Boksic bullish over Italy clash

ZAGREB (Reuters) - Croatia striker Alen Boksic is convinced his side will at least draw with Group G rivals Italy at the World Cup finals next month.

The veteran Middlesbrough striker told Jutarnji List daily: 'Playing Italy sounds nice, because it is a matter of prestige but Croatia should not be under any pressure for this game.

'Italy have a superb keeper and forwards, but their midfield is made up mostly of defensive players and I am convinced we can easily draw against them.'

The two teams clash at the Kashima Stadium on June 8, but 32-year-old Boksic said Croatia, who finished third at the 1998 World Cup in France, should focus on their other two group rivals.

'What matters more are the games against Ecuador and especially the first one against Mexico,' he said. 'Beating Mexico will mean we have practically done the job.'

Despite being a regular starter in the national team, Boksic will be making his first appearance at a major international tournament after injuries sidelined him from Euro 1996 and France two years later.

'I have achieved everything with clubs, the only thing I lack is at least one good performance at the World Cup,' he said.

How confident are the Italians in beating MIGHTY CROATIA?


I have a proposal for any GREASY WOP out there that wants to take me up on it.

The plan (bet) is:

I am so confident that I GURANTEE Croatia will beat Italy in WC'02, on June.08/02. So the bet is, if Croatia by some fluke chance lose to Italy, I will never ever go on TTP again. Sorta like I've been sent out in exsile, banished, got the idea. Is there's any Wopper out there willing to do the same when Croatian beats Italy? Once again same idea, you would be exsiled from TTP if when Croatia beats Italy. Also, just to make sure the loser doesn't ever try to come back on TTP under a different user name or something, maybe we can get the web masters of TTP, if possible, to completely block the user on the CPU they use. This might not seem such a big deal, but a lot of us really enjoy going on TTP, to rant and rave. So, how confident are the Wops?

It's important to have players in good physical condition, but I think that the Italian side will seek the assistance of a psychiatrist to help try and stop the deep fear inside them at the thought of facing Croatia on June 8. The Italian's have had emotional troubles with the World Cup approaching.

Croatia are a very tough opponent and finding a cure of the distraught Italian's will be no easy solution. Well I'm not sure if a team psychiatrist will be enough for the Azzurri to help with their troubles but, they need to do something as the Italian team has never looked so poor mentally for a World Cup Finals.

What about simply the loser has to wear the Jersey of the winning side at the next TTP Event....

Too much is being built on this game....It is a Qualifying game and each team will enter needing a tie to advance.
