WFC2 v Real Monarchs – The Story In Pictures
A third of the way into the 2016 USL season and Vancouver Whitecaps 2 remain unbeaten and top of the Western Conference standings.
Sunday’s 2-2 draw took their unbeaten run to ten matches, but Alan Koch’s side had to content themselves with a single point after looking to be home and dry and coasting when they scored two goals in the space of 66 seconds, from Ben McKendry and Kyle Greig, to go 2-0 up in the 25th minute.
But credit to Real Monarchs who fought back through a brace of beauties from USL Player of the Week Ricardo Velazco either side of half time, to come away with a share of the spoils.
AFTN photographer Tom Ewasiuk was there to capture all the action before, during and after the game and here’s his “Story In Pictures”, with a full Flickr slideshow at the end.

Your unbeaten WFC2 starting XI
After a battling start, the ‘Caps take the lead in the 24th minute when Brett Levis lays the ball off to Ben McKendry on the edge of the box
And the midfielder hit a beauty first time
That flies past Real keeper Eduardo Fernandez into the top corner
Sparking his trademark corner flag celebration
The ‘Caps attack straight from the restart and Sam Adekugbe sends a low ball in across goal to Kyle Greig
And 66 seconds after the first goal, the ‘Caps captain tucks it away for 2-0
That was Greig’s ninth goal of the season so far
But a minute into first half stoppage time, Ricardo Velazco pulls one back with a strike that beats Paolo Tornaghi all ends up
And the Italian is left wondering what him again in the 53rd minute when Valazco curl’s a beauty home from the corner of the box
Real joy there and an end to the day’s scoring as well for a 2-2 final
