Ok, after some delay, soul searching, false promises, nasty politics and a recognition of some be careful what you wish for issues, Sir M's Excellent Power Rankings are back with the 2015-2016 inaugural edition. Lets get on with it now:
1. Port Moody O'Rangers FC (FVSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). This team is undefeated and atop of the FVSL Masters Premier heap. Staff are curious as to what the big O means. Sikh tonight.
2. Coquitlam Port Coquitlam Metro Ford Sapperton Euro-Rite Castillian Rover Wolves (VMSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). This team, which after some debate by staff, will heretofore be known in these rankings as CMFPCE (that's way better). Recent 5-1 and 4-3 home wins over perennial rankings heavyweights Columbus and West Van respectively leaps them to not only a 1 point first place margin in VMSL Masters Premier, but more importantly, second spot in these rankings. Romanians next.
3. Croatia SC M A (VMSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). This is a group that appears to be coming to terms with their identity. One of four teams tied for second place in VMSL Masters Premier. Away to West Van next.
4. West Van FC M (VMSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). This side's mini-streak came to a halt last night at Town Center. Also in a second place tie in VMSL Masters Premier. Croatians are next up.
5. Portuguese Club of Vancouver M A (VMSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). This team looked to be world beaters coming out of the gate, but mittens and leggings weather have slowed them down. Staff predict a resurgence after Movember is over. Also tied in second in VMSL. Up The Drive a couple blocks to Falconetti's next.
6. North Delta SC Rangers (FVSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). In a curious phenomena not seen since CFL teams from both Regina and Saskatchewan imaginatively settled on the same nickname, this is one of several dozen Rangers sides in the FVSL. Currently, the Rangers are in second place, snapping at the heels of the Rangers.
7. Columbus FC M A (VMSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). Columbus has cured its scoring woes of last year, but is another team suffering from excessive hair this month. Also tied for second in VMSL. Away to arch-rivals Westside next.
8. Westside FC M A (VMSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). This side, the reigning BC and Western Canada Masters Champions and a walking testimony to the strength of these rankings, is rounding into form. With but a few exceptions, they have robust dental plans. Columbus next.
9. Romanian FC M (VMSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). This side consistently beats Falconettis. Po Co Metro Ford next.
10. Surrey United (FVSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). Currently in fourth place in FVSL Masters Premier, this former VMSL and before that FVSL but now back in FVSL side are coming of back to back victories.
11. Roma (NSCL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). Roma are atop the NSCL standings and are undefeated. This is a team, are well prepared, and are known to have several dozen players warming up at the game. Please enjoy the following rare footage of a Roma warm up before arch rival Seymour up at Confederation Park:
12. Coastal FC Peace Arch (FVSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). This side are currently in third spot in FVSL Masters Premier. They have lodged an official complaint about having a bye this week.
13. Shaheen FC M (VMSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). This side has brought their attacking style and penchant for showering with their underwear on to VMSL Masters Div 1, where they currently dominate.
14. South Surrey FC (FVSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). This team makes its debut in the rankings as a Div 1 side. Currently first place and undefeated in FVSL Masters Div 1.
15. Delta United (FVSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). This team, reeling from a change in government, has had a slow start to the season. Currently sixth place in FVSL Masters Premier.
16. SFC Temple United A (FVSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). Temple are also off to a slow start, but for the same reason that has DU down, their spirits are buoyed. Big game coming up against the #1 ranked side. Currently fifth in FVSL.
17. Langley FC Rangers (FVSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). A FVSL team nicknamed Rangers for a change, this side sits in second spot in FVSL Masters Div 1. Last night they took it to the next level.
18. Vancouver United Rangers (VMSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). This Div 1 VMSL Masters side gets into this week's rankings after an expected defeat of the pedestrian Norvan side last night. Should perhaps compete for promotion this year.
19. Croatia SC Stallions (VMSL). Another VMSL Div 1 Masters side cracks this week's rankings.
20. Falconetti's East Side (VMSL) (last week's ranking: not ranked). This side has found it a bit of a tough go in VMSL Masters Premier this year; currently in eighth spot in the table and will have to scratch to avoid relegation. Or merge with someone near the top of the rankings.
So that is it for this week. Good luck to all sides vying for spots in Sir M's Excellent Power Rankings.
