A few interesting results this last week, including one or two upsets as well as some furious activity at the top of the table… but enough about Rangerforever’s Thanksgiving dinner issues. It is now time for the second 2013/2014 issue of:

Sir M’s Excellent Power Rankings 2013-2014

1. Columbus FC (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 1. Columbus gave up a late lead to tie the reigning VMSL champs this last week, but still after having won the Western Canadians have enough points to remain #1 in the rankings… but by the narrowest of margins.

2. West Van FC (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 5. A couple of late goals out at Ambleside made West Van’s match vs previous #2 Croatia a thriller. An unblemished record thus far in the VMSL. Romania next.

3. Poco Castillians (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 3. The reigning VMSL Masters Premier champs scrapped their way back to tie #1 ranked Columbus, which moved them into 3rd place in VMSL. Away to PCOV next in a Match of the Week.

4. ND SC Rangers (FVSL). Last week’s ranking: 7.This team jumps up after defeating league leaders SFC Temple.

5. Croatia FC (VMSL). Last week’s ranking:2. Croatia’s loss to West Van drops them in the rankings and in the VMSL standings. Home to Shaheen next and a chance to move up.

6. PCOV (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 6. A tidy win over previous # 9 Richmond keeps this team in sixth spot. While the VMSL scheduler likes to refer to this team as PVOV, they are in fact PCOV. Currently fifth place in the VMSL. Home to Poco next.

7. SFC Temple (FVSL). Last week’s ranking: 4. Their first loss of the year, albeit with one of their best players away cavorting in Las Vegas, drops them this week.

8. Coastal FC Peace Arch (FVSL). Last week’s ranking: 8. Another win in a series of games against a team in their own club helps this team maintain their position. Currently third place in FVSL.

9. Delta Utd (FVSL). Last week’s ranking: 10. Up one after an emphatic victory on the weekend. Fourth place in FVSL.

10. Richmond FC (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 9. A 2-0 loss to PCOV drops this side a spot. This team has an outstanding goalkeeper. Currently 6th in VMSL. Home to Westside next.

11. Westside FC (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 11. This team could move up or down in the rankings, depending on the rather rare holiday Monday evening fixture tonight.

12. Romanian FC (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 13. Please see above.

13. Howe Sound FC (NSCL). Last week’s ranking: 12. The NSCL does not schedule games within a few days of statutory holidays, Hallowe’en, political prisoner exchange anniversaries, or Bar Mitzvahs.

14. Roma FC (NSCL). Last week’s ranking:14. Please see above.

15. Vancouver United Westside Rangers (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 15. This side is top of the table in VMSL Div. 1 Masters and got some help as the venerable Bombastic were held to a tie this last weekend.

16. Shaheen FC (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 19. A move up after a convincing win over Sapperton on the weekend.

17. Nordic (NSCL). Last week’s ranking: 16. Another idle NSCL side this last weekend. Usually competetive.

18. Langley United (or if not them, Langley All Blacks…or both). Last week’s ranking: not ranked. Staff are continuing to use the Rosetta Stone in an effort to translate the FVSL website, but are pretty sure that some team from Langley has at least temporarily punted South Delta FC, who join the CCB Shooting Stars in an exit from this week’s rankings with a convincing victory on the weekend.

19. Westside Originals A (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: not ranked. For the first time in recent mammory, there are three teams from the same club in these rankings. The Originals are but one point adrift of the first place WS Rangers in VMSL Division 1 Masters.

20. Sapperton Rovers (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 18. Sapp had another disappointing result this last weekend, and have yet to post a point this year. This week they are at home to Columbus…

That is it for this week. Good luck to all teams, especially to those vying for positions in the rankings.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Just a heads up...the rankings may be delayed a few days as staff have never encountered a situation where a VMSL Premier Masters team forfeits early in the season when standings, cards, scorers etc were at stake. Some evaluation and precedents will have to be examined, should they exist.

So is it just a forfeit? Or have they folded?
At first it was said that they were closing up shop, but the new rumour is Bohica never quits until it's over and that Sapp have signed 5 players from the old Metro Ford who are playing in the FVSL? Sapp only had 7 players ready to go on friday vs Columbus and that included Bohica. Heard it was a stratgety move to take the forfeit loss as it only amounted to 3 goals against

A lot of inactivity and/or parity at the top the VMSL standings this week, not unlike Sir M’s foray into the internet dating world. But enough about that, a FVSL team seems to be distinguishing itself all of a sudden, and now, it is time for this week’s edition of:

Sir M’s Excellent Power Rankings 2013-2014

1. Columbus FC (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 1. Columbus did not play this weekend as their opponent gave up.

