Well another season of NCAA football has started.... Well it's 3 weeks in.... sorry been busy....

Some good games in the opening weeks. Was in Vegas for the USC/OSU game.... and of course Michigan beating ND  Great atmosphere though around Vegas for these games!! All big school represented!!!

Biggest upset so far, as Regs reported in another thread, Washington over USC.... not bad for a school that didn't win a game last year.

Looks like the Irish are in tough again this year.

Clausen has been hit and miss (That shocking incompletion at the end of the Michigan game that handed the Wolverines the drive with enough time to come from behind to win and see the Irish fall out of the top 25 :()

Beat Michigan State, as they should have more easily done, now they have to go to Purdue and then host USC and U-Dub at home the two weeks after, could easily be 3-3 or 2-4, with a bit of luck may only lose 1 of those games...

I'm still not sold on Coach Weis. :( How are you feeling about the Irish BJB?

I thought this might be a decent season for them.... This is Weiss's first recruiting class and with weiss taking over the Offensive Coordinator roll as well, i thought this could be a decent year and get into a good bowl game, not a Top 5 bowl game, but top 10 atleast. But the michigan game summed it up. Bad play calling on Weiss's behalf at the end there... why wouldn't you run the ball....oh well..... Defence still ain't strong enough... Still lots of work to do..... This may be Weiss's last season as Head Coach.... The alumni are getting pissed and wanting a change.... again....

On another note.... Will Ty Willingham ever get a job again???

I thought last year was Weis' first recruiting class (Clausen's freshman year)

regardless, they seem to be able to push the ball on the ground through the middle more effectively than the sweeps and the plays they attempt to go around the tackles.

Clausen has a bomb of an arm, but his accuracy seems to really stink between 20-30 yards... He seems to air them in hard and too high.

IIRC this is the last year of his 6 year contract, so... it may be adios...

The fact that he is supposed to be a scheme genius and has ranked in the top 20 or so teams since 2006 in recruiting, and they still get these inconsistencies drives me up the wall...

The trouble is that he is the only coach they have had in a long long time that has been able to recruit really well based on his life in the NFL and his promise to develop kids. They seem to finally be leveraging that with the NBC Deal as far as recruiting kids... but that doesn't mean a damn thing if they can't get into a bowl game.

I'll say they beat a crap Purdue team narrowly in West Lafayette, lose to USC at home and beat U-Dub at home to end that part of the sched off 4-2.

After that is gets a bit easier before toughening up again at the end.
BC, then the Cougars (In Texas of all places), Navy, @ Pittsburgh, Conneticut, and @ Stanford.

They will be lucky to end up 8-4, probably more like 7-5.

ND vs Washington......

Even though I am a huge ND Fan, I felt that Washington should have won this game.... They looked really good, other than 8 tries from the one yard line and only got a field goal, but to be honest they shouldn't have got those 8 tries as i think the RB was in on the original TD as the ball crossed the line and then knee hit. Oh well. Clausen played an unreal game with 400+ in passing.... This year is shot, but if ND's defence can pickup a bit for next year, should be a top contender.

As for washington, looks like the rebuilding is starting to show....

I thought it was an awesome game to watch (not a fan of either team) but Washington looked the better team. But then again, when you get stopped 3 seperate series on the 1 yard line do you really deserve to win?

sorry but Boise State aint going no where with that schedule, or that god awful field that screws up my tv

They're ranked 5th at the moment but need to pump a few more touchdowns in against Tulsa to maintain that.........but it's not looking good at the moment.

Go Broncos!

Bronco,

You always think negatively. Look at it this way......

Washington beat USC, ND beat Washington so.....

it's either giong to be a tie.... or a ND victory....

ND vs USC........

Not sure what to think about this game..... At times it looked like USC was going to destroy the fcku out of ND, especially their first drive 3 plays - 80 yards of passing TD!! Toooo easy...... ND kept in there.... and actually played well. Offence played well, but the defence just looked weak.... ND with the chance to tie and go to OT in the last 40 sec.... but really bad play clock management by Claussen and Coaching staff... not sure why they didn't call time out when they had first and goal on the 1, with 30 or so seconds left..... They should have tied and this game should have gone to O/T.... That's 8 wins in a row for USC now.... maybe next year??

As for other news and Rankings.... A new number 1?? Wow.... Florida with a 3pt win over unranked Arkansa, see's them drop to #2 in the AP..... Captain's team still undefeated but drops to #6.....

Two pretty will pedigreed schools in the final. Here are a few former notable players/coaches from each school. There are several NFL Hall of Famers, and Heisman trophy winners here:

Alabama:

Don Hutson
Bart Starr
Joe Namath
John Hannah
Dwight Stephenson
Bear Bryant
Ozzie Newsome
Derrick Thomas

Texas:

Earl Campbell
Ricky Williams
Bill Bradley
Tom Landry
Tex Schramm
Bobby Layne
Vince Young

If I was to pick the best ever from each, I would say John Hannah from Alabama and Earl Campbell from Texas, who by the way was the best College back I have ever seen, Williams being not too far behind.
