Another reason why I'm getting sick of soccer. total joke. Dude said it best, the guy probably just stepped up to coach his kid. and now he's been suspended.

Well that's it, isn't it?

Seriously...old guy's poll...how many of us really get into coaching because it is what we want to do? Some, but very few.

Personally, I got into it because I wouldn't have some hockey guy try and teach my kid the game. No way. And you know what? In my first couple of years coaching, there was exactly two of us (me and Henjob) out of about 18 coaches that actually played the game teaching U-10 players at Surrey United how to play. I kid you not. The rest were parents who'd stepped up, many hockey guys.

Again, God bless them...they step up. Can't criticize that. Immagine where our game would be without those useless twats?

Same thing w/ my daughter this year. I tried not to get involved. I knew I couldn't commit the time and energy required...but it took one practice of watching some poor dad flounder before I decided to suck-it-up. Lucky for me, I have an amazing team mom and assistant coach that just allow me to show up and coach. No politics or managing.

Do I love coaching? Hell yes. Get a great deal of satisfaction watching a 7 year old girl run down the pitch, trying to throw in a step-over and using skills, instead of just kicking it. It's great. But, would I be involved if my daughter wasn't? No. I have other interests, primarily doing other things my kids want to do- like skiing.

And fcuking hell...I know I should have been at Whistler last week, bombing through the trees with powder up to my balls, Mini Dude kicking my ass, leading the way. Instead I was at NAP. Don't get me wrong- I love seeing the girls progress...but there are other things I want to do, too.

So, when a governing body decides to intervene like this w/ out looking at the issue w/ common sense, it just makes me shake my head.

how about this : would him sitting out and not coaching the kids game count as his one game served. I think not but something to think about.

Good point, and no shite. Double standard at play here.

Hey Whistle Blower, just an FYI...next time I need to sit a game for too many Yellows, or a Red for kicking Fat Monkey, I am just going to serve my time by sitting out my U-8 Girls games. Cool?

Same thing happened this September to a guy on our team. The suspension wasn't as long, but he received a couple of games while coaching his kids (issued by a kid ref) that impacted his first two games in Masters. wtf?

I'm sorry, but if you got suspended while coaching kids, undoubtedly for something verbal and inappropriate, then you should not be able to play men's soccer.

Hell, you should be kicked out of coaching.

Dude, you should be suspended for leading your parents into thinking that because you spent time playing soccer that you actually knew something about the game.:D

Monkey,

I can only claim to know as much as those that brought me up in the game. Coaches, etc.

One in particular was dibolical. What 18 year old kid walks around w/ a Porn moustache?

Dude - great post - why don't you put it in a letter and send it to the VISL and ask for a response ... also on a lighter note - could you come and coach our over 35 team - we need a stepover drill - last week someone fell over the beer cooler :)

the guy who is suspended got his third yellow for a hand ball infraction. he coaches u-16 boys and to this day no one has stepped up to take the team.he is a good guy and a good coach, his team is devastated.i totally disagree that he shouldn't be able to coach.i also have three different coaching jobs that would be lost if the same happens to me.unfortunately some of the yellows we receive are not warrented and could cause us to be suspended unjustly.there should be certain guidelines for the severity of the suspension.

As some of these coaches are not "soccer guys", the shocking part is some of these refs giving out cards aren't soccer guys either.

Why don't all the coaches not show up one weekend in protest... just give the kids and parents warning ... maybe they will see the light
