Guess the farmers pulled a win over the city boys @shaheenfc... every tackle was like a murder scene for Shaheen... 6-7 rolls with extensive screaming . Not sure if vmsl teams can vouch for this. It was quite a scene to be apart of.

Same thing when we played them.

So, what will happen with quarter-final game Gorge-Us Guys - Graduates FC? It looks that the game has not been rescheduled for today.

Semi-finals should be next week (March 1-3, 2019) while B-Cup Final game is scheduled for May 10, 2019 in Nanaimo.
Mid-week travel to the Island (to play quarter-final game before next week's semi-finals) is basically impossible so it looks that the only way to play that quarter-final game will be to play it on Saturday, March 2, 2019 then have semi-final game on Sunday, March 3, 2019 (weather permitting).

I came to field to watch the Gorge us Guys game against Graduates to find out it was cancelled.

Where do last minute cancellations get posted?

And here are some "answers" to my question:

1) Introduction

d. BC Soccer Representatives

i. BC Soccer, through its Adult Competitions Committee, shall appoint a BC Soccer Representative to the competition whose decision at the competition, on any matter not covered in the rules, bylaws and policies of BC Soccer, shall be final and binding on all parties.

It seems that BC Soccer Rep will have to make a decision and decide a winner by some kind of draw. It is really not practical that Gorge-Us Guys manage to schedule a quarter-final game for Saturday, May 2, 2019 and, assuming they would win, also schedule semi-final game for Sunday, May 3, 2019 (at the same time, Graduates FC would have to schedule semi-final game for Sunday assuming they win that quarter-final match).
But, this would also mean that a winner of quarter-final match between Metropolitan FC - PMO Titans would not know until Saturday afternoon whether they would have to travel to the Island to play their semi-final game or not so it is really hard to expect that this "Scheduling" rule (see below) would work:

6) Competition Rules

a. Scheduling.

ii. Teams are required to schedule their own fields for all rounds leading up to the Finals of Provincial Cup play. Teams must schedule and communicate the time, date and location of the game to BC Soccer by Tuesday at noon of that week. If the game details are not submitted to BC Soccer by Tuesday at noon, the Away team will become the Home team and is given the option of scheduling the game.

iii. The Home team for any round of Provincial Cup except the finals must schedule the game for a date/time on Friday, Saturday or Sunday if it involves two lower mainland teams or two island teams. Alternatively, you must schedule a date/time on Saturday or Sunday that kicks off between 12:00pm and 4:00pm if the game involves one Lower Mainland team and one Vancouver Island team/Sunshine Coast. Once confirmed with BC Soccer, the schedule will not be changed unless otherwise agreed to by both teams.

Quite possibly BC Soccer will draw a winner.

So to reply to FC Red Star, the BC Soccer Rep Ryan McQuillan made the call to cancel the game even though Graduates could have caught the Nanaimo ferry down to Victoria as they had plenty of time to do so. There were other options to get the game played but he/them couldn't agree to get it done even though all the other mainland teams in their respective cups managed to make it over to the island to play their games??? The game was scheduled well within BC soccer rules so if anything should happen Graduates should forfeit and Gorge should move on no draw nonsense. As of right now BC soccer has stated we play May.4th and the whole tournament gets pushed back a week so the finals would be May 18-20th weekend. Good luck to all

No real alternative to this I suppose. Similar to a couple of years ago when it snowed and the B final and Masters final were played a week later than the others.

But still tragic to have it bumped from the Finals day. The finalists deserve to be part of the show.

If Graduates were to win maybe they could play their semi-final mid-week?

therealwalt,

Thanks for your update. Sadly, BC Soccer has still not updated their web sited with that info (as of this moment):
https://scheduler.tournamentconnect.stacksports.com/schedules/264/divisions/5896/brackets/tree

By the way, I thought the game was cancelled due to ferry cancellations on Saturday.

Canucks4Ever,

Apparently BC Soccer rules specify that the games have to be played over the weekend but they could certainly make a change if they wanted.

If that remaining quarter-final game (Gorge-Us Guys - Graduates FC) will be now played on May 4, 2019 it will be interesting to see if Abbotsford - Serbia (semi-final) will be moved by a week so both semi-final games are played the same weekend (which would be May 11-12, 2019).

we are crossing our fingers and hoping that @therealwalt's statement is true and the finals are pushed back a week. One of our players is getting married Saturday May 11 so lets just say a trek to the island on a 8am ferry the morning after the reception is going to be one hell of a shite show.

Just speaking as a bystander....The final cannot be pushed back. Thats like saying we will push back Championship League final because of so and so reason.
The Island game can be played on Saturday and then the semifinal game on Sunday, or mid-Week. If you cannot make it then you forfeit. Simple as that. Furthermore, Island Team should move on as Graduates had plenty of time to get their sh^t in order but did not catch their ferry. That is on them. Travel the night before!?
If BC Soccer moves a game week after, and then you have two LM teams make the final, then make the final game in the LM as well. Why would two LM teams go out of their way to play the game on an ISLAND by themselves? Makes no fuc*ing sense!?!?!
If BC Soccer is trying to make it a FINAL WEEK then I can see it, but otherwise the Cup competition is basically one garbage thing.

robino,

You are absolutely correct that if the final game gets pushed back by a week (and two LM teams are in the finals) there is no reason for those two teams to travel to the Island to play on their own on May 18-19, 2019 (a week after all other final games were already played).

The problem is you are thinking of the "Final" as a big event (which it absolutely should be).

BC Soccer just thinks of it as the last game of the tournament.

IMO they should be doing everything in their power to move heaven and Earth to keep the final on schedule for May 12 with the other finals. This should be a big spectacle with some pomp and circumstance and all the webcast and PA announcing etc. etc.

But that's not how BC Soccer thinks. They totally miss the mark on how much interest there is from the soccer community at large in these tournaments. This whole "Final Weekend" should be the biggest event of the year, but look no further than their website this season or the way they do the draws to see how tone deaf the organization is to the interest and popularity of these competitions. People want match reports, goal scorers, previews and analysis. When you make it to this stage it should feel like a big deal.

Instead the attitude is likely just "we would have liked to have all the finals the same day but there was bad weather so we'll just move the one."

Who knows maybe if @GoF et al start banging on about it on Twitter maybe they will get a response like with the website. I doubt it though.

From my own experience from about 3-4 years ago. Our team, Mundi, lost the semi-final to Rino's which set up the match everybody wanted to see in Rino's vs Campo in the Provincial final. But there was a bit of controversy behind the scenes. Going in to the semi-final we knew that if we had beaten Rino's then we couldn't field a team for the Final as half of our roster would be away. BCSoccer told us that the date and location of the final could not be changed(it was on the Island that year) as all finals were scheduled to play on the same day. If we could not field a team then we would be fined and possibly ruled out of future provincial play. We had no incentive to win the game and sat arguably our two best players(former CIS National Champs). We ended up losing in extra time but that was only because Rino's didn't bring their shooting boots on the day. So I think BC Soccer takes it seriously when they want to. lol.

We are in a similar situation if we happen to beat Serbia this Saturday. Let's see how it goes.
