.000m) / Jeff Tambellini ($0.700m)
Mason Raymond ($2.550m)

DEFENSEMEN
Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m) / Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m)
Zach Bogosian ($4.500m) / Alexander Edler ($3.250m)
Aaron Rome ($0.750m) / Sami Salo ($1.500m)
Chris Tanev ($0.900m) / Andrew Alberts ($1.050m)

GOALTENDERS
Roberto Luongo ($5.333m) / Eddie Lack ($0.900m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)

If you did Andrew Ladd instead of Kane you'd have around the same spend for cap hit, but you'd give up less to get them.

PLUS it would be a huge fan hit in Winnipeg for the fans there to get Schneider there, I guess Hodgson also...who'd slot right in as the number 2 or 3 centre immediately.

Further to that Ladd and Bogosian are both RFA's currently as well as Mason and Pavelec next year

Wow....that seems low considering this guy is supposed to be some 6 mill + dman :p

I would have held out another day or two for a conditional draft pick situation where it's a 4th rounder if he's not signed, but a 2nd rounder if he was signed.

Fcuk me, JBN stop posting like you know everything -- WRONG on 2 accounts:

1. Arbitration awards are NOT always 1 year
2. Teams can "walk away" from any arbitration with some restrictions on when they last did it

(d) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraphs (a) and (b)
above, a Club may exercise the walk-away rights referred to
therein not more than 3 times in any contiguous two League Years
and in any event not more than twice in any League Year. If a
Club exercises its walk-away right with respect to a two year
award, the walk-away right shall be deemed to be exercised in the
first year of the two year contract.

dezza, the team CAN walk away from an arbitrators ruling if the PLAYER files the arbitration case. they Cannot if THE CLUB files for arbitration, which is what Nashville did.

Also the arbitrator can not impose term.

Nor would I JBN, but in a UFA class that is quite thin, one of the 30 GM's out there are going to over value this guy, who would be a great fit on most second lines - and pay him too much. He'll get at least 4 million. No question.

You can't compare what other similar players are getting. He's not negotiating his rights with one team as an RFA or in Arbitration where that comparison would be relevant. He's going to go to the highest bidder, much like Ehrhoff is. If someone feels he is the piece of the puzzle they are missing, they will pay him accordingly.
