VUFC 1 - 3 EDC

We came to the game with a depleted bench and had 2 healthy subs. We started our 4th string keeper who played well before leaving the game around the 25th minute mark after getting hammered by an EDC forward. Enter our 5th string keeper who also did a decent job under the circumstances!

EDC have a huge roster, probably 6 or more subs on the day. After a fairly even first half, they really made us work in the second. A combination of our tired legs and their midfielders getting more confidence on the ball made for a very long half for us.

A newer ref officiated, he was ok. No real complaints here.

Goals:
20' - A hard low cross from the left the keeper could only parry in to my path for an easy tap in. 1-0 VUFC
30' - EDC's midfield meastro goes down easy in the box. PK given and scored.
45' + - Corner kick is headed home in first half injury time. That one hurt!!
55' - Another EDC penalty is given and again buried.

On to Westvan who always seem to bring the best out of us. ;)

This was a real tough one to swallow on the day. Small amount of legal contact in the box and he lets the legs go dead and falls. The ref has played the game before and it's his job to know that move when he sees it. It's so obvious when guys do it.

Regardless, this was not why we lost the game. As @machel said, we had a bare bones crew and no keeper and just ran out of gas.

Results this weekend were West Van over Romania, Croatia over PCOV, Westside and Columbus tied, and EDC over VUFC as detailed above.

And Metro Ford won the Western Canadians, again. Congrats to Metro Ford.

This week:

PCOV vs Flying Horses. PCOV takes the Horses lightly, and lose at home, 3-2.
VUFC vs West Van. VUFC don't take West Van lightly, 4-1 though.
Romania vs Westside. Another visitors win, this one 3-1.
Columbus vs Croatia. 2-2 draw.

Metro Ford/EDC postponed.

Got owned by WestVan last night to the tune of 5- bagel.
Poor performance by us all around. Their goalie had a night off basically as we hardly threatened. An unstoppable free kick was the highlight of their goals. Fetts up top and Nash in the middle are quality additions to their squad this year.

PCOV-West Van FH 2-0

We (WVFH) showed up with 12 players missing at least 5 starters, PCOV showed up with 10. We had our worst first half of the season but still a 50/50 first half, with PCOV up 1-0 at the end of the first 45. Similar second half but with a bit more energy from our part. We really missing a goal scorer (Tim get your a$$ out!). Well deserved win PCOV!

Looks early on this season that Horses may have a real struggle at this level. I thought VUFC were a lot better against them than they were last night against the other WV squad; they will have to lift things as well going forward. Several quality goals last night, I don't thing Sixv had a chance on any of them. Dailly did score a cracker free kick about 25 minutes in, but then had to come off with an injury about 5 minutes later unfortunately. His replacement Sharky almost scored a blinder on a knuckler from about 40 yards out that their big keeper did well to get a mitt on about 5 minutes after g that. VUFC looks like a tight group of friends, they had a big BBQ going after the game. Looks like Westside had an easy time of it last night against Romania, and Columbus did well in beating Croatia.

Good report @Sir M. Big difference in quality between the two teams but WV came out and totally outworked us in the first 20-30 minutes, got a 3-0 lead and put it on coast. We are very thin right now for quality bodies and have some important players out of the lineup but that doesn't explain getting totally outworked though. West Van look very good and will be near the top this year for sure.

One early game Wednesday this week, so here are week 5's preditctions, full slate for a change this week:

Westside vs VUFC. A truly West Side story this one, held in East Van. 3-1 Westside.
West Van vs Metro Ford. Will home advantage for WV and a bit too much of this from MF
CMF_PCE_O35_Western_Cdn_Champs_2017.jpg
make the difference or will MF knock WV down from the undefeated at Ambleside? Lots of goals in this one...MOTW

EDC vs PCOV. An intriguing latin match. Or not. 2-2 draw.
Romania vs Columbus. Columbus in another high-scoring affair. 4-2 .
Flying Horses vs Croatia. Things do not get any easier for the Horses this week. 3-1 Croatia.

Looks like the Westside vs VUFC and Flying Horses vs Croatia games have vanished from this week's schedule...

Can't comment on the Horses/Croatia game but the league changed our game vs Westside from their home Sunday to the Wednesday night. We couldn't field a team with that change so asked for it to be moved. Thankfully they obliged.

In the games this weekend where teams played, EDC made an early statement in defeating PCOV 4-1, Romania surprised Columbus in a 2-2 draw, and West Van and Metro Ford tied 0-0 in a fast, well-played game.

All ten teams theoretically should be back in action this week.

Week 6 is a huge week on the calender. All teams playing on Friday night and all important games. West Van have shot out of the blocks and have a bit of a cushion on the defending champs who have a couple games in hand though. Chile is also hot on West Van's tail also with a game in hand. We could have a close race this year up at the top which is nice!

This week is just massive for the bottom teams with only a few points separating each other. We(VUFC) shite the bed against Romania last year and shipped them 9 of their 17 points. We'll have to do better this year to avoid the drop and try to cement our place in this division. Romania will be looking to get all the points as well so we'll expect a war on Friday.

Horses have only played 3 games and haven't gotten in to the rhythm of the division just yet and it could spell disaster against a team who know how to score goals in Columbus.

PCOV have struggled so far for their standards and their once stingy defence has been leaking goals. Could they too be in a battle for survival at years end? Or will experience get the job done at the end of the day?

Croatia has also started the season well and it'll be interesting to see if they can keep up this pace for the whole season. I'm not sure if they've picked up any new players but from last year I recall they had a short bench which may catch up to them.

Masters A cup champs Westside are within striking distance of the top as well but have a difficult match up vs MetroFord in clash of League Champion vs Cup Champion.

Predictions:
Croatia - EDC FC Burnaby
PCOV - West Van FC
Metro Ford - Westside FC
VUFC - FC Romania
Columbus FC - Flying Horses

Croatia 1 - EDC FC Burnaby 0

Zucko scored a nice free kick half way into the first half. EDC had their chances but we were able to lump most of the balls over the fence to secure the points.
