From what I can tell, it would appear that all eight provincial cups play the same format/weekends. Could be wrong, though.

Re: 2011 BC Mens Provincial A Cup - Draw, Predictions, Results & Banter

So last year there were 20 clubs:

VMSL - 2 prelim, 6 Rof16 (8 total)
FVSL - 3 prelim, 2 Rof16 (5 total)
VISL - 3 prelim, 2 Rof16 (5 total)
UBC T-Birds (PCSL/CIS spot?)
Abby Mariners (PDL spot?)

Perhaps someone could clarify how UBC and Abbotsford Mariners qualified.

Assuming VISL still have 5 spots, they should be:

Gordon Head
Cowichan FC
Bays United FC
Vic West FC
Nanaimo United FC

...unless Sooke Celtic upset Cowichan on Friday, in which take Sooke Celtic would be in, and Nanaimo United FC would be out.

God I hope Sooke makes it...I'm looking forward to having some beers over some beers...

UBC was the PCSL entry.

Abby would have been one of the FVSL spots.

UBC was the PCSL entry.

Thought so. So UBC will be in again.

Ahhh, right. Forgot they compete in the FVSL Prem. So a correction to my earlier list:

VMSL - 2 prelim, 6 Rof16 (8 total)
FVSL - 3 prelim, 3 Rof16 (6 total)
VISL - 3 prelim, 2 Rof16 (5 total)
PCSL - 1 Rof16 (1 total)

Curious as to why there isn't a single club from outside the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island - say, from the Okanagan or Prince George. Leagues not competitive enough? Lack of interest in travelling (potentially several matches)? Have leagues from these regions ever been approached in regards to participating?

In BC Soccer when you play in a sanctioned league, depending on the league and division you sign to, you either sign an "A Comeptitons Form" or a "B Competitions Form" for the open ages.

"A- Form" is VMSL Prem & D1, FVSL Prem & D1, VISL 1-2 (IIRC) and PCSL.
"B-Form" is Basically the form the D2 and down signs in the FVSL, VMSL, VISL and every other league around the province like Burnaby Mens Soccer Assn, Richmond Senior Soccer Assn, etc etc etc.

B Provincials often will have the prem teams from Burnaby/Richmond playing the best D2 teams from FVSL and VMSL and VISL as well as some teams from places like PG, Williams Lake, etc which is why the B-Cup used to be a 1 weekend tourney format tourney, to allow teams from remote parts to travel. IIRC there were no entrants to the B-Cup last year from North/Interior

Don't believe there is a prelim round this year...just 16 teams total, including 7 from the vmsl (not 8). I am guessing:

7 vmsl
4 fvsl
4 visl
1 pcsl

How do the VMSL clubs qualify? Top 6 in the Prem and the Imperial Cup winner? I suppose it's a moot point this season, though, as all four Imperial Cup semi-finalists are in the top 7 of the Prem.

I find the FVSL website's "Promotion, Relegation, League Cups and Provincial Cup 2011/2012" page extremely helpful - wish the VMSL and VISL websites had similar pages. However, it's difficult keeping track of cups (particularly upcoming fixtures) on the FVSL website.

4 semifinalists are the first qualifiers and then it goes to the league standings to fill out the remaining spots
