Does this really surprise anyone? That's just the luck of Vancouver. I'm betting all of you were hoping for a number 1 pick but knew deep down we get the short end of the stick.

And it's not even close to a deep draft so we'll get an average player at best, and with out drafting record it'll be an average defenseman who we'll see in 2-3 years as a pick for the future.

I believe that makes it 48 years of never having #1 pick overall

Yup, they even got screwed that year.

In 1970, two new franchises were awarded in the NHL — the Buffalo Sabres and the Vancouver Canucks. It was a foregone conclusion Perreault would be the first selection in the 1970 Entry Draft. The two new teams took part in a roulette wheel spin to determine who would get the first pick. Ultimately, the Canucks were allocated numbers 1-10 on the wheel, while the Sabres had 11-20. When league president Clarence Campbell spun the wheel, he initially thought the pointer landed on 1 and started to congratulate the Vancouver delegation. However, Sabres coach/general manager Punch Imlach asked Campbell to check again. As it turned out, the pointer was on 11.

Linden insisted the Canucks will still select "a great player that's going to contribute to the foundation of this team for many years," adding a reminder that Vancouver has six picks in the top 120.

Kind of funny I was worried we may win a few of those last games and that would of put us in New Jerseys spot. You know we wouldn't of gotten first overall if we were there but still funny looking back. Weak draft anyway we can wait for our McDavid.

The system was brought in to stop teams like the 2016 Av's from tanking.

Luck of the draw....

Shitty but at least the draft is weak...

The odds of your pick should align with where you finished in the standings. The Canucks finished 2nd last but had the best odds of picking 4th. Go figure...

That's Fine and all but optics are still skewed. The draft lottery should be tiered into three groups. Does anyone actually understand how the NHL lottery works? Probably not and there is a reason for that. They don't want you to understand it.

15th place to 11th place
10th place to 6th place
5th place to first place

15th can go no higher then 11th. 11th can do no better then where they finished and have the best odds to stay way there are but can do no worse then 15th. Same goes from 6th to 10th. Only teams 1 through 5 can land the first pick.

For a league prides it self on parity ....................................................................

Put your money on a Dallas vs Philly Stanley cup final next year.

Problem is I don't think the Av's or anybody purposely tanked for this draft, they and we are just bad. Now if you want to talk Leaf's tanking for Mathews or the Sabers tanking for McDavid I see what you are talking about.

Anyway it's all about next years draft and then the next year and just repeat for the next ten years, then we will be good.

Tryamkin signed a 3 year deal in the KHL apparently...

I've been seeing some talk of flipping a deal with the Bolts as apparently they are willing to deal Drouin - I believe the Nucks have the assets to pull this off, I hope they are seriously looking at it!

Yeah I would think it would have to be Tanev and either this years first or a top prospect. Maybe Vitanen.
