The Canadian women's soccer team lost to Sweden 2-1 Tuesday at the Beijing Games, but clinched a spot in the quarter-finals before it even took to the field.

Lotta Schelin scored for Sweden in the 19th minute, and added a second goal early in the second half. Melissa Tancredi replied for Canada in the 62nd minute.

Despite the loss, Canada advanced to the next round thanks to a 1-0 German victory over North Korea in an earlier Group F game.

On to the Quarters.

Please post on topic. If you want to post about a different game, start a new thread.

It really is a simple concept.

With the loss, Canada now gets the USA in the quarterfinals

If you thought the game against China was bad to watch, don't bother with this one. An absolute pisstaking by the only team interested in playing football. I hope Pellerud enjoys his last game as Head Coach in the quarterfinals as he really looked thrilled today leaning against the dugout the entire match. Quality third substitution with ten minutes to go, down a goal, let's swap defender for defender and not throw anyone else forward. The ONLY positive from this game was that there are a couple of crackers on team Sweden.

Subbing out Sinclair prior to the D for D sub was a head scratcher too, no offense to Jodi R who challenged hard. Media says its to rest her. Yah, right.

I guess the converse is if they had come back to tie or even win, it would have meant Germany instead of US - since they could not have enough goal differential to overcome China for first.
