Interesting .....

How the fcuk did 3 teams from the UK get put in the same group ??? ......

One word: Blatter  - utter tosspot.

Also funny how the Czech's and Dutch were drawn in the same group - fcuk, they'll be hating each other's guts by the time qualifying starts :D

Don't fancy England's trip to Belfast though ...... that should be a real fun time for the lads

Ze Germans .....

The eight group winners and two best runners-up reach the finals, the other six second-placed teams go into play-offs for a place in Germany 2006.

Germany, as hosts, qualify automatically

How can England complain? That is the EASIEST group of all of them. BTW, Windsor Park is in an area where Union Jacks are prominent. You won't see many Tricolors there. Northern Ireland should be playing the Metro League. I think they have played about 42 games now, without scoring a goal, a record that we(Club Ireland) couldn't even beat. Congrats to the English for making the 2006 World Cup. Fcukers. Ireland should be able to stroll past France, forcing the French to be the second team in the group.

How're the kebabs in Belfast ??

Captain,

On the football pitch, it's true ....... England should 'stroll' (if I can use that as a term for England  ) past Northern Ireland but let me ask you this ....... wouldn't the English team coming to Windsor Park bring out all the headcases and militants ?? Didn't Neil Lennon receive death threats before a game a year ago prompting him to quit ??

You'd know better than I but I still thought there was a fairly large pro-IRA contingent at Northern Ireland matches .....

Cheers, Walks

i watched armenia and n.ireland in september at Windsor Park. The stadium wasnt even full but it seemed intimidating for the Armenians ... .... the Irish fans were pounding away ..... they will definitly be out in full song/banter against England

England should should have a walk through on the park as stated before, but i bet there will be some more problems with fans...

Belarus might have us worried but even the thought of having to face Moldova is down right scary. A trip to the San Siro will seem like a holiday after having to play at Stadionul Republican Chisinau.

Walks, no chance. The death threats were made by Protestant paramilitairies, mainly because he is Catholic and plays for Celtic. You would see VERY few republicans at the Norn' Iron matches because the majority of them would support Ireland. Things have changed a little over the last few years, but one would not wear a tricolor or anything green and white to Windsor Park. Getting through the 'Village' would be a chore if you did.......

Anyways, Ireland will not qualify for the next World Cup. Cheers.

Vinny,

Of course I would love them to qualify but we have to be realistic. We can't compete with the French and we couldn't even beat Switzerland at home during the Euro qualifying. Unless Ireland manages to 'find' a few more quality Irishmen, we will finish 3rd or 4th in the group. Once again, I hope I'm terribly wrong but Ireland doesn't have a good enough midfield at this point in time.....Duff and Keane are obviously solid but other than that, we're talking about fringe Premiership/Div.1 players.....:(

Captain you underestimate your team too much......they were going thru changes if I remember at the begining of Euro......new coach, new system by the time they gelled they fell behind the 8 ball........you are telling me that Switzerland in terms of quality have a better team than Ireland........I don't think so.......your team will finish second behind the French unless they somehow drop points again to teams like the Swiss or the Israelis........heck who knows maybe even the French might choke.......heck the Irish have a better chance than my Greeks do look at our group.....we got lucky to finish first in the Euro 2004 qualifying but now they have three quality teams to face in Turkey, Denmark and Ukraine........plus they face the Albanians who always give them a tough game in Tirana........anyways should be good games good luck to the Irish and even the Scots I hope they can win out their group so I don't have to hear the Italians saying we are the best :D

England......

Ryan Giggs will be clear to face England in both of Wales' 2006 World Cup qualifiers after a fixtures meeting on Tuesday. He will be joined by ten other taffs.

Wales had been especially keen to avoid England, Austria, Poland or anyone else they might lose to in the opening two games of Group Six as Giggs will be suspended for them.

After several hours "in negotiation", they got their wish and they kick off away to Azerbaijan and then face Northern Ireland at home.

When ex-Englishman Giggs is available again Wales will then face England away on October 9, with the return fixture in September 2005.

England had also been keen to avoid both Wales or Northern Ireland in any final group game due to potential security concerns.

At one stage, that was still a possibility as the six countries could not agree and were facing a random draw of games.

However, agreement was finally reached and England will kick off away to Austria on September 4, followed by a trip to Poland four days later.

That is hardly an easy start for Sven-Goran Eriksson's side but at least their final two group games are at home against the same opponents.

England will meanwhile face Northern Ireland at home on March 26, 2005 and travel to Belfast on September 7 next year.

The two ties between Wales and Northern Ireland take place in Cardiff on September 8, 2004 and in Belfast on October 8, 2005.

So Burnsie, fancy crashing chez Fastshow & Beanbag Towers on or about the 26th of March, 2005? Could be a good do even if the football is rubbish.

You and Beano might have lifted your post-Christmas drinking embargoes by then too......
