The Halifax Wanderers Football Club has signed Canadian defender Colin Gander to a U SPORTS developmental contract. Gander was selected 11th overall by the Wanderers in the 2022 CPL-U SPORTS Draft from the University of Guelph. “Colin had a chance to join us in Halifax in training camp and impressed during our pre-season matches in Ontario,” Wanderers Sporting Director Matt Fegan said. The 21-year-old from Kitchener, ON joins the Wanderers after on-field success with two different teams in Guelph. Gander was a member of the League1 Ontario 2021 champions Guelph United F.C. and captured an OUA title with The University of Guelph. Gander’s soccer career also includes time at the Toronto FC academy and a season in the NCAA with Missouri State University. “He gives us a different option at left-back with his ball delivery,” Fegan said. “His crossing is a real strength of his and he’s naturally left-footed, which was an area we wanted to improve going into 2022.” Gander will join the Wanderers on the trip to Ontario ahead of the club’s season opener on April 7 against York United F.C.
