Well we are now down to the final 8. Some interesting games this last weekend, notably up at Confederation Park where (forget about the results) there was quite the collection of TTPers: Mr. Rempa, Eagles, of course Cside17, Skanky CDMTC Blonde, Anti-Fan, JAGS, redheadedgardengnome, Biggs, Unclewest, Sir M, Dickens to name a few, and some excellent matches coming up this weekend. So now, it is time for this week's edition of:

Sir M's Excellent Power Rankings:

1. S.F.C. Rangers (FVSL. Last week’s rank: 1). This side scrapped out a 1-0 win against West Van on Friday eve, in a big win for them. They appear to be a bunch of guys that play hard, drink quite heavily, have a questionable sartorial sense, and need to learn a valuable lesson: NEVER lend Dickens any piece of clothing if you ever want to get it back. They have a match this week at home against Sapperton: MOTW. Should be a war. They owe Sapp points.

2. Columbus F.C. (VMSL. Last week’s rank: 4). Despite some annoying and acrimonious posts from this side of late, Sir M does feel obligated to move them up after an emphatic defeat of a highly ranked FVSL side PAU by four goals this last Sunday. Up against Cliff next on Sunday at Byrne Creek.

3. Sapperton Rovers (VMSL. Last week’s rank: 6). This team won easily, and also are quite annoying. In addition to that, they are from New Westminster. Big game out at NAP on Friday, in a game, staff are saying, which could go to PKs.

4. UVIC Alumni. (VISL. Last week's rank: 2). Despite the lobbying of some Island TTPers such as the learned West family (Uncle, Vic, and of course the notorious Adam West of Batman fame), this team's tight win over a significantly lower ranked Nanaimo side does not do them any favours in these rankings. Down two, big game hosting Westside next. A win will move them up, staff predict.

5. Westside F.C. (VMSL. Last week’s rank: 5). Westside won again on PKs on Sunday over Inter. Hopefully they will get everyone out for their trip to the Island this weekend. Have the ability to go all the way, as do some of their supporters.

6. Vantreights (VISL. Last week's rank: 10). These guys are up a big four spots after defeating FVSL darlings DMU in Delta. Host Coveside next.

7. Cliff Ave. United (VMSL. Last week’s rank: 9). This side won, but did not impress on Sunday. They need to get some of their star players to get out and play in the BCs quarterfinal against Columbus. They can win this game, if mummsy allows some of their players to attend for a couple of hours, staff advise. They have strong goaltending, but need offence.

8. Coveside F.C. (NSCL. Last week's rank: 15). Gutsy win by this team up in North Van on Sunday against a team that were pretty organized, and a bit rotund. But their opponents were full marks for bringing along the vivacious brunette, who for her bus trip to the Mainland was sporting the 4 inch stilettos, jeans, a tight white sweater, and was kicking it around on the sidelines in the spike heels. Luch would have done his ankle in seconds under the same circumstances. But God bless her. SkankyCDMTCBlonde seemed a bit envious, to tell the truth.

So, there you go for this week. Next week, we will be down to four. Good luck to all ranked teams.

Sir M.

UVIC V Westside Prov cup 1/4 final:

UVIC went up 2-0 in the first half on goals from Tony Legg and Nick Gilbert. Westside did not show well at all in the 1st half. Didn't even look like they thought they were in a cup game. In the second half UVIC decided to sit back and defend their lead. Big mistake. This let Westside think they were in the game and they actually created some chances early. Westside finally got on the scoresheet with not too much time left, I think Catliff headed in the cross. They had a couple more great chances with no time left sailing the ball over and/or wide a few times. Full marks to UVIC, the better team on the day, but should rethink sitting on a lead in the future. The game overall was a dud from a spectator POV. I'm looking forward to playing Coveside tomorrow.

Cheers.
