Well, the season has barely started, and there are already grumblings that Villeneuve may be out at Sauber...
TSN.ca said:David Coulthard, a longtime personal friend of Jacques Villeneuve, says the former world champion could be out of the sport by the end of next month if things don't improve for him.
"Jacques is having a difficult time so far this season at Sauber," Coulthard writes in his column for the Scottish newspaper The Daily Record. "Two races in and already the media are questioning if he will keep his seat. That cannot help things."
"I know he is capable of great things but unless we see a marked improvement by Imola it wouldn't surprise me to see him walk away or be encouraged to do so.
Villeneuve has struggled to come to grips with Sauber's new C24, which is believed to be lacking in downforce. However, he has been consistently outperformed by teammate Felipe Massa in each of the first two races of the season.
After being openly critical of Villeneuve's performance in the season opening event in Australia, owner Peter Sauber was much more reserved in his comments following Malaysia.
"Our car lacks downforce, but when we have more that will help Jacques a lot to understand the car better, and that will help his confidence," he tells Autosport magazine. "Asking whether he is safe at the team is not the point * it's not something I'm going to talk about."
Prior to the Malaysian Grand Prix, stories had begun to circulate that Sauber had inquired about the availability of BAR-Honda test driver Anthony Davidson.
