This is going to be an interesting year. Maybe.

These team names kill me. Begging for a simpler time.

Anyways, who are the favourites this year?

So, is anyone going to talk about the Tigers/Rhinos divorce? What an up and down relationship from the old days where rhinos reported Tigers for use of ineligible players multiple times, causing deduction of points and fines - to becoming cash pals and now divorced. It's amazing what little bit of oil and cash can do these days. After spending multiple weeks in international court, Derek gets to keep the keys to the Jag, but the car is towed back to Saudi. Rhinos, meanwhile, get to keep Blaze and some of the kids for weekend games. Also, MAFC staff jumped on doctor Tiger Mohammad’s cash cab for happy ending rides. Farivar Torabi was seen oiled up driving his 15,000-liter tanker into coal harbour . Wonder how shitty MAFC players feel after they worked so hard to get the team into Premier to now having to go on the bench or to the div 2 B team, while watching Tigers players get paid. Lesson to be learned here is to find your tanker and happy ending cash cabs. If you hang in there long enough, good things can happen.

Game day! I think...

Friday
VUFC vs White Eagles @ 7:30 UBC
Croats vs Peg (when does the name drop?) @ 8:10 Burnaby Lake
Sapperton vs Trollups @ 8:45 Newton
BB5 vs Rinos @ 8:45 Newton

Saturday
Westside vs Chinter @ 4:00 Point Grey
Tigers vs Norvan @ 5:10 Burnaby Lake

With the weather out there as is now, should be able to limit crowds to under 10 per venue :)

You could see that coming even during last season. Thorabi was playing for Rinos Tigers in Premier while, at the same time, was the coach of Division 1 team Metro Athletic (hopefully links provided below will work properly):

I do believe that it is about time that the league does something about all those changes of the "ownership" that happen every single year.

Does it really make any sense to anybody that FASA (last season), out of nowhere, never competed before in VMSL, "gets" a Premier spot from Guilford, then ends up being relegated from Premier to Division 1 and, as it looks like, folds completely (so they were a one year in existence) then Shaheen "gets" FASA's (or Guildford's?) spot in Division 1 (so Shaheen ends up being "promoted" from Division 2 anyway although they did not win Division 2) while Shaheen's Division 2 spot ends up being given to Faly Academy?

How many similar cases we have basically every year?

What happened to the rule that any new team starts from the bottom (Division 3) and builds their way up? How do other teams/clubs, those that follow the rules, feel about all this?

The league, it certainly seems that way, is not doing anything to stop/prevent things like this. I guess somebody will say that it is not possible to prevent such things but it certainly is if there is a will to stop such behaviour. That certainly could be a topic for another discussion.

Anyway, if it is true that some teams pay significant amount of money to their players why then those teams do not apply to join CPL? Pay a league fee, get a spot, pay players officially and legally, pay taxes, and finally leave amateur leagues to amateur players to play in.

Unfortunately, its numerous teams - at least 5 in Prem pay players, many in div 1 .. and believe it or not, in div 2. Agreed, it is a total joke and I have no idea how managers get off on paying players in an amateur league.

The fact that Tigers have received all the negative attention is pretty hilarious when they simply continued a tradition long practiced by other prem teams. They just spent more money than the rest.

Who cares? There's something wrong when money is exchanged in the shadows and you have to lie to the organizations that oversee our league. Where is the honour in winning when you have to blatantly lie and cheat to do it?

This site used to be cool when you could go on it and see results of actual matches played with banter about those matches.

Bit out of practice, but here's the goals and some highlights from Croatia v Pegasus.

Pegasus will feel hard done by in this one. Were the far better team in the second half but couldn't take their chances. They nearly tied it up late on when the Croatia keeper let the ball slip through his fingers, but missed videoing that chance,

What sort of impact are the “kick ins” having? Are teams just doing quick little pass ins or using a lot them as set pieces?

I was at NAP Friday night and it was all quick little tap ins with the flow of the game not impacted at all IMHO.

Same old same old.

Like West Van leaving in their Audi's and BMW's with cocky little smug grins on their faces as usual. ;)
