After a rather lengthy hiatus, but just in time for the New Year, staff have finally got their act together. As opposed to the venerable Bonefish's rankings, the Power Rankings do not take into consideration the VISL teams until immediately before the Provincial Championships due to budget restraints. Enough clarification though, here we go with the maiden edition of the ever controversial:
Sir M's Excellent Power Rankings 2011-2012
1. Westside FC A (VMSL). This side has beaten VMSL heavy weights Columbus FC and West Van FC thus far this year and currently sit in first place in the VMSL.
2. Port Coquitlam Castillians (FVSL). As defending FVSL champions, the mighty Castillians have upgraded their roster this year with a couple of notable signings, employing an innovative strategy in which the coach's daughter married a two time VMSL MVP in order to facilitate that addition. First place in the FVSL.
3. Columbus FC (VMSL). Last year's VMSL Champions have added several talented people who must shave several times a day. Currently second in VMSL, but are a legitimate Provincials threat.
4. West Van FC (VMSL). The reigning BC and Western Canadian champions are slowly coming out of a post Western Canadians hangover, and are slowly getting healthy. Traditionally strong after Christmas.
5. Delta United (FVSL). After having a bit of a disappointing season last year, DU is back in 2011-2012, and holding second place in the FVSL. Looking good so far to be back in the BCs this year.
6. Portuguese Club of Vancouver Sporting (VMSL). PCOV is much improved this year. They are now legitimate BC qualification contenders. Quick fact: this side holds the distinction of having the lowest eyebrow to player ratio in Masters Football.
7. Metro Ford Wolves (VMSL). MF gets it done when they need to and should qualify for the BCs.
8. Sapperton Rovers (VMSL). Sapperton are enigmatic; further, they are hard to predict week to week. A good side that should make the BCs.
9. North Delta SC Rangers (FVSL). This side, staff report, is a big, strong and competetive team. Hopefully they will be back in the BCs this year, and they could do it.
10. Peace Arch Dragons (FVSL). The Dragons are as strong of a team as any in BC if they get everyone out, but that is the key, as it does not happen as often as it should. BC finalists in 2011, they will be battling for a berth in 2012.
11. Peace Arch United (FVSL). Staff state that it will be interesting to see what players are cup-tied to which team in this club come January 15. Staff report that if the right players ultimately reside with this team, it could be a force.
12. CV United (NSCL). This side, a united side of several NS clubs, sits tied atop of the NSCL, and should qualify for the BCS.
13. Howe Sound FC (NSCL). Howe Sound is tied for top spot in the NSCL and also should qualify.
14. South Delta FC (FVSL). SDFC is currently in third spot in the FVSL, and will be in a fight for a BCs spot with the Peace Arch teams et al.
15. Surrey FC Temple United (FVSL). Another united side which has several very talented players. Are they deep enough to qualify for the BCs?
16. Richmond FC (VMSL). Richmond may struggle to qualify for the BCs, but have a good shot at staying in Premier this year.
17. 22nd Avenue Lions (VMSL). The new promoted Lions look as if they have a good chance to stay in Premier this year.
18. West Van FC Flying Horses (VMSL Div 2). Staff members JAGS and Eagles report that this team is the real deal. Sir M notes that this side has not lost in lower division or cup play since its inception in 2010. Not eligible for the BCs.
19. Surrey United (VMSL). This storied VMSL/FVSL Masters team has really struggled this year with numbers. Can they make a late run to stay up?
20. Romanian FC (VMSL Div 1). Romanians are dominating Division 1, and could be a cup final upset qualifier for the BCs.
Enjoy the holidays everyone.
