Pk’s need to be caught by the ref. If it’s not visible to the naked eye then don’t go slowing it down looking for it. The game isn’t played in VAR land.

The GK encroachment call is irritating, but technically correct.

New rules published in August state that there is to be a warning before the caution to the encroaching GK in a shootout. However, MLS started this season before those rules were adopted so they can't use them in these playoffs.

The botched substitution however, which was only reversed once the backup gk was in the goal waiting for the kick to be taken was truly shocking, and then the referee losing track of the kicks taken and blowing the final whistle after a save with the score still tied... Well, I think even a local u-12 ref could do better

MLS will allow extra subs for players who receive concussions during games. Great idea. Too many brain addled old time soccer players around with some of them coaching kids.
The first study on concussions among professional soccer players was done in sweden in the 70's which showed that many retired players had significant brain damage.

I always felt I was playing against players with significant brain damage, didn’t need to do a study though.
