What a joke - getting back probably the worst defenceman to ever put on a Nuckleheads uni.:(

Are these guys on crack or what? Nucks need to sign Baron or somebody who plays his style of at-home defence; they've got too many offensively-minded defence types as it is. Jovo only finishes his checks when he feels like it, and Ohlund is too fragile to play a whole season that style. Burke, you putz, do something positive for this team:mad:

Your right Stew, Baron did an excellent impression of a barrel in the playoffs, we need more guys like that. Slegr at 800K or Baron for 1M+....I'll take Slegr.

The plan is obvious isn't it. Let go the Group 3 free agents, do not sign any over priced Group 3 free agents to have the money to sign Bertuzzi.

Keep your core guys and build arould that...usually with duct tape but hey whatever.

I'm holding off my season ticket purchase until Josef Beranek and Roman Oksiuta are brought back into the fold.

Just heard that Baron has agreed to terms with the St. Louis Blues, terms not announced.

Can't say I am thrilled with the latest happenings around Canuck land but I will accept it if we are able to sign Bert to a deal that locks him up with the likes of Jovo and Naslund for a few more years.

They wont miss Baron

he was old and slow. I also seem to remember him skating away from a few fights last year. So he's a puss too. Good Riddance. Get some young buck for cheap who will mix it up a bit.

Yes they did, he was a free agent after the Sens refused to offer him a qualifying offer....................

Is he another "Swede"? Not that I mind I guess but just seems like we are becoming the home for the entire National team, with the exception of two of the best.

Fantastic two-way hockey sense separates Arvedson from the every-day winger. The Ottawa Senators' fourth choice (119th overall) in the 1997 Entry Draft quickly found a spot on the Senators roster, playing 61 games in 1997. He made an impact just as quickly, finishing as a runner-up for the Selke Trophy in 1998, when he finished a remarkable plus-33. Arvedson possesses a scoring touch as well, as he notched four game-winning goals for the Senators in 1999-2000. Arvedson spent no time in the minors in his career. Before cracking a NHL lineup, he played six seasons in Sweden.

As long as we don't play Belarus we should be OK, however Salo plays for the Oil, I have a feeling that Hedburg will be winning the starting spot from Clouts.
Swedish Meatballs are on special at GM Place this year, I may have to bring the Sweden WC 94 kit out of retirment.

I still believe the next uniform the Canucks pull out at GM Place(Ikea Place by then) will be yellow and Gold with the Three Kroner on the front. The Swedish national anthem will be played and Tomas Gradin will drop the ceremoinaL faceoff puck. Our Farm team will no longer be in Manitoba but will be Djurgarden of the Swedish Elite league . My Sweden Ohlund jersey will defintely be out this year.

Funny you brought that up, the Nucks are going to wear the Old Blue, Green, and White Jersey with the Hockey Stick on the front for 4 games this upcoming season. It will be for a home game vs. the Habs and an away game vs. the Habs. Plus a home and away game vs. St. Lou. Should be cool to see the old 70's kit out on the ice. All the teams in the league are doing it this year for a few games, great way to sell more $150 dollar jerseys to the kids.

To bad the seats at GM Place weren't the same price as the seats at Ikea Place. To expensive for hos.

Canucks sign veteran forward Arvedson

TSN.ca Staff

9/10/2003

The Vancouver Canucks have signed forward Magnus Arvedsson to a one-year $1.5 million US contract plus bonuses, TSN has learned.

Arvedson, 31, had 16 goals, 21 assists and a plus-13 rating in 80 games last season while earning $1.65 million US with the Ottawa Senators.

The Senators allowed Arvedson to walk away on July 1 as an unrestricted free agent.

The Senators held discussions with Arvedson's agent Don Meehan, but made it clear that the club only wanted Arvedson back if he was willing to accept less money than what he made last year.

Arvedson had his best season in 1998-99, when he scored 21 goals and 26 assists in 80 games and was among the nominations for the Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward.

Just heard that Mike Keane is coming.................same type of deal as Zalapski had a few years back...........

Time will tell but I like it for his experience and leadership, the stuff we lost when Klatt left!

You bet

At the end of the NHL.com's article on the Arvedson sigining they threw in this:

Burke also announced the Canucks have invited 15-year NHL veteran Mike Keane to training camp on a tryout basis. The 36-year-old forward, who played last year with Colorado, has played 1,093 games with Montreal, Dallas, the New York Rangers, St. Louis and the Avalanche, winning three Stanley Cups along the way.

Keane is a great pick up same sort of player as Klatt. Two good pick ups by Burkie.

Zenga is getting excited for hockey season!!

Nice pickup.

Beware, all you Burke bashers (read: me). He's upgraded the depth at all three positions this off-season, and has increased the payroll to a whopping $42 mil.

Arvedson will fit in nicely, from what I understand he can play all three forward spots, and could very well rotate from spot duty on the top line, to part-time duty on the 2nd and 3rd lines. Good depth added at a time when depth is a major concern.

With the possible addition of Keane, things get dicey to see who cracks the top-12 forwards and gets in the regular rotation. I see the top-12 as:

Naslund, Morrison, Bertuzzi, Sedin, Sedin, Arvedson, Linden, Cooke, Chubarov, Ruutu, Lindgren, May. These are the guys who are under pro contracts (ie: no two-way clause).

Guys like Reid, Keane, King, Langdon, Kesler and Fedorov will be in tough to see much action. It would be tough to leave Reid out in the cold after the run he had late last season, but I don't see him bumping any of the aforementioned players, unless injuries hit.

The positive is that Burkie has major competition for the "fringe" spots, impressive considering he lost two regular forwards in Klatt and Letowski, and a top-6 defenseman in Baron.

New players...

Sorry Canuck bandwagoners but I just don't see the upgrade here. You will be lucky to get 40 points out of any of the 2nd, 3rd or 4th line players. Arvedson will NOT take any of the scoring heat off of the big 3. Come on. Still have not addressed the main problems here: Stanley Cup playoff caliber goaltending and a legitimate second line scoring threat. I am getting sick of Burkes bullying routine with players and media. Listened to Lou Lamirillo sp? on 1040 today and he runs a tight financial ship ala Burke. The big difference is he is not an a$$hole!

I do not think Arvedson is the answer to all our problems but atleast he is a quality player. His all around game makes him a good fit here. Never can have enough Sweeeeed's.:D Ilike the pick up of Keane as well but wouldn't it have made more sense to pick him up at the trading deadline last year for the playoffs.