2. ND SC Rangers (FVSL). Last week’s ranking: 4. This side moves up again due to their win over Langley All Blacks Alumni United Coastal Aldergrove Firefighters , coupled with a lot of ties in the VMSL. Top of FVSL right now.

3. West Van FC (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 2. A scoreless away tie to a lower ranked side means West Van drops points for the first time this season and drops one spot in these rankings. Home to Richmond next.

4. Poco Castillians (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 3. The reigning VMSL Masters Premier champs scrapped their way to another tie this week, this time against, as the VMSL scheduler likes to call them, PVOV.

5. Croatia FC (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 5. Croatia dismissed Shaheen on the weekend, and currently sit 3rd in VMSL Masters Premier. Away to Columbus in a SMEPR MOTW this weekend.

6. PCOV (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 6. A home tie against Poco keeps this side at # 6, and in fifth spot in the VMSL. Staff are wondering, if the league keeps referring to them as PVOV, what does the “V” stand for? Away to Westside next.

7. Coastal FC Peace Arch (FVSL). Last week’s ranking: 8. Another win, this time against South Delta by three goals, jumps these guys up one spot in the rankings.

8. SFC Temple (FVSL). Last week’s ranking: 7. Another loss of points, this time a 1-1 draw vs Delta United, drops this team one spot.

9. Delta Utd (FVSL). Last week’s ranking: 9. This side maintains its ranking after a gutty draw against an explosive SFC Temple side...especially after one of those spicy Tandoori post match BBQs.

10. Westside FC (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 11. This team is up one spot after defeating Romania and then on a short week battled to a tie against Richmond. Home to PVOV next.

11. Richmond FC (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 10. A home tie to Westside drops this team one spot. Away to West Van next.

12. Romanian FC (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 12. Romanian lost on Monday, but then held the first place VMSL WFVC to a scoreless draw at home. Away to Shaheen next.

13. Vancouver United Westside Rangers (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 15. This side is top of the table in VMSL Div. 1 Masters and pounded Bombastic on the weekend. Up against the Flying Horses next, which could be a real shootout in the VMSL Div 1 Masters MOTW.

14. Roma FC (NSCL). Last week’s ranking: 14. Roma had an easy win on the weekend, albeit against a weaker not ranked side. However, they are currently in first place in the NSCL.

15. Westside Originals A (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 19. This team sits in second place in VMSL Masters Division 1 after defeating Westside Rino’s Fury Bulldogs, which should not be confused with Vancouver United Westside Rangers, or Westside Masters “A”. Or any of those unholy Peace Arch consortiums for that matter.

16. Howe Sound FC (NSCL). Last week’s ranking: 13. This NSCL side drops after their tie on the weekend.

17. Nordic (NSCL). Last week’s ranking: 17. This NSCL side maintains its ranking after a tie against a higher ranked side on the weekend.

18. Shaheen FC (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: 16. A move down after a 3-0 loss. Home to Romania next and a chance to move up in what could be a weird game.

19. West Van FC Flying Horses (VMSL). Last week’s ranking: not ranked. The reigning VMSL Div 1 Champs had a strong showing on the weekend, with a 4-0 away win against Alemania. Huge home game this Saturday against whichever of the Westside teams is currently in first place in a MOTW.

20. Langley United (or if not them, Langley All Blacks…or both). Last week’s ranking: 18. A loss to first place ND SC Rangers drops this side two spots. They however maintain a spot in the top 20 of the rankings as they did play.

So that is it for this week. Staff are looking forward to some spirited matches this coming weekend.

Good luck to all teams.

Sir M

" if the league keeps referring to them as PVOV, what does the “V” stand for?

