Should been 4,5,6...but in the long run...does it matter....Mister IDIDN'TSEETHEHANDBALLINFRONTOFMYFACE referee. I'd wager that if the team in black had had that happen to them Nordic would've had a PK. N'ough said.
Scotty, I did see that play and here's what I have to say about it.
My wife became a ref a couple of years ago and guess what? It turns out I didn't know the rules very well although I thought I did. The hand ball rule is one which I didn't know. Here it is from FIFA's web site:
A direct free kick is also awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following four offences:
-tackles an opponent to gain possession of the ball, making contact with the opponent before touching the ball
-holds an opponent
-spits at an opponent
-handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within his own penalty area).
So, although I did see the ball strike his arm, I don't think he did it on purpose so therefore no foul occurred.
But I did notice one thing watching you guys play and maybe you could get Sir M to help you out with it. You need to put out an APB on the old firemen "mixer" it was nowhere to be seen on Sunday.
I see that the teams all competed very close to their respective Excellent Power Rankings form last week, with only one (8th rank Nanaimo who lost 2-0 to #4 Uvic Alum on Saturday) exception. Number 10 Vancouver Fire, then, are through to the quarters, along with last week's top 7.
Word is afoot that BC Soccer is considering using the Power Rankings as a basis for seedings next year, we shall have to see about that one .
In any event, without further procrastination, or delay for that matter, here is week three of:
SIR M'S EXCELLENT POWER RANKINGS
1. SFC Rangers. A tidy 4-0 dispatching of debutantes #11 Wickham F.C. keeps the holders at the top. A stern test coming up this weekend.
2. Columbus F.C. The VMSL Cup holders move up one spot after their emphatic 5-nil revenge against perennial Island powers #11 Vic Athletic. Next up are VMSL champs West Van F.C.
3. Surrey United. Not often a team slips a spot after a 6-0 win. Howes still out for one more game, and an interesting battle against VFF ahead.
4. UVic Alumni Dragons. A workmanlike dispatching of #8 Nanaimo F.C. keeps the UVic-ers firmly in fourth. SMEPR Island correspondent Georgie (one word, like Pele, Raul...or Cher) rates these fellows very highly, especially after a little Ganga.
5. ICSF Inter.Yet another clean sheet, albeit against a reportedly weaker side, keeps the VMSL runners-up in 5th.
6. Vancouver Firefighters. A 2-0 win against #14 Nordic, in a game where the result never looked in doubt, moves the black warhorses up 4 spots...
(Yet another "Actual" Conversation from Ambleside a couple weeks back during the all white clad WVFC and VFF in the all black with the yellow trim game)...
Bro: "Come on guys there's 4 white guys marking one black guy!!"
Frank F: "Missed the sensitivity training at the firehall Clark?"
7. West Van F.C. This side could have moved up after taking a halftime 3-0 lead in last week's 4-2 victory over #9 Delta, a team without 5 starters!! (Just goes to show how strong the FVSL is). But some coaching errors and a last couple minutes let up drops them one spot.
8. WFC Westside. WFC Gaffer Peter was guilty of the same sin as Sir M last week, and they let #13 Coveside back in it in the end. They get a chance to make a significant move this weekend as they once again face perennial rivals #5 ICSF Inter.
Some Excellent games on tap this weekend. Next ranking will be down to The Final Four.
I see that Peter. I hope the field is better than Adanac and longer. I think at Adanac the eighteen yard boxes are about fifteen!! And to think it's the provincials...
Surrey FC Rangers over UVIC...just because they are the defending champs
Surrey United over Firefighters in a close one...
Columbus over West Van...Columbus playing well in the second half of the season...sir m's team playing too much hold'em of late and they are ranked 6th in the power rankings...
Inter over WFC Westside in another close game to call....
Surrey Rangers vs Uvic A - Rangers in a close one. One goal should decide it.
Surrey U vs Van Firemen - I am picking some what of an upset here with the Big Bad Firemen taking a very close physical match. I heard the Firemen have a great game plan!
Columbus vs West Van - Two great teams who can dismantle any other team on any given day. This really is the match of the week and is to close to call. I will go with West Van because Sir M seems to have his team very focused right now.
Inter vs Westside. Sorry Peter but i am taking a very quick Inter team in this one.
This really should be a great weekend of Masters Football.
Good luck boys, hopefully we see a few of you out at Newton on Saturday.
Nobody needs to apologise to us, I kind of like the underdog role. The boys have promised to do some doggies this week on their own time to prep for Inter (very quick?) so I'm going to go with the folllowing:
Rangers vs Uvic - Uvic will win this game.Rangers are due for a loss.
Surrey vs Firemen - Surrey is a way better team. Fireman to slow and old to keep up.
Columbus vs Westvan - Columbus is on a role. Westvan has no goalie and with all the guys Columbus has to put the ball in the net they are in trouble. Sir M is Dave or Brad in net for you guys
Inter vs Westside - I will pick Westside only if they score first. Inter can't score and if they do it is a cheap, grinding, deflected goal and then put 10 guys on defence. Without Rob this team is bunk.
