York United FC can confirm the signing of midfielder Trivine Esprit to a U SPORTS contract.

The Ontario Tech alum, who was drafted by the club at the end of 2022, is well-versed in the Canadian Premier League having made 11 appearances for The Nine Stripes last term.

His debut came in the memorable 2-1 home win over Atletico Ottawa in June of last year, stepping off the bench for the final few minutes as the hosts held on for a superb victory.

Esprit's flexibility ensured plenty of minutes for the remainder of the campaign, with him dropping into a right-back role frequently as Head Coach Martin Nash battled various injuries and suspensions.

Throughout the summer, Esprit was a key figure within the group and made 10 successive appearances for the side, including three starts.

The Scarborough, ON native was a key part of the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and accumulated additional League1 Ontario experience with Unionville Milliken SC and Simcoe County Rovers FC.

"Trivine has already contributed plenty to the squad so we're delighted to get him back," Nash says. "He's got a terrific attitude and he's great to have around the group. It was impressive the way he slotted in to the side last season when we were up against it with injuries and suspensions. He carried the weight and responsibility really well and delivered for us. And we all look forward to watching him grow even more in 2024."