I believe the V stands for Vinho in english this is translated into wine. Which of course people in the past have acused this club of lots of whining!!:banghead:

Howe Sound has there chance to make up for their tie last week as they battle Roma FC this weekend in the NSCL. I myself am looking forward to watching the Columbus vs Croatia game this weekend.:)

Well, there has been a bit of delay here since the latest rankings. Without making many excuses, the loss of staff member Rob Ford, along with this weird new South Fraser Perimiter Road phenomena which has totally confused staff trying to rate FVSL games, things have become complicated. So I apologize for the hiatus (for VISL viewers, read this as I apologize for the "break"). In any event, and enough about that; now it is time for the 2013 Christmas edition of:

Sir M’s Excellent Power Rankings 2013-2014

They are as follows:

1. Croatia FC (VMSL). Last ranking (2). This upstart side are first place in VMSL Masters Premier, and riding one of the best goaltenders in the province at any level, has raised its status from pedestrian to a real favourite to win the BCs should said keeper be of age.

2. Columbus FC (VMSL). Last ranking (1). The 2013 BC and Western Canadian champs are currently second place VMSL, and drop after a recent loss to Croatia. Always a contender for top spot in the rankings, and should be there all year.

3. Poco Castillians (VMSL). Last ranking (3). The reigning VMSL Masters Premier champs are enjoying a good start to the 2013-2014 season. They, however, are finding their sophomore season in the VMSL a bit more challenging than their debut campaign. Very dangerous side though. Currently fifth place in VMSL.

4. West Van FC (VMSL). Last ranking (5). The 2011 BC and Western Canadian champs have had a bumpy ride after a hot start, not disimilar to Sir M's marriage. Currently fourth place in VMSL.

5. ND SC Rangers (FVSL). Last ranking (7). This team is currently bossing the FVSL Masters Premier Division. Staff aspire to cross three bridges, a tunnel and a perimeter road to watch this team in 2014. Up and comers...

6. Westside FC (VMSL). Last ranking (11). Traditionally a slow starter, the 2012 BC and Western Canadian champs have turned things around with some big wins against heavyweight teams, and can beat anyone on any given day. Another team with an excellent goalkeeper. Currently sixth place in VMSL.

7. PCOV (VMSL). Last ranking (6). After a torrid start, this team has of late cooled off. Staff are reporting that a mid season transfer of an instrumental midfielder may have a lot to do with this, and there is a character question. Currently third place in VMSL.

8. Coastal FC Peace Arch (FVSL). Last ranking (8). Another in a series of FVSL teams who have names referencing several clubs, this is a side that no one should take lightly. Currently second place in FVSL.

9. SFC Temple (FVSL). Last ranking (4). This team has now dropped to third place in the FVSL. Staff are eagerly anticipating circumnavigating the South Fraser Perimeter Road to get to the bottom of this development.

10. Delta Utd (FVSL). Last ranking (10). Delta United is always a consideration in the rankings, and this year is no different. Currently fourth place in FVSL at the break, they will battle to get into the BCs. And if they do, staff report they will be tough to beat.

11. Romanian FC (VMSL). Last ranking (13). This side has lots of firepower going forward and have achieved some good results this year. Seventh place in VMSL at the break.

12. Richmond FC (VMSL). Last ranking (9). It is rumoured, albeit unconfirmed, that this is another team that may have lost an eccentric, yet top, player on a mid season transfer. Currently eight place in VMSL, and probably well away from the relegation zone.

13. Nordic (NSCL). Last ranking (16). Staff predict that this team will make the BCs. And staff also predict that SCDMTC blonde will not be celibate in 2014. First place NSCL at the break.

14. Roma FC (NSCL). Last ranking (14). A well coached NSCL team who are vying for the NSCL title and a BCs spot. Currently third place in NCSL.

15. South Delta FC (FVSL). Last ranking (20). South Delta has made the BCs at some point in previous years, and have made some progess in that direction, but need to pick things up after the break.

16. Howe Sound FC (NSCL). Last ranking (12). This is a good team that should battle for a spot in the BCs in North Van. They feature a former Hec Creighton trophy winner on the attack. Currently second place NSCL.

17. Westside FC Originals "A" (VMSL). Last ranking (not ranked). Without any fanfare or any predictions how they will fare in a higher division, this side has quietly taken a firm grip on the VMSL Masters Division One race.

18. Surrey United (FVSL). Last ranking (not ranked). Welcome back SU. First place Div One FVSL Masters.

19. Shaheen FC (VMSL). Last ranking (19). This team should get relegated staff predict.

20. Sapperton Rovers (VMSL). Last ranking (18). Sapp are in a spot of bother due to lack of numbers.

So there it is. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of the Sir M's Excellent Power Rankings followers out there.

And Merry Christmas back to you and all of the FVSLers RF. I believe it comes a day early out there due to the time zone thing.
